UNIT 6: A VISIT TO A SCHOOL Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED I OBJECTIVES: Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students able to use the words to talk about school activities a Grammar: Review b Vocabulary: related to the topic school activities Competence: - Students can develop competence of communication, co-operation, self-learning capability, ability to use language to complete the tasks - Listening, Speaking, Reading,Writing and interactive skills Attitude: - Cooperate, respect, having right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers - Develope listening, speaking skills and cooperative interaction - Be interested in the topic and know how to join school activities II/ TEACHING AIDS (MATERIALS) 1.Teacher’s preparation: - Lesson plan, Pictures, posters ,textbook,CD-MP3(Computer-Multi projector/cassette/ “sách mềm”) and other materials 2.Students’ preparation: -Textbook, notebook, school things III/ TEACHING PROCEDURE: Activity 1: Warm up (5’) Goal Input Outcome The activity aims at - Creating an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson - Leading into the new lesson * Kim’s game: The pictures of ingredients Ss’ answers: tomato, butter, onion, salt, pepper, flour , sugar Procedure - Teacher has students play the game Kim’s game to revise the vocabulary items they have learnt in Unit - Teacher gives feedback and introduces the topic of the lesson Activity : Teaching new words ( ’) Goal Input Outcome The activity aims at teaching students meaning and how to pronounce some vocabulary mentioned in getting started New words: - prepare (v): - library (n): - take photos (v): - lower secondary school (n): - share (v): - prepare (v): chuẩn bị - library (n): thư viện - take photos (v): chụp ảnh - lower secondary school (n): trường trung học sở - share (v): chia sẻ - Teacher uses different techniques to teach vocabulary (example, explanation, pictures) Procedur - Teacher guides students to read vocabulary (pronunciation, stress) e - Ss listen and repeat chorally and individually - T corrects students’pronunciaton if necessary Activity 3: Practice (12 ’) Task 1: Listen and read Goal Input The activity aims at setting the context for the introductory conversation and introducing the topic of the unit T draws students’attention to the picture in the textbook and asks them to answer some questions Who are they ? What is Mi doing ? What are they talking about? Suggested Key: They are Phong and Mi Outcome Mi is putting some clothes into her backpack They are talking about a visit to Binh Minh Lower Secondary School - T encourages students to answer, but not confirm their answers Procedur e - T plays the recording twice for students to listen and read along Then invite some pairs of students to read the conversation aloud - T refers to the questions previously asked Confirm the correct answers Task 2: Goal Input The activity aims at helping students understand the main idea of the conversation Outcome Key: 1.B C C B - T asks ss to guess the answer without reading the conversation again Procedur - T asks ss to explain why they did not choose the other two options e - Then T confirms the answer - Ss copy down Activity 4: Task ( 6’) Goal Input The activity aims at helping students label the correct pictures with the words / phrases provided Task Outcome Procedur e KEY : gym computer room school garden playground school library - T runs through the pictures and the words and phrases - Sts individually write a word or a phrase from the box under its picture - Sts compare with friends - T calls sts to say the answers aloud - T gives feedback Activity 5: Task 4: (6 ’) Goal The activity aims at helping students use the words / phrases in to complete the sentences Input Key: playground Outcome gym computer room school library school garden - T runs through the task - T asks Ss to work independently to fill in each blank with words in Procedure - T allows Ss to share their answers before discussing as a class - T calls some students to check - T confirms the right answers and writes them on the board Activity 6: Task 5: (8 ’) Goal To help students practice asking and answering questions about Nick’s timetable, using When and Where Input Outcome Students’ answers Procedure - T has students look at the timetable, then ask and answer questions about times and places - T asks Ss to read the example and explain how the task is carried out - T asks one pair of Ss to read aloud the example in front of the class as a modal - T gives Ss time to the task in pairs Then call on a few pairs to perform the task in front of the class Check their answer and explain if necessary Homework: (2 minutes) - Read again the conversation in Textbook - Learn by heart the new words - Prepare new lesson: Unit - Lesson 2: A Closer Look *Evaluation: ……………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………………………………… …… ……………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………… ... - Teacher uses different techniques to teach vocabulary (example, explanation, pictures) Procedur - Teacher guides students to read vocabulary (pronunciation, stress) e - Ss listen and repeat...Procedure - Teacher has students play the game Kim’s game to revise the vocabulary items they have learnt in Unit - Teacher gives feedback and introduces the topic of the lesson Activity : Teaching... using When and Where Input Outcome Students’ answers Procedure - T has students look at the timetable, then ask and answer questions about times and places - T asks Ss to read the example and explain
