The Daewoo Lacetti is a compact car made by the South Korean automaker GM Daewoo since 2002. The first-generation Lacetti was available as a four-door sedan, a five-door hatchback or a five-door station wagon.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.Spot welding is also known as resistance spot weldingand it is the most suitable method of welding for auto-mobiles. It has three main features: the welding can beperformed instantaneously, it exercises very little effecton the mother material, and it reduces the generation ofdistortion to the absolute minimum. However, pleaseremember to remove all paint and other impurities fromthe surface of the material you intend to weld for reliableresults 1–2. WELDING CONDITIONS.When performing spot welding, make absolutely surethat you conform to the conditions governed by the cur-rent, conductivity time, welding pressure, holding time, and shutdown time recommended for the spot welder. Please bear in mind the following points when welding :.S Plate thickness and minimum welding pitchNote : When the welding intervals are too small, this leadsto branching, making it impossible to maintain the desiredsoldering state.Plate thickness 0.6mm 0.9mm 1.2mm 1.6mmMinimum inter-vals11mm 16mm 20mm 24mmFig. 2Fig. 1 Welders NUBIRA/LACETTI WELDING AND TOOLS 3–3S Plate thickness and tip diameterPlate thickness 0.6mm 0.9mm 1.2mm 1.6mmMinimum inter-vals4.5Ø 5.0Ø 5.5Ø 6.0ØFig. 31–3. WELDING STRENGTH TEST.Even if you perform the welding in accordance with theconditions, the strength of the welded sections may fluc-tuate widely with drops in the voltage and other factors. The quality of the welding cannot be evaluated unlessthe welded sections are destroyed Provide yourself with a steel plate of the same thicknessand conduct a destruction test S If holes appear in the steel plates, this means that thewelding is standard strength.S Drive a wedge between two panels near the nugget. Ifthe welded parts do not come apart and the diameter ofthe nugget appears more than 3 mm, the welding shouldbe satisfactory.Fig. 4 3–4 WELDING AND TOOLS NUBIRA/LACETTINote : It is difficult to perform spot welding in the followingcircumstances. S When it is not possible to remove any rust or paint at-tached to the welding surfaces.S When the tip of the spot welder cannot be inserted intothe welding section.S When the welding surfaces can be seen from the outsideand welding will impair the exterior appearance In all these cases, it is recommended that the gas weld-ing method be employed. However, if it is not possibleto perform spot welding because of space restrictions, plug welding based on the arc welding method may beperformed instead. Here the welding sections must beclose together.2. GAS WELDING.Gas welding is indispensable for body repair because ofthe broad range of its applications from joining the bodypanels, cutting the materials that construct the body andapplying heat to reform panels, and also because it iseasy to get hold of the tools. However, this method requires experience.Fig. 5 NUBIRA/LACETTI WELDING AND TOOLS 3–5Note : Below is an example of how not to perform gaswelding, avoid operations like this.Fig. 63. CARBON DIOXIDE ARC WELDER(MIGARC WELDING)This welding process uses inexpensive carbon dioxideinstead of expensive inert gases as a shielding means.Consumable metal electrodes are employed. It has awide range of applications, including butt welding of thinplate, fillet welding, plug welding, and MIG spot welding. In terms of the weld strength, it is also highly stable.Fig. 7 3–6 WELDING AND TOOLS NUBIRA/LACETTI4.
