TQT SECONDARY SCHOOL LESSON PLAN WEEK 30 PERIOD 88 UNIT 12: ROBOTS LESSON 5: SKILLS I OBJECTIVES Knowledge By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to: listen for specific information about different opinions of what robots will be able to in the future and write opinions about the roles of robots in the future 1.1 Vocabulary: revision 1.2 Grammar: revision Competences - By the end of the lesson Ss can develop self control and self study - The Ss also form communication skills and team cooperation with other members - Ss know how to solve problems in different ways in a creative way Quality - Have the serious attitude to studying and the good relationship with friends The love of learning English, hard working, honest, cooperative, sociable, good communication II TEACHING AIDS Students: Students ‘book, workbook, pictures, A0 paper Teachers: Students ‘book, workbook, lesson plan, pictures, projector III TEACHING PROCEDURES Warm up: Chatting Where you think the robot show is? What types of robots are there in the show? Who is at the show? Would you like to go to a robot show? Why/Why not? Ss discuss the questions New lesson: ACTIVITY a) Aims: –– To help Ss understand the gist of the conversation; –– To help Ss develop the skill of listening for specific information b) Content: Listen to the conversation between Khang and Dr Adams and tick the phrases you hear TQT SECONDARY SCHOOL LESSON PLAN c) Output: Complete the task d) Process –– First, ask Ss to underline the key words in each of the five given phrases and guess which phrases will appear in the conversation –– Play the recording and ask Ss to tick the phrases they hear from the conversation Then ask two or three Ss to write their answers on the board –– Play the recording again for Ss to check the answers If time is limited, T may only play the recording once T may pause at the sentences that include the information Ss need for their answers Key: –– look after sick people –– understand what we say –– build the very high buildings –– teach many subjects –– move heavy things ACTIVITY a) Aim: To help Ss develop the skill of listening for specific information b) Content: Listen to the conversation again and tick T (True) or F (False) c) Output: take notes of the information d) Process –– Have Ss look at the statements in this activity Ask them how to it Give them some strategies to the exercise (e.g reading the questions, underlining the key words, listening to the text paying attention to the key words, deciding if each sentence is true or false) –– Play the recording twice for Ss to exercise For stronger classes, ask Ss to take notes of the information to explain why a sentence is false –– Have Ss share their answers in pairs Invite some pairs to give their answers and confirm the correct ones Play the recording again if needed, stopping at the place where Ss find it difficult to hear For a better class, ask Ss to correct the false sentences –– If there is time, invite one or two students to briefly tell about robots focusing on their abilities Key: F (Robots can quite a lot today.)
