Trang 3ABSTRACT
Handheld digital devices, particularly iPads and laptop computers, are becoming more prevalent in educational institutions, prompting debates between supporters and detractors This research investigates HUFLIT students’ attitudes toward using iPads in the classroom There was a review of materials accessible on digital devices and iPads used in the classroom The participants, 20 HUF LIT students, completed an online survey
in which they were questioned about the benefits and drawhacks of using iPads and laptops 1:1 at their school Surname Although the majority of students thought that iPads and laptops play an important role in the teaching and learning process to engage students in the classroom, the findings were mixed However, some participants expressed concern that iPads and laptop computers would distract pupils and encourage non-task behavior in the classroom The findings also indicate that teachers require targeted professional development training on practical iPad use and pedagogy in order
to effectively integrate iPads and laptops into their classroom practices This study suggests an emphasis on digital didactic designs, and studies on subject-specific, student- focused, and app-appropriated iPad and laptop use

5 CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS
Trang 61.1 Background
Much has been said and said about how today's young learners are growing up ina technological and digital media-rich environment This is the generation that has never known a world without 3G phones (which became available in 2001), Facebook (which became available in 2004), YouTube (2005), and smartphones (2007) Prensky
(Citation2001) refers to them as Digital Natives and encourages schools to develop Digital Native techniques in order to engage them Some of his suggestions include providing them with easy access to information and learning materials, as Digital Natives are accustomed to searching for information online whenever they are unsure Prensky also mentions chances for peer collaboration, stating that Digital Natives "function best when networked" The introduction of the iPad and laptop provided an opportunity to make such techniques a reality Unlike desktop computers, which required excursions to computer labs, the mobility provided by the lightweight iPads and laptops permitted Internet access to online materials readily available wherever the courses were held In addition, unlike the laptop, the 1Pad had a battery life that went considerably beyond typical school hours This, combined with the iPad's quick boot-up time and reliability against crashes, makes it a popular learning device in schools Finally, the intuitive touch interface demonstrated usability, which is critical for the effective adoption of any learning system (Milrad & Spikol, Citation 2007) In summary, having fast and consistent access to learning support and course material via a mobile, user-friendly personal device provided more options for learner-centered pedagogies
1.2 Scopes
The iPad was introduced in the school included in this study in 2011 with the goal of promoting learner-centered pedagogies The iPad and laptop initiative was inspired by the conviction that the opportunities provided by technology will help students stay interested and passionate about learning Students, for example, will have ready access to online resources, including the World Wide Web for real-time information, with a mobile device
in hand Web 2.0 tools can also be used by students for online collaboration and feedback Initially, in 2011, iPads were loaned to pupils in four pilot classes to be used for a variety
of academic courses, and students were allowed to bring them home, even during school holidays They returned to school at the end of the school year When the concept was scaled up, the iPads and laptops were purchased and owned by the learners themselves to
be used as personal learning devices
1.3 Objectives
To guide teachers, principals, parents, and other reluctant stakeholders, technological functioning, pedagogical design, and hurdles to 1Pad and laptop integration must be stressed An overview of the area of future study will contribute to the field of educational technology or e-learning by focusing on the popularization of 1Pads and laptops in various school contexts This paper does a comprehensive evaluation of the available literature on the use of iPads and laptop computers in formal classroom instruction Furthermore, the study examines the benefits and drawbacks of employing such technological gadgets in
Trang 7the classroom In this respect, the study issue is: what are the benefits and drawbacks of integrating iPads and laptop computers in schools? The intended audience in this case is HUFLIT students
Trang 8CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 The current situation of using iPad and laptops in classrooms of Huflit students 2.1.1 Introducing the iPad and Laptops in Education
“On January 27, 2010, Apple introduced iPad, a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more” (Smith, Evans, 2010), since then, the iPad has been introduced to the field of education, with mixed reviews, but mostly positive When the iPad was launched in 2010, numerous iPad-oriented projects and studies emerged worldwide within a diversity of settings Specifically, for the field of education, the interest was, according to Apple, reaching unprecedented heights 2.1.2 Comparing the past and present attitudes toward the use of iPad and laptops in the classroom of Huflit students
In our current world, where the use of technology has become so prominent, it is not rare to walk into a classroom at any level and notice at least one technological device The use of many traditional teaching tools, such as chalkboards and slates has been replaced by modern technological devices, and curriculums often revolve around online learning Many schools mandate that students possess their own iPad devices in order to access online learning tools, applications, and digital textbooks used both inside and outside of school
As early as 2011, researchers have recognized how the “touch-sensitive, lightweight and compact” features of the iPad make it a device that has the potential to change the classroom and student learning (“Educators Find the iPads’’)
2.2 The benefits of using iPad and laptops in classrooms of Huflit students
2.2.1 Improving knowledge
“Have you ever heard of the saying “There’s an app for that”? The number of apps there are to choose from and the ability to search and find information on literally anything that you can think of is an amazing advantage to having technology like an 1Pad
in the classroom The plethora of educational resources literally at students’ fingertips is amazing” (Janelle Cox, 2013)
iPads can be used to improve knowledge by providing access to educational resources such as eBooks, podcasts, videos, and interactive activities They also offer a variety of applications designed specifically for learning purposes that can help students stay organized, complete assignments quickly and accurately, and even collaborate with peers
on projects With their portability and convenience, iPads are an ideal tool for improving knowledge in any classroom setting
Trang 92.2.2 Becoming an active and social process
With iPads, people can stay connected with their friends, family, and colleagues through social media platforms It also helps us to be more active and creative We can use it for work or leisure activities such as reading books, watching movies, playing games, and creating artwork Furthermore, iPads provide a great platform to collaborate with others by sharing ideas over video calls or working together on projects remotely Therefore, iPads are not only a great tool for entertainment but also a powerful tool for staying connected with the world around us
2.2.3 Interacting better with teacher, classmates, and materials
“iPads and laptops can help to increase the disengaged; with a wide variety of learning materials, there are new and exciting ways for students to learn” (Janelle Cox, 2013) [Pads have revolutionized the way students interact with their teachers, classmates, and materials With iPads, students can participate in class discussions more easily, access digital learning materials more quicker, and collaborate with peers on projects more effectively Moreover, iPads make it easier for teachers to keep track of student progress and provide feedback on assignments In short, iPads are making it easier than ever before for teachers to connect with their students in meaningful ways
2.3 The detriments of using iPad and laptops in classrooms of Huflit students 2.3.1 Having bad effects on their health
“In fact, a report released in October 2019, by Common Sense Media found that 8- to 12- year-olds use screens for entertainment for an average of 4 hours, 44 minutes a day, and 13- to 18-year-olds are on screens for an average of 7 hours, 22 minutes each day” (Janelle Cox, 2013)
This can be detrimental to their physical and mental health, as well as their academic performance With this in mind, it is important for parents and teachers to recognize the need for less screen time for students By limiting the amount of time spent on digital devices, we can ensure that students have the opportunity to engage in activities that are beneficial to their growth and development Additionally, reducing screen time will allow students to focus on connecting with others in meaningful ways, which is an essential part
of a well-rounded education
2.3.2 Distracting students from studies
The use of iPads can be distracting for students, as they may be tempted to use them for activities other than studying “With access to games and videos, it’s no wonder all of the neigh-sayers are against 1:1 technology in the classroom” (Janelle Cox, 2013) This can have a negative impact on their academic performance and overall learning
experience The issue of iPad distraction has become more pronounced in recent years due to the rise of social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat Students may find it difficult to resist the temptation of checking these sites when their iPad is within easy reach Furthermore, the availability of educational apps that are designed to make
Trang 10
learning more fun can also lead to students spending more time playing games than studying
2.2.3 Accessing inappropriate information, videos, or pictures
With the rise of iPads and other mobile devices, parents are increasingly concerned about their children accessing inappropriate information, videos, or pictures While these devices offer plenty of educational opportunities, they also open the door to potentially harmful content that can have a negative influence on young minds
2.4 Effective solutions to address the detriments of using iPad or laptops in
classrooms of Huflit students
2.4.1 Planning to use iPad or laptops with the limit
Whether you are planning to use an iPad or a laptop, it is essential to consider the limitations and advantages of each device before making a decision When deciding between an iPad or a laptop, it is important to consider factors such as portability, battery life, memory capacity, and connectivity 1Pads are usually lighter and more portable than laptops but may have limited storage capacity On the other hand, laptops offer more power and flexibility but are bulkier and require more energy to run It is also important to consider the use cases of each device when planning to use either one with a limit 2.4.2 Combining with social learning
By leveraging the power of AI tools such as machine learning algorithms, natural language processing techniques, and automated content generation tools, educators can further customize their social learning experiences by providing personalized content recommendations based on individual interests and preferences This helps create an even more engaging environment for learners as they are able to access relevant material tailored specifically for them “The longer day could lead to tired, burned-out and inattentive students, or force them to abandon their after-school activities, which are also important for social development and growth” (Erica Loop)
Trang 11CHAPTER 3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 3.1 Description of the Subjects
Having already established the basis of the theoretical outlook of this research paper, which is also pertinent to the lens through which the evidence collected will be looked at,
it is now necessary to reflect upon how evidence will be collected to support the arguments espoused in this paper “There are numerous approaches to social research, but
in endeavoring to explore the impact of one individual m a particular field, the use of historical analysis via life biography is relevant to this dissertation” (Barbie, 2001) There are numerous ways in which to create a good research paper The interview method
is a way to gather primary data by having interviews with particular people The only way
to ascertain the thoughts and intents of customers is through this The interview method does, however, have some drawbacks It is expensive and time-consuming, and
interviewers frequently give incomplete or dishonest answers This can affect the final result In contrast, the questionnaire is the least time-consuming method Moreover, the respondents provided objective answers to the questionnaire In this case, a questionnaire
is perhaps the best choice for the research paper This helps the paper much in
determining the perception and viewpoint of respondents
With the above analysis, the method of the questionnaire is supposed to be a trustworthy one for the research
3.2 Procedures of Data Collection
3.2.1 Questionnaire
A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a set of standardized questions to gather statistically useful information on some subject from one or more respondents To make it simple, consider a questionnaire to be a written interview consisting of
standardized questions which can be answered face-to-face, over the telephone, through the post, or even online The questionnaires include multiple-choice questions and open- ended options in which the participants could contribute their own ideas about the issues The participants were not required to write their names on the questionnaires to ensure subjectiveness
The main purpose of a questionnaire is to extract data from the respondents It is a relatively inexpensive, quick, and efficient way of collecting a large amount of data even when the researcher isn’t present to collect those responses firsthand
Based on the above criteria, the questionnaire in this research 1s considered to be designed
as properly as possible The questionnaire for this study consists of 12 questions Only 2 questions are designed in a short-answer format to ask for their information The second 2
