Abstract This paper examines the procedures and strategies in translating
English-Vietnamese subtitles of ten most popular films on the website kst.net.vn – one of the leading website on subtitled films on the internet The theoretical framework in this study is adopted from translation theories by Newmark (1995) and Baker (1992) Visible translation errors along with suggestions for correction are also discussed in the findings The completion of this paper provides a useful reference for people interested in translation studies and sheds light on one of the aspects of subtitle translation

The thesis is organized into 3 main parts:
Part one states the reasons for conducting research, the research questionsas well as the method of doing research as well as the scope of the study
Part two includes four chapters
Chapter one reviews works related to subtitle translation in order to show the research gap and the need to conduct this work
In chapter two, some theories related to translation (definition, translation procedures), movies, subtitles, and the framework for this study will be discussed
The third chapter deals with the the subject of the study, the context as well as data collection tools and data analysis procedures
Trang 2Chapter four presents the research results which are the strategies and procedures used by translators of kst.net.vn in rendering film subtitles At the end of the paper, translation errors are mentioned with the hope of enhancing the translation quality of those films in particular and all other films on the webs in general
Part three summarizes the main contents of the research paper – what has been done throughout the work Limitations of the research along with suggestions for further studies are also discussed
