Week Period Unit 11: AT THE BUS STOP Lesson I Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + correctly pronounce the name of the letter U / u + correctly pronounce the name of the letter U/u and the words sun, truck, bus, running + recognize the words in different situations when listening - Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 3, act + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act + Problem-solving and creative competence: act *Language focus: - Sound: u - Vocabulary: sun, truck, bus, running - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can pronounce the name of the letter U/u and the words sun, truck, bus, running + Well-completed ss: can recognize the words in different situations when listening II Materials: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD -Students’: books, crayons III Method: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response -Natural Approach -3Ps III Teaching activities: Activity 1: Warm up - Singing the song in Unit 10, Lesson 3, Activity - Sing a song Let’s sing Monkey, monkey That’s a monkey Mango, mango That’s a mango Mother, mother That’s my mother Activity 2: -Content 1.Listen and repeat a Teaching the letter U / u - Procedure: + Have Ss point to the letter U/u explain that the name of the letter U/u is different to its sound /u/ +Encourage Ss to repeat several times b.Set the scence: - Procedure: Have pupils look at the picture and describe it Draw pupils’ attention to the letter U/u the word next to the duck and other words next to the things and the color of the letter U/u +Ask pupils to point to the letter U/u Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter U/u + Show the picture and elicit the answer of who the characters are +Tell pupils to point to the word running Ask them to listen and repeat the word sun, truck, bus, running + Repeat the same procedure with the sun, truck and bus Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter U/u and and repeat until they feel confident Correct pronunciation, if necessary +Play the recording again and call some pupils to say the letter U/u and the words sun, truck, bus, running in front of the class Activity 3: -Content 2: Point and say - Procedure: +Have pupils look at the picture again, saying Look at the picture on Page 48, please! Ask them to describe the picture again Draw their attention to the letter U/u +Get them to point to the letter U/u and say it, saying Point to the letter U/u and say, please! +Let them point to the boy and say running , saying Point to the boy and say, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Repeat the same procedure with sun, truck, bus Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Ask pupils to work in pairs or in group + Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of the class Activity 4: -Fun cornner : play a game “Slap the board” - Procedure: + Divide class into two groups + Ask Ss of two groups play game + Congratulate the winner  Consolidation: - Content: Review the letter U/u and words (sun, truck, bus, running) - Procedure: + Ask Ss to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson) + Praise some Ss who are hard working/ active/ good… as well as encourage others to try more + Give feedback  Homework: - Learn by heart the words: (noodles, nuts, bananas) Week Period Unit 11: AT THE BUS STOP Lesson 2+ Wb p.34 I Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: − Chant a poem including the words sun,truck, bus and running − Listen and recognize the words − Trace the letter U in upper case and lower case complete the words b _s,tr_ck, s_n, r_nning + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 3, act + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act 2, act + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act + Problem-solving and creative competence: act *Language focus: - Phrases: - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete Ss: can recognise target words while listening + Well-completed Ss: can the hear sentence structure while listening II Materials: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD -Students’: books, crayons III Method: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response III Teaching activities: Activity 1: Warm up -Play game: Walk and talk Activity 2: -Content : Listen and chant - Procedure: + Have pupils look at the chant Ask them to pay attention to the letter U/u and the word truck + Ask pupils to listen and repeat the first line, saying Listen again and repeat, please! Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident + Follow the same procedure with the other lines Show pupils how to chant and clap their hands + Play the recording all the way through Ask pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus, saying Listen and chant, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult Activity 3: -Content 4: Listen and tick - Procedure: +Select some pupils to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands The rest of the class may sing the chant along and clap their hands +Have pupils look at the first two pictures and say what they can see Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and b Check comprehension +Play the recording of the first sentence for pupils to listen + Encourage some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class + Ask pupils to say what they have heard and ticked + Ask pupils to share their idea with their partner + Call some to go to the board and write their answers Activity 4: -Content 5: Look trace and write Procedure: + Have pupils look at the letter U (upper case) and u (lower case) Write the upper case U and the lower case u on the board + Write the upper case U and the lower case u in broken lines on the board + Tell pupils to trace the letter U/u , saying Now use your pencil to trace the letter U/u + Check the results of pupils’ tracing and give feedback Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap their answers + Ask some pupils to show what they have done Praise them if they have done well  Consolidation: - Content: Review the chant + Chant - Procedure: + Ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson) + Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good… as well as encourage others to try more + Give feedback  Homework: - Learn by heart the chant - Review the song Week Period Unit 11: AT THE BUS STOP Lesson Wb p.35,36 I Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Recognige target words and sentence structure while listening - say what each of the pupils (in the pictures) is doing, using ” ’s running.” - trace the letter U/u and complete the words b _s tr, _ck , s _n r _nning - sing a song with the structure”It’s a .” And ”The boy is .” - Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 3, act + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act + Problem-solving and creative competence: act *Language focus: - Vocabulary: - Strucrure: ” ’s running.” - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete Ss: can use the sentence structures ” ’s running.” + Well-completed Ss: can use the sentence structures ” ’s running.” Replaces some phrases they’ve studied II Materials: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD -Students’: books, crayons III Method: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response -3Ps III Teaching activities: Activity 1: Sing a song Activity 2: -Content 6: Listen and repeat He is running She is running - Procedure: Show the picture and elicit the names of the characters - Explain what happens in the picture - Model, Ss repeat - Repeat the procedure with the picture - Do choral & individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking - Play the tape for Sts to listen & say along -Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence “He’s running? -Point to each character in the picture & elicit the structure “ He’s running” & the words to fill the gaps - Have Ss repeat the text in the bubbles a few times - Repeat the procedure with the second picture - Do choral & individual repetition - Have Ss practice in pairs Check as a class (In pairs, good Ss will help the below average and average Ss.) - Ss practice more with their friends, using their own words” Activity 3: -Content 7: Let’s talk “………………… ’s running “ - Procedure: -Point to each character in the picture & elicit the structure “ He’s running” & the words to fill the gaps - Have Ss repeat the text in the bubbles a few times - Repeat the procedure with the second picture - Do choral & individual repetition - Have Ss practice in pairs Check as a class (In pairs, good Ss will help the below average and average Ss.) - Ss practice more with their friends, using their own words” Activity 4: -Content 8: Let’s sing - Procedure: +Have pupils read the lyrics to familiarize themselves with the first verse of the song +Play the recording several times for pupils to repeat line after line to make sure that they can sing the verse correctly +Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their attention to the pronunciation, the stress and the melody of the song + Let pupils practice singing the song Help them sing the song sentence by sentence first Then help them to sing the whole song + Ask some pupils to sing the song individually  Consolidation: - Content: Review the structures and the song - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson) + Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good… as well as encourage others to try more + Give feedback  Homework: Review the structures and the song ... Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter U/u and and repeat until they feel confident Correct pronunciation, if necessary +Play the recording again and call some pupils... and say - Procedure: +Have pupils look at the picture again, saying Look at the picture on Page 48, please!
