STORY TIME I OBJECTIVES

1 Knowledge: Revision

egg, elf, elephant, elbow fox, fish, frog, fork

glass, goat, garden, gorrila hat, hen, hippo, horse

2 Skills: - Develop Ss listening, reading, writing and speaking skill. 3 Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English. II TEACHING AIDS

1 Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, pictures, computer, speakers and projector. 2 Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

METHOD

Techniques:+ Work individually, in pairs/ groups IV PROCEDURE

1 Organization(1’)

- Greetings: T – Ss greet each other

- Checking attendance: Who’s absent today? Ss: Answer

Warm up: (5’) Bingo game

- Prepare some bingo cards with the words in unit 5-8 and hand them out to the students

- Each bingo card should have a different set of words

- Say the words or show the pictures and have the students put a tick into the pictures in their bingo card

- The winner is the first student whose card is full of tick and who show Bingo

3 New lesson:

Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content

1 Listen Read along (Track 86) (10 mins)

- (book closed) Tell the students that it’s story time

- Ask them if they like reading stories and what their favourite storybook character is - Prepare phonics cards of these word: hippo,

elf, garden, fish and frog

- Ask the students to read out the words

- Invite students to guess what they think the story is about

- Ask the students to open and look at the book

- Ask them questions about what they can see in the pictures

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the elf in picture 1) Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s an) elf!

Teacher: (pointing to the hat in picture 1) A happy hippo with a ….

Class: hat! etc

-Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the key words

-Play the CD again pausing for the students to repeat

-Ask individual students to read the story aloud

Extension (optional) ( minutes) - Ask students to close their book

- Read out a few sentences from the story and ask the students to complete them

e.g Teacher: look at my… Class: garden! etc

2 What is in the hippo’s garden? Draw lines (5 mins)

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students to draw lines from the items to the hipp’s garden

- Ask individuals to name the items Activity 1: Act Out (5 mins)

- Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words

- Invite the students to mime them (the hippo, the elf, the garden, the fish, the frog).

- Have the students come to the front of the

classroom and act out the story

- Encourage them to have fun as they perform

Activity2: Drawing (5minutes)

 Students choose their favourite animals or objects from the story, then draw and decorate it following their hobbies

-4.Consolidation:(2’) Consolidate the content of the lesson 5 Homework: (1’) Read the words on the text book

- The students look at the cards and the gestures following the cards 3 New lesson:

- Ask the students to name the pictures and the corresponding sounds

- The students circle the letters or the sound in each picture

- Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the letters, the sounds and the pictures

4 Use the code and colour the pictures (5 mins)

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students to name the items

- The students use the code to colour each item according to its initial sound

- Go around the classroom providing necessary help

5 Says the words Cross the odd one out (8 mins)

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students to name the items

- The students say the words for each picture and cross out the one that has a different initial sound

- Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

6 Listen and tick (  ) (Track 87) (5 mins)

- Explain the activity

- Have students say the names of the items - Play the CD

- The teams take it turn to send a student to the board

- As they come forward, give them a phonics card from the words they have learnt

- Students try to illustrate it by drawing the pictures so that their team can identify - If their team recognizes the word, they get

point

- The team with the most points wins

4.Consolidation: (2’) Consolidate the content of the lesson 5 Homework: (1’) Read the words on the text book
