By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Read and say the three Yywordscorrectly

Recognize and say an extra Yy word correctly Language focus:

Vocabulary: Yo-yo, yellow, yacht

Sight words: I, have, a, it, is, too, like, my, and 2 Skill: listening, speaking ,reading , writing 3.Attitude: to teach ps : Yo-yo, yellow, yacht II Teaching aids:

1 Teacher: - Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

2 Student: i-Learn My Phonics Grade 2, Pupil’s book – p.54- 55 III Method:

- TPA, PPP IV.Procedures: 1 Organization: - Greeting

2 Warm up (5’)

Divide the class into2 teams with the same numbers of students in each team The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher whispers a word/words/ a simple sentence to them

The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind him/her and so on

The last students say the word/words/sentence aloud The team has the correct answer is the winner

Play the song from Unit (Track 78), the students listen and sing along 3.New lesson 30’

Explain the activity

Ask the students to find and colour the Yy letters

Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

Ask the student to name the item

Allow them tocolour the rest letters with other colours

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the y sound Say the y words (Track 79)(8mins)

Show the students the yogurt phonics card Point to it and say: /j/ - yogurt Ask them to repeat

Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt Encourage the students to the same

Say the letter The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can) Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat the word

Point to the picture and have students name them

Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the /j/ sound Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

Activity 1: Craftwork 5’

Ask the students to take out their notebooks Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter Yand the picture of the item in their notebooks

Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture The first three students who finish will present their letters and pictures to the class

Activity 2: Practice writing 5’ Ask a student to come to the board Say a word from the lesson and tell the students to write the word on the board Ask the rest of the class for correction Repeat with as many students as necessary

Activity: Memory Master 5’

Put up the phonics cards on the board

Choose students to go to the board and make a line in front of the door

Choose a student to be “Memory Master” The students choose a phonics card and say the word (without touching the cards)

The “Memory Master” must hand correct phonics cards to each student

- T asks whole class to learn by heart newwords and let’s sing 5 Homelink: 1’

Have the students sing and act to the chant/ show the corresponding picture cards

3.New lesson 30’

Write on the board the capital letter Y (write slowly to demonstrate its formation)

Point to it and elicit the sound /j/

Show the formation in the air (taking care when facing to the students that the letter is formed the correct way for them)

Repeat with the small letter y

The students trace the letters in their activity books

Go around and provide any necessary help Ask the students to say the sound of the letter

27.Trace and match (page 28 – Activity Book)(8mins)

Explain the activity

First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures

Check around the classroom

Answer keys: Vv- vase Ww- window 3 Xx- ox Yy- yellow

Activity: Memory Game

Put up the phonics cards on the board and ask the students to memorize the order in which the items appear

Ask the students to close their eyes and remove the cards

Ask individual students to name the items in the correct order

Change the order of the phonics cards and repeat the activity

Divide the class into teams, A and B Ask two students from each team to come to the board

Teacher names a vocabulary item

In a limited time, the students quickly draw it

The student who finishes first wins a point for his/ her team

The team with more points wins
