(1)LISTENING LESSON Unit 14: THE WORLD CUP I Class description: - Number of students: 26 students, boy and 25 girls - Grade: 10th - Language Proficiency: Pre – intermediate II Time: 45 minutes III Objectives: After the lesson, Ss will be able to:  Skills: - Listen for specific information and detailed information - Talk about the famous football player: Pele’  Language: - Know more about the certain expressions and vocabulary items related to the topic “The World Cup” IV Assumed knowledge - Ss have already known some vocabulary items related to the topic - Students are familiar with working in pairs and groups V Anticipated problems - There may be time left, so the teacher should prepare an extra listening exercise VI Teaching aids: Textbook, computer, tape recorder, handout, blackboard, chalk VII Procedure (2) Name Aims/ Techniques Warm up ( 5m ) Motivate students Draw students’ attention into the lesson Engage students to related topic: “ The World Cup” - Greet the class: Technique: Give the instructions (say-do-check) and let Ss play game: Guessing game - Give instructions for the game (Say): Now, let’s me Competition game: Guessing game Teacher’s activities Students’ activities “Good morning everyone! How are you today? What’s the date today? - Listen to teacher’s instructions the - Attract students’ attention by asking: Would you - Work in groups like to play a game? - Give the answer to T - Introduce the game for the class: (Say): “We are going to play a game called guessing game tell you how to play this exciting game “I’m going to divide you guys into big groups, this side is group A, and this side is group B Here I have 12 pieces of paper with 12 pictures related to the topic “The World Cup” Two groups will take turn to play the game Each time, one member from one group comes to the board, and chooses one paper with picture Then your task is to describe (maybe use action, gestures, face expressions, body language and speak in English only) the pictures to other Ss in your group, who have to guess the words related to those pictures If your group can guess the right word, you get point for your group For each correct guess, your group gets point Remember: You have a maximum of 30 seconds for describing each picture After 30 seconds, if your group cannot guess what the word is, then the other groups get the chance to describe the picture, and get point (3) - Ss take turn to be the representative After all the pictures have been guessed, the game ends - Model for the class to help them fully understand (Do) - Then check to make sure that all Ss understand how to play by asking some questions (Check): “How many groups we have?” (two groups) “Will two groups play at the same time or take turn? (take turn) “Can you speak, or describe the picture in Vietnamese?(No) “For the next word, does the same member of each group continue to play?” (No) “Are you ready? Ok, let’s start” - Have the first Ss from one group to come to the board, chooses one picture, describe for other Ss in his/her group to guess - point for each correctly guessed word - Continue with other pictures - Get the whole class to count the points The team with more points will be the winner Suggested words: Referee Coach Ball Stadium Stand 11 Kick Cup Footballer Net Fan 10 Red card 12 Penalty - Get students to the topic: (Say) Through these World cups, many legendary football players have been discovered And today, (4) we will start the new lesson to know about one of them Before - Motivated to listen listening ( 15m ) - Provide the context for the listening - To activate students’ back ground knowledge about the topic - Teacher shows the picture of Pele - Look at the picture and answer - (Say) Now, class look at the picture Ok, you question from teacher know the man in the picture? Raise your hand - T calls on some students to give the answer - T give the correct answer to the whole class (Say) That is right He is Pele’ And now before listening to the life of Pele’, I have some new words in listening passage - To prepare students for the listening - Explanation and example PRE-TEACH VOCABULARY Ambassador “Ly Nha Ky is Vietnam’s ambassador for tourism.” So, what does “ambassador” mean?
