The first term of grade 11 Lesson 1 Guiding how to learn and to do English tests Class Date of preparing Date of teaching 11C1 I. Objectives: 1. Educational aim: Students know about English book in grade 11 Advanced 2. Knowledge: Student know: - How to learn English in grade 11 Advanced - How to do English tests - How to use student’s book and workbook. 3. Skill : - Reading - Speaking - Listening - Writing - Doing English tests II. Teaching aids: Student’s book, student’s workbook, dictionary, some test papers, etc. III. Procedure: Teacher s activities’ Students activities’ Warm-up :(7 minutes) - Introduce to students about the teacher - Ask students about their names and English knowledge etc. Guiding: 35 minutes 1. Guiding student’s book and workbook: * Introduce to students how to use their book and workbook * Introduce to students how to learn reading, speaking, listening, writing, language focus in their books and how to do the exercises in their books 2. Guiding English tests in grade 11: * Introduce to students about oral tests, 15 minute tests, 45 minute tests, etc. and how to do them * The tests in grade 11 include: - Reading : 25% - Listening: 25% - Writing: 25% language focus: 25% 3. Guiding other books and tape, disc, etc. Homework: 3 minutes - Ask students to prepare textbook, notebooks and the things for learning and prepare lesson Reading - Unit 1 - Listen to the teacher - Answer the teacher’s questions - Put the student’s book and workbook on the table - Listen to the teacher and look through the books - Listen to the teacher - listen to the teacher and write down the things which will be prepared at home IV: Drawing on experiences of teaching Unit 1: Friendship Lesson 2: Reading (period 2) Class Date of preparing Date of teaching 11C1 11C1 I- Aim Reading a passage about friendship. II- Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to : - Talk about an old friend who they remember and discuss the qualities of a good friend and the elements of a long lasting friendship. - Improve reading skill through True or False and sentence completion exercises. III- Teaching aids: - Textbooks, pictures or handouts. IV- Procedure Teacher's activities Students' activities * Warm-up (12’) - Have students work in groups of 3 or 4 and talk a friend who they remember well but haven’t seen a long time. - Call on some Ss to talk about their friends in front of the class. 1. Before reading (13’) - Read first and give some new words. - Ask Ss to read the new words. - Correct the mistakes of Ss’ pronunciation. 2. While reading (15’) Task A - Ask Ss to read the text and match the grade with the opinions about friendship * Wrapping: - Summarize the main points. - Homework. Task B - Ask Ss to read the text individually and check whether the statements are true (T) or False (F). - Have Ss compare their answers with a partner. - Call on some Ss to explain their answers with the information in the text. - Correct Ss’ doings. Task C - Have Ss work in pair and complete the sentences by using the words from the two texts. - Call on some Ss to write to write their answers on the board. - Check the answers in front of the whole class. 3. After reading: Discussion - Have Ss work in groups and discuss the questions. - Encourage Ss to express their ideas. - Gather idea and have fine thought on the topic. - Work in group base on the suggested questions: 1. When did you last see her or him? 2. What was he/she doing then? 3. What was he/she like? 4. Where is he/she now? Would you like to get in touch with him/her again? III-Teaching aids: handouts of useful structures. IV- Procedures Teacher's activities Students' activities * Warm-up (7 mins) - Have Ss work in groups and make a list of things they would like to know when they first met a new friend. 1. Pre- speaking: (8 mins) Task a: - Explicit the task: check the expressions that you may use to start a Multi- school: liªn trêng Look familiar: tr«ng quen quen Comment 2. While- speaking: (15 mins) Task b: - Have Ss work in pairs and complete the dialogues by using appropriate expressions in the above activities. - Call on some pairs to practise the completed dialogues in front of the class. - Make corrections. 3. Post- speaking: (10 mins) - Imagine that you are at a party in which you meet many young people that you haven't known before. II- Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : - Write a narrative of 130- 150 words about a friend basing on the given sample. III- Teaching aids : Text book, pictures, handout IV- Procedures: Teacher's activities Students' activities * Warm-up - Have Ss work in groups and give all the words describing appearance and character. - The group which has the longest list will be the winner. 1. Pre- writing (10 mins) Task a: - Introduce to narrative and descriptive writings - Explain necessary words and expressions. - Ask Ss to work in pairs and complete the passage with the words from the box. II - Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : - Identify descriptive adjectives and use them appropriately. - master the use of different verb forms. III- Teaching aids : handout of extra exercises IV- Procedures Teacher's activities Students' activities * Warm- up : Jumbled words - Write the words whose letters are in a random order on the board. All the words are adjectives to describe appearance and character. - Call 2 students to go to board and write the correct words. 1. Word study: descriptive adjectives * Give brief information about adjectives Descriptive adjectives are use to describe people, place, ect, Adjectives often come: + before a noun : a beautiful girl + After "to be" or linking verbs such as seem, look, : She looks tired - Ask Ss to do task a - Guide Ss to do task b - Tell Ss to work individually - Give explanation of some difficult adjectives: Persistent(a) : liªn tôc, kÐo dµi Bushy(a) :rËm r¹p Long loud piercing(a): thÊt thanh, the thÐ - Call some Ss to read the complete text in front of the class. - Ask for comments from other Ss * Explain the order of the adjectives in the sentences: - Give example: A tall young man A large wooden table An old English song - Have Ss do task c. - Call on some Ss to write their sentences on the board - Check the exercise in front of the class. 2. Verb forms review - Review the forms of the verbs in present simple, past perfect, present perfect. - Tell the Ss to work individually and completely the passage with the correct form of the verbs in parentheses. - Have Ss compare their answers with a friend. - Call on some Ss to read their answers. b.
