To know how to use the simple past tense

To improve language skill through speaking

The simple past tense of ordinary verbs

1 Usage :

- It is used for actions

completed in the past

at a definite time

Ex: He phoned you 2

hours ago

The simple past tense of ordinary verbs

- It is also used for an action

whose time is not given but

which occupied a period of

time now terminated or

The simple past tense of ordinary verbs

- It is used for a past

habit.

Ex: He smoked twenty

The simple past tense of ordinary verbs

- The same form is used for all persons

- Some verbs have one vowel and end in a single consonant , this

consonant is doubled before ED.

2 Structures :

( + ) S + V (simple past ) + ( O ).

Ex :

I liked that film

She saw some lions last week

( - ) S + didn't + V (infinitive) + ( O ).

Ex :

They didn't go to school last Sunday

My friend didn't live in TN 2 years ago.
