Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : + know more about some popular celebrations in the world. + use “ though, although/ even though” to combine sentences * Teaching aids:  Postcards, tape,poster B. Content: I. Pre  reading: 1. Warm  up:  Using a wedding invitation card and asking: What is it? How do you know? What helps you know this is a wedding invitation card?  The icon.  Matching the icons with the names of the celebrations the present *Key: 1. Easter 2. Wedding 3. Birthday 4. Christmas 5. Mis  Fall Festival 6. Luna New Year 2.Pre  teach: – Passover (n) : Lễ Quá Hải (của người Do thái) (translation) – Parade (n) : cuộc diễu hành (translation) – Slavery (n) : sự nô lệ (antonym) ≠ freedom – Joyful (a) : vui vẻ (synonym )= very happy – Special (a) : đặc biệt (antonym)≠normal – Sticky rice cake (n): bánh chưng (picture) – Occur (v) : xảy ra (synonym= take place = happen) – Decorate (v) : trang trí (situation) What do we often do for our house before Tet? * Checking: Bingo 3.Pre  questions: - Set the scene: You’re going to read a text about celebrations. - Questions: a, How many celebrations are talked in the text? b, What are they? II. While  reading: 1. Answer pre-questions: a, Three celebrations are mentioned in the text. b, They are Lunar New Year, Passover, and Easter. 2.Complete the table: (Grids)*Key: Celebrations When Activities Food Country 1. Eg: a, When does Tet occur? b, What do our people do at Tet? c, What special food do they eat? d, Which country celebrate Tet? - Ask the same questions and answer about Passover ans Easter. III.Post  reading: Grammar presentation: Eg : Thu Ha is not satisfied with her preparation for Tet . She has decorated her house and made plenty of cakes. => Thu Ha is not satisfied with her preparation for Tet although she has decorated her house and made plenty of cakes. => Although Thu Ha has decorated her house and made plenty of cakes, she is not satisfied with her preparation for Tet. Form : Clause1 + even though/although/though + Clause 2 (Main clause) (clause of concession) Or : Even though/Although/Though + Clause 2, Clause 1 Use : Conjunction *Concept check: -These conjunctions are used to join two contrast clauses -Clauses of concession can be at the beginning of the sentence or after the main clause * Practice: 1. (Join the sentences): (Ex4  P.71,72: Picture + word cue drill) *Key: a. Although Mrs Thoa was tired, she helped Tuan with his homework b. Enven though Liz has an exam tomorrow, she is still watching TV now c. It rained yesterday although the weather bureau predicted the weather would be fine d.
