I have a lot of friends, but Tam is one of my closest friends He comes from Kim Dong District, Hung Yen province He is the person who can share all kinds of difficulties and happiness in life Not only is he helpful, but also he is intelligent He is also good at both teaching English and using computers I first met him when we were at Hai Duong teachers' training colleague Although we are living far from each other, I often contact with him by e-mail, chatting, or phone calls Sometimes, on special occasions I come along his family and

so does he We often talk to each other about our family, hobbies and work We are really good friends

Topic 2: Describe a typical holiday in your country.

In our country, there are quite lots of different holidays every year, but in my opinion, I thinkTet holiday is the most typical holiday for most Vietnamese people Though we can live or work far from our family, we still try to get together at Tet Tet holidays often occur in late January or early February It is a good chance for us to have days off and have time to visit relatives or friends for giving good luck and best wishes to each other For some people who are rich, they can go on a trip somewhere in Viet nam or in foreign countries to enjoy Tet holidays

Topic 3: Describe your favorite festival or celebration.

I have some celebrations to celebrate and some festivals to enjoy every year However, for

me, my wedding celebration is the most important one that I never forget I think it's the special celebration for not only me, but also my wife to recall the time we started our new happy life Our celebration often happens in March every year On this occasion, we often have a small party and offer gifts to each other This celebration helps us live more happily and strengthen our love

Topic 4: Describe an electric item that is important to you.

In our modern life, each item plays important and different roles However, in my view, I suppose that my laptop is the most important thing My laptop isn't too expensive, but I like

it very much Not only does it help me in my work, but also it helps me relax a lot It can store important documents and helps me to prepare for work effectively Moreover, I can read newspapers, listen to music, watch movies or send e-mails and chat with my friends by using it I think it's really a good friend of mine.

One of the most important things which I often use for my work or studies is my dictionary

It doesn't cost a lot of money, but it' really helpful I often use it to look up new words or phrases whenever I need it I think it's the most important thing that English learners must own it

I think the sticky rice cake is one of the most famous foods which most Vietnamese people clearly know and like It's called by the name "Banh Chung" by Northern people It has a square shape which is covered with green leaves and sticky rice , beans, pork, peppers, salt inside Vietnamese people like this cake because not only it's tasty, but also it is a special cake that is enjoyed at Tet holidays I like this cake, too

For all my clothes I own I like my red striped (ai) shirt most It’s not only fashionable, but also it has a special meaning My wife offered me that shirt on the occasion of my 35th birthday I often wear it when I attend weddings, parties or whenever I am in good mood I really like it

Nowadays, the transport system in our country is developing quite fast In my neighborhood,there are many popular means of transport such as: motorbikes, bicycles, taxies, buses, but buses are the most popular means of transport that people use most The main good point of this mean of transport is quite cheap and convenient, but it has bad points, too Sometimes it doesn't have enough seats to sit or room to stand Besides; we have to suffer some troubles from other passengers or the driver

I was lucky to have a good chance to visit Thailand last summer This country is in the SouthEast Asia and it's not very far from our country It only took me four hours to get there I

was really attracted by beautiful views and churches there However, the most interesting thing that made a great impression on me is Thailand food I must say that I like Thailand food very much, it's really tasty Furthermore, I also attended some cultural activities there Ithink it's a memorable journey and I hope I'll go there again one day.

My hometown is on the way of fast development It has some busy shopping streets with many kinds of different goods Near my house, there is a shopping clothes street which attracts a lot of people, especially young people They come here not only for shopping clothes, but also for relaxing I suppose that different clothes shops make our street more colorful and lively (ai) step by step

I mostly enjoy activities in an English lesson, I like the Warm up activity best Because this activity contains some funny games which make me excited and relaxed before I start my hard and long lessons In this activity, I can revise some voc’abularies, learn some more newwords or get some relaxation I suppose that we should have this interesting activity before

we start a new lesson

Of all my teachers who taught me from my primary school to university, I admire Mr

Nguyen Viet Ky best I was lucky to be his student when I attended a part time university in Hai Duong center of continuing education He comes from English faculty of Ha Noi

university of languages and international studies He is not only a well-qualified teacher who

is especially good at teaching English but also has good influence on most of his students who he has ever taught I think that he is also a good example of the people who can

overcome hard difficulties in life and be very succ’essful In a word, I do admire him very much

Topic 13: Describe your idea of an ideal house.

I suppose that houses are the most important thing for everybody For my ideal house I would like it to be a typical house which has three floors and enough kinds of rooms for all

my family members to live and enjoy Those rooms would be 4 bedrooms, one living room, one dining-room and one study room which are all furnished with enough ess’ential

furniture If I have a house like that, my life will be more ‘comfortable I will have more good conditions to take more care of my family and my work.

For all my decisions that I have ever made, I think that getting married to my lover is the most important decision in my life Why is it so important? To answer this question, I

suppose that this decision has changed my life a lot I started my new life with most happy time and have a small family to take care of I never reg’ret my decision

I have enjoyed lots of kinds of films, but the film with its name " The wave in the bottom river " written and composed by Le Luu, made a great impression on me I first watched this film about 10 years ago on Ha Noi television This film is about the life of Nui - the main character of the film He had a very difficult life after his mother died and then his father got married again He was unlucky to have a father who has no responsibility, no feelings and a cold heart for his own children This film ended with a happy ending when Nui has a small happy family I think this film not only has a good plot, but also made a unforgetable

impression on viewers Thanks to some excellent performances of Xuan Bac who played a role as Nui

Topic 16: Describe something you bought which you were not happy with.

I often satisfy with the things I bought, but the shirt that I bought last week I don't like it very much I bought that shirt in the shop near my house I was attracted by that shirt at the first look because its color was quite nice and it also fitted me However, after being washed

at the first time , that shirt became faded and now its color has changed a lot I am absolutelydisappointed with that shirt and I'm thinking about throwing it away

Music is one of my favorite hobbies Of all the singers in Viet Nam, I admire Trong Tan most I think that he is the best singer of tradition music in Viet Nam He always attracts every audience and makes them satisfied by his clear and warm voice Not only is he good at

about love ,hometown , country very well His songs really make me feel relaxed

Topic 22: Describe a place of natural beauty that you have visited.

Last summer, I was lucky to have a chance to visit Sa Pa with my colleagues It took us 10 hours by train and 1 hour by car to get there I was very surprised at the cool weather and magnificent views there Sa Pa is in Lao Cai province and it is near China It is very famous

for its cool weather in the summer and falling snow in the winter Besides, Sa Pa has some local special food which attracts a lot of tourists every year In Sa Pa , I visited some famous places such as Bac waterfall , Ham Rong moutain with some flower gardens Sa Pa made a great impression on me and may be I will never forget this trip.

I was lucky to have a good chance to vist Thailand last summer This country is in the South East Asia and it's not very far from our country It only took me four hours to get there by plane I was really attracted by beautiful views and churches there However, the most interesting thing that made a great impression on me is Thailand food I must say that I like Thailand food very much , it's really tasty Furthermore, I also attended some cultural

activities there I think it's a memorable journey and I hope I'll go there again one day

A good teacher of English should be good at all four skills : listening, speaking, reading and writing However,for me , I suppose that my speaking skill is the worst I often find it very difficult to speak English although some ideas come to my mind I don't know exactly why

my speaking skill is so bad Perhaps, I don't practise this skill often enough to speak English well Besides, my vocabularies are not rich enough to help me speak English easily I think that I should spend more time to improve my speaking skill

I can't forget the time when I was at school in the secondary school That year, my leg was broken when I rode my bike to school I felt terrible and disappointed because I couldn't go

to school by myself while my parents were very busy at work Fortunately, one of my

classmates who lives near my school volunteered to give me a lift to school everyday I am very lucky to have a good friend like him who was never afraid of difficulties to help his friend After two months later, my leg was recovered and I could do everything by myself,

so I never forget that time and my good friend

One of the most important things which I wish I would buy is a car I think it is an importantmean of transport in our modern life It is quite safe and more convenient than other means

of transports With this car, I can go to work or take my family everywhere easily and safely

I don't have to care about the bad weather (sunny or rainy ), besides it can protect me and myfamily from dangers of accidents that happen everyday

Reading books is one of my favorite hobbies, but I'm very busy and I'm afraid that I haven't read a whole book for a long time To be honest, I have no idea about one book- the title, thewriter, the content of it Recently, when I have time for reading, I often choose short funny stories for reading Because this doesn't cost me a lot of time and it also helps me relax a lot

I think reading is one of the best ways to improve our knowledge

Topic 1: The means of transport you like most.

If I have to decide which mean of transport I like most, it’ll be a car Nowadays it is reallynecessary for me and my family

 Firstly, it is safer to drive a car than to ride a motorbike because in a car there are

air bags, seat belts, car alarm, etc, that prevent us from being injured if you have an

accident Driving a car at night on a lonely road will safer than riding a motorbike

 Secondly, you never have to think about the weather (such a rain, sun, storm, and

dark at night) when you drive A car has air-conditioner which helps you to avoid gettingwet, dust… so it help to keep you healthy

 In the third place, a car is comfortable and fast You can pretty much travel

wherever you want whenever you want within your local area, without having to worryabout the departure times and delays of the public transport system

 Furthermore, you will feel comfortable and relaxed with the CD and DVD

machines on the car You can listen music and you have pleasure of driving When youare tired, you can stop the journey and rest.

 Finally, if you have just the one car between you and your family, it can be

possible to share the vehicle between all of the family members thus providing everyonewith a mode of transport at all times

Topic 2: The most useful machine in the twentieth century.

Among the most useful inventions in the last century, I find the computer the mostimportant because of these reasons:

 First, when the computer is connected to the Internet, it is a good way of learning andgetting information You can read newspapers on line and download lots of

information from the web pages Besides, you can learn online as well

 Second, computers is convenient because it helps you work faster by typing, printingdocument and storing data if you want

 Finally, computer is a good way to entertain with many kinds of games and

entertainments There are a lot of games and on line activities like forum or Facebookfor you to share ideas and information with your friends You can also listen to music

or watch movies if you like

 In short, computers are really useful and important to my life and my work

I often cook when I have free time because cooking is a joyful and relaxing activity forme

 First, cooking a good meal brings happiness to my family All the members in myfamily can gather around the table and enjoy the food I cook and talk and share thejoy with each others

 Second, cooking is my favorite hobby because I’m a woman Cooking is one way toshow my feminine character and to show my responsibility in the family

 Finally, cooking helps me reduce stress of everyday hard work and makes me relaxed.When I cook, I can forget the problems that I have and just pay attention to the

cooking Maybe, after relaxing, I feel much happier and I can solve my problem

 In conclusion, cooking is my favorite activity when I have free time.

Topic 4: The advantages of living in the countryside.

Living in the countryside is really good for your life because of these reasons:

 First, living in the country can bring you a clean environment The air is fresher andthere are lots of trees, rice fields and rivers, you can walk on the fields or along therivers to enjoy the clean and fresh air there in the early morning

 Second, living in the countryside is cheaper than in the city because people therehave lower income and don’t have the habit of spending a lot of money If you live inthe country, you can save a lot of money

 Finally, people in the country are more friendly and opener than people in the citybecause they live near each other People live together in a small village so they cantalk countryside can have festivals and you can join and fell very happy

 In conclusion, there are many benefits of living in the country

Topic 5: The disadvantages of living in the city.

Many people find it difficult and unpleasant to live in the city because of these reasons:

 First, the air in the city is getting more and polluted because the traffic is so heavy,the city roads are in bad conditions and the population is really big There are fewerand fewer trees, lakes and rivers

 Second, the cost of living is much higher than in the rural areas People have to spendmore money on food, drink, clothes and other activities like traveling and

entertainment, while the salary has not been much improved

 Finally, life in the city is more dangerous than in the countryside because of nightclubs, discotheques, casinos… City people are easily attracted by social evils such asdrinking, drug or gambling, etc So, there are more crimes because some people don’twant to work but only want money to play

 In short, living in the city has many disadvantages so people have to struggle a lot tosurvive

Topic 6: Talk about your weekend activities.

Weekend time is my favorite time in the week because I can enjoy myself and do manyrelaxing activities I like

 In the morning, after a relaxing breakfast, I often call some of my friends to ask them

to go shopping with me We spend the whole morning going shopping and then havelunch in a restaurant in the center of Hanoi

 Then, I come back home for a nap In the afternoon, I often go swimming with my

neighbor if the weather is hot In winter I go jogging in the central park instead I

usually have dinner with my family during weekend, so we can talk with each otherand share our stories After dinner, I sometime listen to music or surf the net to chatwith friends or check emails I usually do not go to bed late because I will have lots

of work on Monday

 In short, living in the city has many disadvantages so people have to struggle a lot tosurvive

People may have different hobbies such as listening to music, watching T.V, dancing.playing games or collecting things My hobby is to read books

 I enjoy reading many types of books, but my favorite is detective I like reading

stories about Sherlock Holmes of author Conan Doyle I often read books in the

evening after I finish preparing things for the next day’s work

 When I have free time, I often go to bookstores to look for new books Once a week,

I go to the city library to read there I sometimes read books on line if I cannot get

hard copies of the books I want

 Books help me relax a lot after days of hard work Thanks to books, I can broaden

my knowledge and learn new things

Topic 8: The most interesting place you have been to.

I have been to many places in Vietnam, but the most interesting place that I always

remember is Da Nang, the beautiful coastal city in Vietnam It’s wonderful to me because

of these reasons:

 First, the scenery in Da Nang is ideal for us to go sunbathing We can swim in the

blue and clear sea water or do sunbathing on the soft sand beach under the yellow

and warm sunshine The air is so fresh and pure.

 Second, the local sea food are fresh, delicious but not expensive For example,

tourists can enjoy different kinds of seafood such as crab, prawn, lobster, seashell, etc.Also, the people there are friendly, sociable and polite

 Third, there are many interesting activities to do beside playing football, tennis on thebeach, building sandcastles on the beach or watching the sunrise For example, wecan sail on a board trip to the Cu Lao Cham and watch the mountain scenery on theway Also, we may visit Ba Na Hill

 For these reasons, Da Nang has always been one of my favorite tourist attractions

Nowadays, it is very important to learn a foreign language because of these reasons:

 First, learning a foreign language, English for example, helps us learn and get

information about new things in the world There are a lot of books written in

English, French, Chinese, etc

 Second, it help us feel confident when we travel abroad We can talk very easily withpeople in other countries and learn a lot from them We can use the language to workand do business without an interpreter

 Finally, though a foreign language we learn we can learn more about the people ofthat country, we know a lot about their culture and society and customs and traditions

We can become friends of many people so our life is more interesting

 In short, when we know a foreign language we can open a new to our world Because

of the benefits of learning foreign languages, one should know at least one foreignlanguage

Topic 10: Ways to have a good health.

If you want to have good health, you should follow these pieces of advice:

 First, you should eat healthy food: lots of fruits, vegetable, fish and drink enoughwater everyday to stay healthy The Japanese eat a lot of fish so they live very long.You should eat less meat and fat food because they may cause heart diseases andincrease the cholesterol level in your blood Fruits and vegetables no only bring you

lots of vitamins and minerals but also help you have a better immune system.

 Second, you should exercise everyday by choosing a suitable sport such as jogging,tennis, swimming, yoga, etc They not only make you strong but help you relax as

well So, it helps you keep fit and stay healthy If you don’t have much time, you justneed to do morning exercises regularly

 Finally, you need to have regular health check – up If you have some problems withyour health, you should go to the doctor immediately before it gets more serious Youshould visit the doctor regularly in order to find out any diseases you may have, so

that you have a better chance to get rid of it

 In short, if you take this advice, you will have a good health

Topic 11: Talk about your favorite television program.

Among many programs and channels available on TV these days such as the current newsprograms, sport programs, entertaining programs, educational programs and movie

programs, etc, I like the program “the World of Animals” most

This program is usually shown on VTV2 everyday at 8.30 in the evening It often lastsabout 45 minutes In this program, stories of the life of many animals in the world aretold in a very lively way For example, people can watch films about monkeys, snakes,tigers, insects, birds, sea turtles, sharks etc and even the penguins and the polar bears inthe far North While watching these films, I find the everyday life activities and habits ofthese animals very interesting and full mysteries In addition, I also learn that it is veryimportant to protect these animals and their living environments because they are part ofour valuable natural world Watching this program makes me very well informed andrelaxed after a day of work

These days, people are practicing many types of sport such as swimming, running,

cycling, aerobics, tennis, table tennis, badminton, golf and football, etc My favorite sport

During my stay in Singapore, I went out every day with my father to see the beautiful andinteresting places and things in the city One day we went to the Tiger Balm Garden where I

saw several statues of people, animals and other strange creature beautifully made and kept.The sea near this garden makes this a pleasant place to visit We spent almost half of the day

Another day we visited the museum where I saw hundreds of curious things preserved forscholars and others It was indeed an education to see all those things There is so much tolearn here that every visit by any person is sure to add to his knowledge

7 An unusual opportunity I had

The scene was peaceful Then, to our surprises and honor, we saw a tiger on the other side ofthe river It was moving quietly and cautiously towards the water for a drink A hush fell upon

the jungle My father and I were now too frightened to move from there

However, as the tiger put its mouth into the river there was a sudden swirl of the waters, andbefore the tiger could rush out, it was seized by a huge crocodile The tiger's howl of pain and

anger filled me and my father with terrors Yet we waited there to see the end of the strugglebetween these two lords of the forest and the river The crocodile had the advantage from thebeginning It used all its strength to pull the tiger deeper into the water, and the tiger toofought desperately to free itself from the jaws of the merciless reptile; but the tiger soon gave

up the struggle and all was quiet again I now felt pity for the tiger which had died just toslake its thirst

Then, my father reminded me of the narrow escape that we had ourselves had If the tiger had

been on this side of the river, one of us might have died in the way the tiger did, a victim ofanimal appetite And as we were returning home, I began to think of the struggle for life andsavagery that lurks beneath peaceful scenes
