LESSON PLAN: SPEAKING Name of the lesson: UNIT 12: The Asian Games Speaking section Class: 11 th form Teacher in charge: Nguyen Minh Thien Instructor: Ms. Dang Thi Hong Giang Time allotted: 45 minutes Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to • Know some knowledge about the Asian Games. • Use some useful expressions to ask and give information. Lexical items: Skills: Speaking (mail skill); writing (sub-skill) Teaching aids: pictures, board, postures PROCEDURE I. Warm-up (5 mins) • T divides class into groups of 4. Each group nominates one leader. • T delivers hand-outs and lets Ss play a game. • T gives instruction: “In the hand-outs, there are 6 flags and 6 names of countries. Your duty is to match the flags with the correct countries. When you finish, your leader will write your answers on the BB. The group has all correct answers in the shortest time will be the winner.” • T checks Ss’ understanding of the instruction • Ss work in their groups to find the answers. • After Ss finish their work, T will check and give comments and feedback. • Working arrangement: Ss work in groups of 4 II. Pre-speaking stage 1. Brainstorming (2-4 mins)  In order to lead in the lesson, T lets Ss discuss questions: “How many countries have held the Asian Games? Can you name some?”  Ss work in pairs to find the answers.  After 1 or 2 mins, T calls some students to check their answers.  T gives comments and feedback.  Working arrangement: Ss work in pairs. III. While-speaking stage 1. Task 1 (15 mins)  T first orders Ss to close all their books and then asks Ss to work in pairs.  T delivers hand-outs to each pair. 2 Ss in each pair have 2 different hand- outs. And there are some useful expressions that they can use in this task: Asking for information  Could you tell me …? Giving information:  Well, let me see …  Could you tell me a bit more about…?  Would you mind telling me…?  Do you happen to know …?  Let me check …  Wait a minute; I’ll just have a look.  Oh, let me think for a moment.  T models  When Ss finish, T calls some pairs to perform their conversation.  T gives comments and feedback.  Working arrangement: Ss work in pairs 2. Task 2 (12-15 mins)  T asks Ss to work in groups of three.  T gives instruction: “In this task, your duty is to take turns to talk about the results of Vietnamese athletes at the 14th Asian Games by using the table blow” MEDALS WON BY VIETNAM (at 14th Asian Games held in Busan, Korea ) Sports Gold Medals Silver Medals Bronze Medals Bodybuilding 1 1 Billiards 1 1 Karate 2 1 Shooting 1 Wushu 1 1  T models: “In bodybuilding, the Vietnamese athletes won one gold medal and one bronze medal. In billiards, they won one gold medal and one silver medal ……  T checks Ss understanding of the instruction.  After 3-4 minutes, T calls some students to describe the table.  T gives comments and feedback.  Working arrangement: Ss work in groups of 3 IV.
