(1)GIÁO ÁN School Instructor Student Teacher Date of preparing :Cao Nguyen High School :Nguyễn Thị Hiền Linh :Nguyễn Thị Mộc Lan : January,20th,2010 Unit 11:SOURCES OF ENERGY lesson B: speaking - Talking about advantage of energy sources - Talking about disadvantage of energy sources 1.Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Develop speaking skill - Use the required language and knowledge to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of using alternative sources of energy - Use the required language and knowledge to talk about the use of alternative sources of energy in the future Teaching aids: Text book, pictures, handouts Procedure: Lop11.com (2) Time 5’ Teacher’s activities I.Warm up: PLAYING GAME : - Divides the class into teams: - Each team deputes students to go to the board to play game - Tells students the rule of game: students of each group will take the pieces of paper on which the result is written Then, each team will try to paste the result next to the relevant picture as fast as possible The team with the quickest and the correct answer will be the winner - Checks the answers with the whole class Students’ activities - students in each group go to the board to play game - Try to exactly and quickly  The answer:  > wind energy  > water energy  > solar energy  > geothermal heat energy - Introduces the topic of the lesson (37’) II.Pre-speaking 1.Task 1: The following statements list some  > fossil fuels energy advantages and disadvantages of various sources 12’ - Listen to teacher of energy Read and tick ()the appropriate box A (for the advantages) or D (for the disadvantages), then compare the results with a partner’s - Reads task - Asks a students to translate it into Vietnamese Lop11.com (3) - Explains in Vietnamese again to make sure that students can understand the requirement of task clearly - Gives some new words - Asks students to find the meaning of the new words:  Reactor (n): give the meaning directly  Radiation(n): give the meaning directly  Hydroelectricity (n): give the meaning directly - Instructs students to read the new words - Asks students to discuss in group of - Distributes the handouts to each group - Gets students to the task in the handouts as quickly as they can The team with the quickest and the correct answer will be the winner - Translate task into Vietnamese: câu bên liệt kê ưu điểm và nh ược điểm các nguồn lượng khác Hãy đọc và đánh dấu () vào cột thích hợp A( ưu điểm) và B (nhược điểm) Sau đó so sánh kết với bạn - Try to guess the meaning of the new words:  Reactor (n): lò phản ứng hạt nhân  Radiation(n): xạ  Hydroelectricity (n): thuỷ điện - Listen and repeat after teacher -Asks each of member of the teams to explain their answer to the whole class (translate) - Work in group of - try to the handout: fossil fuels will be exhausted within a relatively short time geothermal heat is available only in a few places in the world if the wind doesn’t blow, there no wind energy water power provides energy without pollution - Gives feedback to students Lop11.com A D … … … … … … … … (4)  The answers: A a nuclear reactor … … releases radiation which is dangerous to the environment Solar energy is not … … plentiful and unlimited but also clean and safe it is expensive to build … … a dam for hydroelectricity D        - Answer and explain the reason why they choose it as the answer 15’ 2.Task 2: Work in pairs Talk with your friends about the advantages and disadvantages of using each alternative sources of energy, using the suggestions from task - Reads task - Asks a students to translate it into Vietnamese - Explains in Vietnamese again to make sure that students can understand the requirement of task well “Làm việc theo cặp Hãy tạo nên đoạn đối thoại ngắn nói tiện lợi và bất lợi việc sử dụng nguồn lượng thay thế, sử dụng gợi ý bài 1.” - Uses many methods to explain the meaning of some new words in task  Renewable (adj): give the meaning directly # non-renewable  Exhausted (adj): give an example in Vietnamese  Device (n): =equipment  Abundant (adj)=plentiful - Instructs students to read - Call a pair of student to read the dialogue on page 128 and correct them if necessary Lop11.com - Translate the requirement into Vietnamese: Làm việc theo cặp Hãy tạo nên đoạn đối thoại ngắn nói tiện lợi và bất lợi việc sử dụng nguồn lượng thay thế, sử dụng gợi ý bài - Listen to teacher - Try to guess the meaning of the new words:  Renewable (adj): có thể thay # không thể thay  Exhausted (adj): cạn kiệt  Device (n): thiết bị, phương thức  Abundant (adj): nhiều, chan chứa - Listen and repeat after teacher - Take notes on their notebooks - A pair of student perform the dialogue on page 128 (5) - Introduces to students some useful structures to ask for their opinions and to give their opinions:  What you think about…?  What is your opinion about…?  What is your feeling about….?  What is your point of view about…?  How you feel about…?  Do you have any opinions about…? - Reminds students of the way to express our opinion in unit 10: I think/ believe/ feel… in my point of view… in my opinion,… as far as I’m concerned… - Asks students to work in pairs and task - After minutes, calls some pairs to go to the board for presenting their dialogue - Try to remember the structures of expressing opinion in unit 10 - Take notes on their notebooks - Work in pairs and task - Some pairs go to the board to present their dialogue - Checks and gives the feedback to the class  Feedback: A:I think/believe that geothermal heat can be an alternative source of energy B: why you think/ believe so? A: because our major source of energy is running out why the geothermal heat is available B: I know it is also clean and safe to the environment However, it is only possible in a few places in the word perform the dialogue 10’ 3.Task 3: Work in group Express your belief on the increasing use of alternative sources in the future, using the ideas from task - Reads task - Asks a students to translate it into Vietnamese - Explains in Vietnamese again to sure that students can understand the requirement of task Lop11.com - A student translate task into Vietnamese: làm việc theo nhóm hãy diễn đạt niềm tin em việc sử dụng các nguồn lượng thay gia tăng tương lai, sử dụng các ý tưởng bài - Work in group of Then, try to answer (6) clearly the questions - Asks students to work in group of and discuss following questions: a Do you think solar energy/water power/ wind power/ geothermal energy/ nuclear power will be the alternative sources in the future? b Why you think so? - After minutes, each person take turn to be the interviewer and talk about their belief According to the ideas in task - Goes around to check and help - Gets some students to perform their answers - Checks the answers with the whole class - give the answers  suggestion: I think water power will be an alternative sources of energy in the future Because, the water power is clean and safe - Listen and take notes III.Wrap up - Summaries the main point of the lesson  homework: Asks students to learn the lesson and prepare for listening lesson Giáo viên hướng dẫn: (duyệt và kí tên) Giáo sinh thực tập: Nguyễn Thị Hiền Linh Nguyễn Thị Mộc Lan Lop11.com (7)
