Take photos and videos of students and send them to parents during each lesson - Ensuring visual aids and teaching materials are stored carefully, turning off electrical devices at the end of the lesson 2.2 The difficulties and experiences at Benative Vietnam 2.2.1 The difficulties at Benative Vietnam As a student of the English faculty, I have cultivated good knowledge to ensure the effective transmission of knowledge to students Also, it encourages me to be more meticulous, careful, and patient However, during my internship at Benative, a lack of pedagogical knowledge has been my largest challenge At first, I realized that it was very difficult to keep a stable class when there were so many students talking to each other After several reminders, the students might have been quieter, but with a childish mentality, they started working on their own in class, even walking around the classroom and not paying attention to my lecture Second, especially in the small kid class, children quickly forget the basic terms and commands they have learned just some minutes ago At such times, it is necessary to be more patient so that the child can become re-accustomed to the operation In addition, for older students, it is important to create excitement in each lesson If the lecture is theoretical and inflexible, they may quickly get bored and distracted Therefore, always having to come up with new ideas in each class is also a small difficulty for me Moreover, I was a swayed person at first when I had to remind my students to talk too much during my class time But then, I settled with different ideas and gradually became more patient and tolerant as I got used to teaching and interacting with students xvi 2.2.2 The experiences at Benative Vietnam The internship at the Benative Vietnam was a great experience that helped me better understand the professional education environment and the expectations that come with it During my internship at Benative Vietnam, I have learned many useful lessons for myself The knowledge and experiences I gained were of great benefit to me as I graduated from university Benative Kids English Center and the company's staff supported me wholeheartedly during my internship Those great challenges have left me with a lot of lessons and experience working as an English teacher For preschoolers, as a first step for the beginning of the lesson, a rhythm song or a short warm-up activity is very helpful in keeping kids in order They will be extremely interested and will interact enthusiastically with me One of the most important things is to always make gestures and express emotions clearly for children to follow This will create a habit for children and help them understand the context even without using Vietnamese Besides, I constantly have to use basic commands such as “Be quiet, please!”; “Listen!”; “Look!”; “Sit nicely”; and “Be kind" so that children can remember and follow the teacher Second, I have set some rules like "don't talk to other friends," "don't leave without permission," and "look at the teacher" and have students repeat them at the beginning of each class This really works and makes my class more stable Students are also more obedient, and they know how to ask for permission when they want to something Third, I always create games related to the lesson such as listening to pronunciation and guessing words or matching words with corresponding cards These games must be changed continuously so that students not get bored when learning new words and can use them in each context For elementary grades, I seem to need a lot of creativity The children are older than preschoolers, so they are quite obedient when I remind them The most important thing is to make them more interested in learning I often divide the class into groups so that they can develop teamwork skills and support each other to achieve common interests Moreover, creating groups makes the children more excited, and vocabulary learning becomes more effective However, sometimes xvii there are some children who refuse to study seriously and not listen to me At that time, what I need to is not yell at him in front of the class but talk to him privately during recess I will ask: "What is the problem you are having?"; "Do you feel bad today?"; and "Can you share it with me so we can solve it together?" Under such circumstances, the children are more willing to share with me I will analyze the problem and encourage them, helping them to return to the lesson with the most comfortable feeling Therefore, it is vital to understand children's psychology when teaching, and scolding and forcing are not always effective To sum up, after this internship, I felt grown-up with experience in teaching and solving problems with my students These experiences are like my own “treasure of knowledge” that is useful for my future work xviii CHAPTER 3: THE REALITY OF THE USE OF ENGLISH IN BENATIVE VIETNAM 3.1 The usage of English at work in Benative Vietnam 3.1.1 The current situation of the usage of English As it is an English language center on the upswing and is associated with many significant partners such as preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools throughout Hanoi, English is mandatory in the workplace Benative requires employees in all departments to know the basics of communicating in English All the rules and regulations of the centre are drafted in Vietnamese - English bilingual documents Employees who are teachers and instructors have to communicate entirely in English Its purpose is to create an English-only environment so that young learners are also aware of the use of English in reality In addition, in each class, Vietnamese will be limited and only whisper to each other if necessary The centre also has its own rules for the use of Vietnamese such as when students are present, receptionists must communicate entirely in English If there are students talking in Vietnamese with each other, they need to remind and teach them how to express what they want in English English is considered the main communication language in Benative Vietnam It has become the first mandatory element when becoming a link of Benative Vietnam Therefore, it is not a big barrier for employees in their work, all employees in the center can use English quite fluently 3.1.2 The advantages As it is an English instruction organization, Benative is a great environment for staff to boost their English communication skills as it is used as the primary language most of the time First of all, especially for academic staff, they have to use English in a more formal way because they often have to interact with students The flexible use of new words, and basic communication sentence structure in each given context is essential They are able to use quite proficiently all four skills which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills Moreover, the company has a significant number of foreign teachers, so employees have the opportunity to xix
