TEACHING PLAN Team/Group: Group SUBJECT: ENGLISH Preparation day: …… Week: ……………… Teaching day: … Period: …… UNIT 8: FILMS Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED Timing: period (45 minutes) I OBJECTIVES:   Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Extend and practise vocabularies related to the topic ' Films" - Listen and read a conversation between Mi and Mark about films  - Use language to ask and answer about films a Grammar: Review b Vocabulary: related to the topic Films Competence: - Students can develop competence of communication, co-operation, self-learning capability, ability to use language to complete the tasks - Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and interactive skills Attitude: - Cooperate, respect, have right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers - Develop listening, speaking skills and cooperative interaction - Be interested in the topic and know how to show their feeling about a film II/ TEACHING AIDS (MATERIALS) 1.Teacher’s preparation:   - Lesson plan, Pictures, posters, textbook, CD-MP3 (Computer-Multi projector/cassette), sachmem.vn and other materials 2.Students’ preparation:  -Textbook, notebook III/ TEACHING PROCEDURE:     Activity 1:  Warm up (5’) Goal The activity aims at -  Creating an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson -  Leading into the new lesson Input * Brainstorming: Types of films Outcome Ss’ answers: Comedy, Horror, Romance, Action, Mystery, , Procedure -  Teacher has students play the game Brainstorming to lead in the lesson - Students play in two teams - Teacher gives feedback and introduces the topic of the lesson Activity 2: Teaching new words (10’)                                                              Goal The activity aims at teaching students meaning and how to pronounce some vocabularies  mentioned in getting started Input New words: - Frightening (adj):  - Moving (adj): - Horror film (n):   - Documentary (n):  - Review (n)  - Fantasy (n):    -  Science fiction (n)  - to star:   Outcome - Frightening (adj): khủng khiếp - Moving (adj): cảm động - Horror film(n): phim kinh dị - Documentary (n): phim tài liệu - Review (n): phê bình - Fantasy t(n):  phim giả tưởng - Science fiction (n) phim khoa học viễn tưởng - To star: đóng vai chính      Procedure - Teacher uses different techniques to teach vocabulary (example, explanation, pictures,ect) - Teacher guides students to read vocabulary (pronunciation, stress) - Ss listen and repeat chorally and individually - T corrects students’ pronunciation if necessary - SS copy the words            Activity 3: Practice         Task 1: Listen and read (6’) Goal The activity aims at setting the context for the introductory conversation and introducing the topic of the unit Input T draws students ’attention to the picture in the textbook and asks them to answer some questions What are Mi and Mark going to tonight?  How many types of films are they talking about? What are they? Outcome Suggested Key:     They are going to the cinema   There are three They are horror film, documentary and comedy Procedure -         T encourages students to answer, but not confirm their answers are true or false -         T plays the recording once for students to listen -         T refers to the questions previously asked Confirm the correct answers   Task 2(5’) Read the conversation again and choose the correct answer: Goal The activity aims at helping students understand the main idea of the conversation Input Outcome 1.What does Mark suggest doing tonight? A.Watching a TV show B.Watching a film C.Staying at home 2.Why doesn’t Mark want to see An Old Pier? A.He doesn’t like that type of film B.It’s not on at a convenient time C.He saw it last week 3.The word “reviews” in the conversation mostly means A.people’s opinions about a film B.interesting scenes in a film C.what people don’t like about a film 4.What people think of Our Holiday? A.Everyone likes it B.No one likes it C.Most people like it Key:   1.B        A            A               C Procedure - T asks ss to read the conversation in detail to answer the questions - T asks ss to explain why they did not choose the other two options.  - Then T confirms the answer - Ss copy down   Activity 4:  Task (5’) Choose the correct word or phrase to complete each of the following sentences Goal The activity aims at helping students to know new vocabulary related to types of film Input 1.A film that tries to make the audience laugh is a (comedy / documentary) 2.A film that is based only on imagination, not on real facts, is a (comedy / fantasy) 3.A film that shows real life events or stories is a (documentary / horror film) 4.A film that is set in the future, often about science, is a (cartoon / science fiction film) 5.A film in which strange and frightening things happen is a (horror film / comedy) Outcome KEY : Comedy                            Fantasy                    Documentary Science fiction film            Horror film -         T runs through the pictures and the words and phrases -         Ss individually write a word or a phrase from the box under its picture -         Ss compare with friends -         T calls ss to say the answers aloud -         T gives feedback Procedure      Activity 5: Task 4: (6’) Complete the following sentences with the words in the box:        Goal The activity aims at helping students use the words in the box to complete the sentences Input       funny     boring     frightening      moving       interesting 1.Going to the hospital can be …………… for a child 2.The film was so ………… that the audience couldn’t stop laughing 3.Many people cried when they saw the ………… scenes of the film 4.The film last night was so ……………… that we fell asleep 5.This book is ………………… I got a lot of useful information from it Outcome Key: 1.  frightening               3.  moving   2.  funny                           4.  boring   5.  interesting       Procedure     -         T runs through the task -         T asks Ss to work independently to fill in each blank with words in -         T allows Ss to share their answers before discussing as a class -         T calls some students to check -         T confirms the right answers and writes them on the board      Activity 6: Task 5: (6’) Work in pair Ask and answer about a type of film Use some of the adjectives in Goal To help Ss practise talking about their feelings about a type of film Input Example A: Do you like documentaries? B: No, I don’t A: Why not?
