Lesson

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will able to:

- consolidate the sound of the letters Ee, Ff, Gg and Hh the corresponding words - Learn and practise reading skill

II.Vocabulary: new words from unit to unit 8

III Method: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals. IV Teaching aids: Phonics cards, cd.

V Organization:

* Warm up(10’): Bingo game

Prepare some bingo cards with the words in unit 5-8 and hand them out to the students

Each bingo card should have a different set of words

Say the words or show the pictures and have the students put a tick into the pictures in their bingo card

The winner is the first student whose card is full of tick and who show Bingo

* Presentation and Practice:

1.Listen Read along (Track 86) (10 mins) (book closed) Tell the students that it’s story

time

Ask them if they like reading stories and what their favourite storybook character is

Prepare phonics cards of these word: hippo, elf, garden, fish and frog

Ask the students to read out the words

Invite students to guess what they think the story is about

Hello, Hippo! Hello, Elf!

Look at my garden! Oh, a fish!

Ask the students to open and look at the book Ask them questions about what they can see in

the pictures

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the elf in picture 1) Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s an) elf!

Teacher: (pointing to the hat in picture 1) A happy hippo with a ….

Class: hat! etc

Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the key words

Play the CD again pausing for the students to repeat

Ask individual students to read the story aloud *Production(10’):

Ask students to close their book

Read out a few sentences from the story and ask the students to complete them

e.g Teacher: look at my… Class: garden! etc

* Homework: Do exercise in the Activity book

* Warm up: “Revision”

- Ask Ss to listen the Vietnamese words and then change them into the English words immediately - Listen and check their answers

- Link to the new lesson - T checks and give feedback * Presentation and Practice:

1 What is in the hippo’s garden? Draw lines(5 mins)

Explain the activity

Ask the students to draw lines from the items to the hipp’s garden

Ask individuals to name the items Activity 1: Act Out (5 mins)

Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words

Invite the students to mime them (the hippo, the elf, the garden, the fish, the frog).

Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story

Encourage them to have fun as they perform

2 Listen and circle. - T explains this activity - T elicits the pictures

- Have Ss listen and circle the right picture

- T goes around the classroom providing any necessary help

* Production: “Bingo”

- T writes the words which Ss have learnt in the units on the board

- Ask Ss to choose any five and copy them in their notebooks

- Make sure they haven’t all chosen the same five words

- Call out one word after another as you point to it Any student who has the word can cross it off

- The winner is the first student whose card is covered and who shouts “Bingo”

* Homework:

- Do the exercise in the Activity book

2 Listen and circle.

Transcript: 1, dog 2, alligator 3, elephant 4, ball 5, elf 6, garden 7, hippo

* Production: “Bingo”
