239C Lach Tray, Ngo Quyen, Hai Phong Duties: Support consulting, translating of some administrative documents Month/Day Work content - Become familiar with the vocabulary related to translation work and support consulting - Familiarize with the employee's regulations and From January 2, 2023 to work January 9, 2023 - Learn the reality of the company, organizational structure, and functions of each department - Learn how to use company machines such as copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines - Check email - Answer and receive phone calls from customers - Translating the customer's birth certificate The difficulties and experiences 2.1 Difficulties: As for me, practical experience is the best, and internships are priceless opportunities that give undergraduate students the hands-on experience they need in the long run However, difficulties and mistakes in the internship are unavoidable, and I am no exception Really, lacking customer service skills was the biggest roadblock I had to overcome Customer service is hard Although “The customer is always right”, they may not always be easy to deal with and you can not please everyone That made me feel quite embarrassed and awkward whenever I was to get into a difficult situation as I had not been a consultant before Moreover, when I was responsible for translating documents, I had some problems with translating and localizing content I must understand the nuances of language and culture to address translation problems Besides, I was intimidated and nervous to ask my boss and co-workers too many questions because I didn’t want to admit that I didn’t understand or that I needed extra help with something In addition, I have always been kind of a perfectionist and liked to have things done my way so working with others and sharing duties was a slight change I must say It took me a couple of weeks to really feel comfortable allowing someone else to share my work but eventually, I learned it was good and that two heads were better than one 2.2 Experiences achieved Although I faced many difficulties in the internship, I also gained a lot of valuable experience in this position This internship gave me the opportunity to use my knowledge of English by translating documents, records and learning the expertise of translation I realized that my English has improved a lot through my internship Really, I have learned a lot of valuable knowledge during my internship at the center Listening - Speaking skills: During my internship, I had the opportunity to interact with foreign customers and contact them online Luckily, I can hear and understand my clients' words, and so can they Little by little, both my listening and speaking skills got better Reading – Writing skill: When assigned a text to edit or translate, I was able to read and find the main ideas of the text, edit or rewrite as requested I noticed that reading – writing skill is very important for white-collar workers; therefore, I will try my best to improve it Translation skills: I was initially exposed to work as a translator. Literal and precise translation is really necessary for this job. Even though I have tried to translate texts given as perfectly as I can, there were some errors Luckily, before I handed in my translated paper, I have revised them in time As a consequence, a useful lesson can be referred is “Before translating a text, a careful reading and choice of right word in right context are two indispensable steps that a good interpreter should not miss.” Teamwork skill: I learned the way to get on well with other people in the company, thereby developing a sustainable and successful team because I needed to work with many staff, not only customers Necessary computer skills: I also learned from electronic data sources and how to access to digital resources, web, email, remote communication, etc 10 CHAPTER 3: THE REALITY OF THE USE OF ENGLISH IN PANDA COMPANY LIMITED AND PANDA OSC Reality of using English in the company and Panda Overseas Study Centre As Overseas Study Centre, almost employees are required to understand and speak English at least a basic level Several departments like the head, deputy director, or director tend to use about 70 percent of English in writing or speaking as there are terminology and specialized language that needs to be obviously explained while not all employees can understand According to the survey, the rate of using English by the consultant department is the highest, nearly 95% as they are responsible for liaising with overseas schools on student applications and issues Thus, they have extensive experience and advanced level with IELTS 7.5 or more However, the consulting support or supporter department does not pay much attention in English, especially supporter The number surveyed in this department is only about 40 – 50 % of English usage through their work The reason for this fact is that they tend to explain Panda’s services in detail to customers who not have any knowledge of English In addition, their work is mainly customer care on enrollment and online channel, so their skills are also limited In conclusion, according to the assessment, the percentage of English usage in this organization is about 90 to 95 percent The number is relatively higher than others However, there still exists some departments that need to be improved so that they can stay on track to be the most prestigious and professional educational organization not only in qualities but also quantities Some solutions to improve the use of English in the working environment at Panda Overseas Study Centre Improving the reality of using English at Panda Education is essential to reach their target: “Become the strongest, the most prestigious and professional educational organization in the field of Overseas Study Consulting in the North of Vietnam.” 11 To increase the ability to use English for employees, the company should outline a strategy to gain their practice mastering English They can create an incentive program for bilingual staff, so everyone will want to train In this way, their understanding and communication becomes more fluid Thus, their expression is natural and customers feel better served and therefore, trust more Besides, the company also provides specialized online teaching courses – English 2Go All processes have native teachers and specialists in technical vocabulary Employees will train with native English language teachers, simulating work scenarios such as negotiations, conflict management with international clients, and more Thus, they will not only communicate successfully and confidently in the language of business but also be able to confidently pursue international opportunities Organizing activities, games with prizes is a good chance to promote the interest in English and learn from each other in the inner company Recognizing, praising, and rewarding staff who have excellent results in improving their English is also an effective way to motivate as well as stimulate their spirit of learning English In addition, the vast majority of employees in the company are young and energetic people, so this kind of activity is really a good choice for them to follow 12 CHAPTER 4: SUGGESTION FOR THE SUBJECT OF THE GRADUATION THESIS After month of internship in the position of consulting support at Panda Overseas Study Centre, I found that English plays an important role in our life Having English on our resume opens doors in the professional world and boosts our hiring potential English allows us to seek jobs and pursue opportunities, leading to better salaries and training prospects within the company Therefore, if we are not good at English, we will encounter many obstacles and run backward On the other hand, the percentage of Vietnamese people's English speaking skills especially listening skills are quite low because they often put an emphasis on grammar Although they have striven to deal with their learning listening problems, their attempts seem to be unsuccessful And I am no exception Besides, through the process of researching and surveying, most people are afraid of translating because the process is quite complex and requires many factors Undergraduate students, who have just been exposed to interpreter or translator jobs, still have a rough time Therefore, the first topic I am likely to propose is “Factors affecting translation skill of English-majored students at Thuong Mai University” Moreover, the second topic proposed is “A study on difficulties in listening skills of third-year English-majored students at Thuong Mai University” I look forward to receiving the comments and suggestions from lectures on this subject They will be good advice for me to write and complete the graduation paper better 13 CONCLUSION From nearly 15 years was founded until now, Panda Company Limited is still continuing to develop to create prestige in the belief of customers With an ambition of: “Becoming the strongest, the strongest, the most prestigious and professional educational
