fication for developers of FDT (Field Device Tool) components for fu nction trol and data access wi th in a clien t/server arch i tecture Th e specification is a resu lt of an an alysis and desig n process to develop stan dard in terfaces to facilitate the developmen t of servers and clien ts by m u ltiple vendors th at n eed to in teroperate seam lessl y Wi th th e in tegration of fi eldbu sses in to trol systems, there are a few other tasks which need to be performed I n addition to fieldbu s- and device-specific tools, there is a n eed to in tegrate these tools into h ig her-level system-wide pl ann in g or eng ineering tools I n particu lar, for u se in extensi ve and heterog eneous trol systems, typicall y in the area of the process indu stry, the u nam bi g uou s defin ition of en g ineeri ng i nterfaces that are easy to u se for al l th ose involved is of g reat i mportance A device-specific software com pon en t, called DTM (Device Type Man ager) , is su ppl ied by the field device m anu factu rer with its devi ce The DTM is i n tegrated in to eng ineerin g tools via the FDT in terfaces defined in this speci fication Th e approach to i n tegration is in g eneral
