(1)Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 113 : Preparation date : 30 /3/2008 Unit14 : Lesson : Space Conquest –Reading (cont) I Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to skim for general ideas - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan for specific details II Lexical items : - architect - propose - complex - domed structure - surface - excursion - vast - frontier III Structures : -Moon buses may transport guests on low gravity excursion IV Teaching aids: - textbook - picture / drawings - chalk - handouts V Techniques : - Skill – based ( reading, speaking) VI Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard WarmChecking Vocabulary: “Rub out and up & lead- remember” in - rub out the words and leave the explanations on the board (7’) - point at each explanation and have SS speak out the word - again, point at any explanation ( not in the order written on the board) and have SS to call Transition: to understand more clearly about Period 113 : Unit :14 the text, today we’ll learn the comprehension Space Conquest – reading - write down on the board: (cont) Prereading (10’) Summarize the main ideas of p1 and p2 - call on a St to summarize the text which they learnt last time - comment and correct them out the word 1.Brainstorming -Ask SS the following question to elicit vocabulary about the topic: ‘What you know about space exploration?’ -Tell SS to write down words in the mind map People Equipment Yuri Gagarin Space Spacesuit Exploration Country Achievement USA Other spacewalk NASA Checking General Knowledge ( task a, p 192) -Read the question in task a and ask SS to Lop6.net Materials photocopies Chalk and board Chalk and board (2) choose the best answers to each question - Check with the whole class while reading (20’) Postreading (10’) Activity 1: Questions and answers (task b, p 193 ) -Tell SS to read the text again and find the answers to the questions - Ask Ss to work with a partner, ask and answer the questions -Call on pairs to ask and answer them and check with the whole class Activity 2: Which Section? Which information? -Put SS into pairs and give out handouts of pieces of information from the passage -Ask SS read the text and answer the questions by writing the section which mentions the piece of information in the space provided -Tell SS to compare answers in small groups and then go over the answers with the class Expected answers: 1.B 2.A 3.B 4.C 5.A 6.B 7.C 8.B Discussion -Arrange SS to work in small groups of or - Ask them discuss the following questions: a If affordable, would you like to take a space trip?
