Lesson 1: Parts - – I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss can b able to: - Use the words and phrases related to the topic comparing places - Ask and answer questions to compare places using comparative form (Short adjectives) II Languages focus: - Vocabulary: New York City, Sydney City, life, small-smaller, big-bigger, large-larger, noisynoisier, busy-busier - Sentence Pattners: “Which one is …………, ………… or ……………? – I think ……………” III Teaching aids: Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks III Procedure: Teacher’s activities Ss’ activities A Warm-up and Revision: - Let’s chant again: “What you think of it?” - Ss chant - Play games Tic-Tac-Toe to review vocabulary - Ss play games and patterns on topic places to visit and opinions on places B Presentation: * Vocabulary - Introduce new words and short adjectives on topic comparing places: New York City, Sydney City, life, small-smaller, big-bigger, large-larger, noisy-noisier, busy-busier - Have Ss listen and repeat in chorus, individually Act Look, listen and repeat: Have the class look at the four pictures Introduce the story by pointing at each character and elicit their answers to the questions: Who are they? Where are they? What are they doing? - Listen and repeat - Look, listen and answer Mai and Tom They’re at school They’re asking and answering about Tom’s hometown, the USA and compare New York with Sydney - Listen and repeat - Have Ss listen and repeat conversations (twice) - Play roles to read - Have Ss play role to read the dialogue in groups/ pairs - Read in pairs - Call some pairs to read the conversation - Encourage Ss to talk - Check again Ss’ understanding C Practice: Act Point and say: Teacher: Tran Kim Tram Le Van Hien Primary School GRADE -Use the puppets to introduce the characters: Hello, I’m Phong Hi, I’m Linda -Set context: Mai and Ms Linda are going to practise asking and answering questions about what someone would like to eat or drink, using: + Linda: Which one is …………, ………… or ……………? + Phong : I think …………… - Give out the pattern and explain how to use - Have Ss listen and repeat again the pattern: - Ask some pairs to ask and answer again - Introduce phrases under pictures - Have Ss listen and repeat in chorus, individually 2.2 Practice: - Point at picture a and ask the question Which one is smaller, Hoan Kiem Lake or West Lake?
