Week Period UNIT 13: In the maths class Lesson I Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - correctly pronounce the name of the letter N/n (/en/); - correctly pronounce the sound of the letter N/n (/n/) in isolation and in the words eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen - Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 3, act + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act + Problem-solving and creative competence: act *Language focus: - Sound /en/ Vocabulary: eleven, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can pronounce the name of the letter N/n (/n/) in the words eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen + Well-completed ss: can recognize the words in different situations when listening II Materials: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD -Students’: books, crayons III Method: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response -Natural Approach -3Ps III Teaching activities: Activity 1: Warm up - Sing a song Activity 2: -Content 1.Listen and repeat a Teaching the letter N/n - Procedure: + Have Ss point to the letter N/n explain that the name of the letter N/n is different to its sound /N/ +Encourage Ss to repeat several times b.Set the scence: - Procedure: +Have pupils look at the picture and describe it Draw pupils’ attention to the letter N/n, the word next to the gate and other words and the color of the letter N/n +Ask pupils to point to the letter N/n Have them listen and repeat the sound of the N/n + Show the picture and elicit the answer of who the characters are +Tell pupils to point to the word eleven Ask them to listen and repeat the word + Repeat the same procedure with the, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter N/n and eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen and repeat until they feel confident Correct pronunciation, if necessary +Play the recording again and call some pupils to say the letter N/n and the words eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen in front of the class Activity 3: -Content 2: Point and say - Procedure: +Have pupils look at the picture again, saying Look at the picture on Page , please! Ask them to describe the picture again Draw their attention to the letter N/n +Get them to point to the letter N/n and say it, saying Point to the letter N/n and say, please! +Let them point to the eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen.! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Repeat the same procedure with thirteen, fourteen and fifteen Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups + Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of the class Activity 4: -Fun cornner : play a game “Number race” - Procedure: + Divide class into two groups + Ask Ss of two groups play game + Congratulate the winner Consolidation: - Content: Review the letter N/n and words (eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen) - Procedure: + Ask Ss to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident + Follow the same procedure with the other lines Show pupils how to chant and clap their hands + Play the recording all the way through Ask pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus, saying Listen and chant, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult +Select some pupils to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands The rest of the class may sing the chant along and clap their hands Activity 3: -Content 4: Listen and tick: - Procedure: +Have pupils look at the first two pictures and say what they can see Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes Check comprehension +Play the recording of the first sentence for pupils to listen + Encourage some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class + Ask pupils to say what they have heard and ticked + Ask pupils to share their idea with their partner + Call some to go to the board and write their answers Activity 4: -Content 5: Look and write: - Procedure: + Have pupils look at the letter N (upper case) and n (lower case) Write the upper case N and the lower case n on the board + Write the upper case N and the lower case n in broken lines on the board + Tell pupils to trace the letter N/n , saying Now use your pencil to trace the letter N/n + Check the results of pupils’ tracing and give feedback Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap their answers + Ask some pupils to show what they have done Praise them if they have done well Consolidation: - Content: Review the words and the chant + words: eleven, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen + chant - Procedure: + Ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? It’s twelve.” Have pupils point to the pictures, listen to the recording and repeat the sentence + Then play the recording again for them to repeat individually and in chorus Correct pronunciation + Play the recording several times again for pupils to listen and repeat the sentence + Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence “What number is it? It’s twelve.” in front of the class Correct their pronunciation + Have pupils work in pairs, good Ss will help the below average and average Ss Activity 3: -Content 7: Let’s talk - Procedure: +Point to each character in the picture & elicit the words to fill the gaps + Have Ss repeat the text in the bubbles a few times + Repeat the procedure with the second picture + Do choral & individual repetition + Have Ss practice in pairs Check as a class + Ss practice more with their friends, using their own words + Get Ss to repeat the text a few times + Call a few pairs to act out the structures in front of the class Activity 4: -Content 8: Let’s sing - Procedure : +Have pupils read the lyrics to familiarize themselves with the first verse of the song +Play the recording several times for pupils to repeat line after line to make sure that they can sing the verse correctly +Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their attention to the pronunciation, the stress and the melody of the song + Let pupils practice singing the song Help them sing the song sentence by sentence first Then help them to sing the whole song + Ask some pupils to sing the song individually Consolidation: - Content: Review the structures and the song - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson?
