UNIT 13: Zz Lesson

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to:

- Recognize and pronounce the letter Zz and its sound correctly - Understand, recognize and say the three Zz words

- Write the letter Zz 1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: zoo, zebra, zip

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: Pupil's book, CD, phonic cards. 2 Student: pupil's book, page 58-59

III METHODS: P.P.P, games, chant IV PROCEDURE:

1 Organization (1’): - Greet Ps

- Check Ps’ attendance

- Divide Ps into groups

- Stick the cards with the letters on it on the board

- Ask them to order the letters to make the meaningful words they have learnt - After minutes, the groups that write the most correct words will win the

game

- Keys: yellow, yacht, well, van, yogurt New lesson (26’):

Activity (12’):

-Write on board the letter Zz

-Say: “This is the letter /zed/ The letter /zed/ makes the /z/ sound”

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour.

-Get Ps to repeat the letter then the sound Repeat several times and check Ps’ pronunciation (letter Z /zed/ and its sound)

-Teach the words zoo, zebra and zip, using real things and the pictures Say the words aloud and have Ps repeat

-Use gestures to help Ps to understand the meanings of the three words

-Call some Ps to say the words aloud

-Check the vocabulary: get Ps to play the game slap the board, using the words yatch, zip, zebra, zoo, yellow.

Pupil’s book open:

-Point to and elicit the sound of the letter and the words /z/- zoo, /z /- zebra, /z/- zip

-Play the CD The students listen, point and repeat -The students color the letters Zz

-Go around around the class and check Activity (9’):

-Point to the zoo and say: Look! A zoo! The students repeat

-Do the same procedure for zebra and zip -Play the CD The students listen and point

-Say: Look! A zoo! Ask the students to point to the corresponding item in the picture

-Repeat with the remaining item Look! A zebra! Look! A zip on the zebra!

-Ask the students to colour the zebra and the zip -Go around the classroom and check

Activity (5’):

-Play the CD The Ps listen, follow in their books and chant

-Ask the Ps to the actions of the words when they chant

-Divide the class into groups Each group says the appropriate chant while the rest of the class claps

UNIT 13: Zz Lesson

1 OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - Recognize and say the three Zz words correctly

- Do the corresponding actions - Practice reading skills

- Sing letter Zz song 1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: zoo, zebra, zip

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: Teach Ps to have positive attitude in study. II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: pupils’ book, CD, phonic cards 2 Student: Pupil’s book – p.60

III METHODS: P.P.P IV PROCEDURE:

1 Organization (1’): - Greet Ps

- Check Ps’ attendance

- Have students listen to the chant in lesson and sing along

- Put the phonics cards on the board Name the items One at a time, ask students to corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words

E.g Teacher: (Point to the zoo phonics card) Say /z/- zoo Class: (miming the sounds of different animals) / z /- zoo! etc New lesson (25’):

Activity (14’): Lead-in:

- Tell the students to listen for words that begin with

the /z/ sound

- Ask the students to stand up when they hear words with /z/ sound and sit when they don’t hear words without /z/ sound

- Ask: Can you see the /z- zoo? Point to it

- Encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

- Play the CD Have the students listen to the story once

- Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words - Ask students work in pairs One reads while the

other checks, then they swap roles - Go around the classroom and help

Saying the Sight Words:

- Point to and say the sight words: This, is, a, in, the, look, at, funny, with

- Have pupils repeat

- Have some pupils read them aloud Activity (12’):

- Put up the zoo, zebra, zip phonics cards up on the board

- Point to the zoo and zebra phonics card and say: This is a zebra in the zoo The students repeat. - Follow the same procedure and present the rest of

the song

- Play the CD The students listen and sing along - Play the CD again The pupils sing and

corresponding actions

Sight words:

This, is, a, in, the, look, at, funny, with

5 Song.

4 Consolidation (4’): Hot cards

- Hand out a phonics card to the first student of each team/ row

- Play the song from Unit (Track 84), the first students pass the phonics cards to the next one in their team/ row When the card comes to the last student of each team/ row, pass it backward

- Pause the song, the students holding the phonics cards must name them
