2019 SCISA HUNT SEAT EQUESTRIAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP Hosted by: Hammond School Sunday, April 7, 2019 Clear View Farm 105 Smith Road Landrum, SC 29356 The following have been invited to officiate: Judge Jeanne Smith USEF R/Hunter/Jumping Seat Equitation Landrum, SC Steward Bonnie Chiles Penrose, NC Show Manager Taylor Myers St Matthews, SC Course Designer Bonnie Chiles Penrose, NC Announcer Katherine Robinson Columbia, SC Medical Personnel Gowensville Fire Department Landrum, SC 2019 SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian League Rules RULES OF COMPETITION: USEF (United States Equestrian Federation) along with any modifications from SCISA (South Carolina Independent Schools Association) are the official rules PRACTICE: Equestrian season is open under the same Summer restrictions and first practice dates as Fall teams but will continue into the Winter and Spring seasons (May attend camps in June or July and hold up to 12 team practices over the summer Official team practices begin the first practice day in August, mirroring all other Fall sports) DISCIPLINE (STYLE OF COMPETITION): Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences and Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat GENERAL RULES: Varsity teams: Eligible students in grades 6-12 may participate in Varsity Equestrian (Varsity Open classes will be limited to grades 9-12) Teams may be made up of any combination of male and/or female riders Teams may be comprised of one or more members To be eligible riders must compete for their school team only in SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian and must be listed on the roster with their SCISA Athletic Director and SCISA Athletic Department of their school The SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian League regular season competitions will number or more Regular season qualifying competitions will be offered in the Fall, the Winter, and in the Spring All participants must have competed in at least one regular season SCISA Hunt Seat League competition to qualify to be invited to compete in the State Championship Riders will use the draw format for horses based on their skill level and size by a process overseen by a certified steward familiar with the draw format rider placement at both middle, upper school, and the collegiate level as a guideline Schools/participants should coordinate with the host team for horses for the event Apparel: Proper attire for these competitions will be in accordance with USEF rules of competition and will be published, in advance, outlining specifications for proper headgear, boots, etc Cost: Entry fees will be $50 per class *Please note: Walk/Trot Equitation points will not be included in the total team points and has a discounted entry fee of $40 10 Riders will be assigned to a division based on their present division assignments at other draw format competitions or by referencing those guidelines if only competing in SCISA competitions* (see note on State Championships Paragraph number for the only exception to this rule) 11 A team may allow unlimited entries into each class, but only one score will be received for the highest ribbon placing won, if any, in each class If classes are divided into sections, only one score for the class, not each section, will be recorded on the scoreboard 12 A rider may only compete in one division (i.e one over fences class and one flat class) 13 Riders will receive the following points for placings: (1st: points, 2nd: points, 3rd: points, 4th: points, 5th: points, 6th: point) Only the highest placing team rider will be earning points for the school team in a given class 14 FOR THE SAFETY AND CONSIDERATION OF ALL, NO DOGS PERMITTED ON THE PREMISES DURING THE COMPETITION PLEASE LEAVE YOUR DOGS AT HOME STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The State Championship will be an "invitational." Requirements: Riders must have shown in at least one SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian Regular Season SCISA qualifying competition for their SCISA member school prior to the State Championships to be eligible to compete and be listed on the Official roster for their SCISA member school, recorded with their SCISA Athletic Director and SCISA Athletic Department The host team(s) for the State Championship competition will rotate through participating teams All other eligible SCISA member schools with equestrian teams will be expected to assist with volunteers for the event In the event a SCISA member school does not have a full-time equestrian team, they may be represented by sending a team of riders or individual riders fully enrolled at the school (all of whom have already competed in the required SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian League show during the current season) to the State Championship All SCISA athletic forms and waivers must have been completed and submitted to the SCISA school Athletic Director and Athletic Department, as with all other SCISA sports **[A team with multiple riders in a division may choose to move a rider up one division to compete for team points in the state championship (i.e a team has riders in the Intermediate division and no riders in the Open division they may choose to move one rider to compete at this state competition in the Open Division, providing they meet the age (grade -12) requirement All other divisions may move a rider up without restrictions as only Varsity Open is restricted to grades – 12 i.e A team has riders in the Beginner Division and no riders in the Novice Division, they may choose to move one rider to compete at this state competition in the Novice Division.)] A SCISA Hunt Seat State Champion and SCISA Hunt Seat State Reserve Champion will all be crowned at the state championship event Team championships will be based on a cumulative total of points scored from Hunt Seat classes At all shows, regular season and the State Championship, in the event of a tie score, for all placings, team ties shall be broken first by the total number of first (1st) place finishes, then by total number of second (2nd) place finishes, then by total number of third (3rd) place finishes, then by total number of fourth (4th) place finishes, then by total number of fifth (5th) place finishes If a tie still exists, then it shall be broken by the highest total over fences points SPORTSMANSHIP: All participants must adhere to the principles of good sportsmanship and the SCISA Code of Conduct Warning - Under South Carolina law, an equine activity sponsor or equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in an equine activity resulting from an inherent risk of equine activity, pursuant to Article 7, Chapter of Title 47, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976 Class Descriptions Class – Varsity Open Equitation Flat Restricted to Grades - 12 Class – Varsity Intermediate Equitation Flat Open to Grades – 12 Class – Novice Equitation Flat Open to Grades - 12 Class – Beginner Equitation Flat Open to Grades – 12 Exhibition Class – Walk Trot Class – Varsity Open Over Fences 2’6” Restricted to Grades - 12 Class – Varsity Intermediate Over Fences 2’ Open to Grades – 12 Class – Novice Over Fences Crossrails Open to Grades - 12 Hunt Seat Schedule 2019 SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian State Championship Competition Sunday, April 7, 2019 09:00a.m Registration 09:15a.m – 10:00a.m Schooling of All Horses 10:00a.m Live Draw with Steward in Show Office 10:15a.m Coaches Meeting 10:45a.m Course Walk 11:00a.m Class Flat Start of Competition Varsity Open Equitation on the Class Varsity Intermediate Equitation on the Flat Class - Novice Equitation on the Flat Class - Beginner Equitation on the Flat Exhibition Class – Walk Trot Class - Varsity Open Over Fences 2’6” Class - Varsity Intermediate Over Fences 2’ Class - Novice Over Fences Crossrails Directions www.clearviewlandrum.com Clear View Farm is located in Greenville County just 30 minutes from downtown Greenville and downtown Spartanburg From Columbia and Charleston travel I26 West to Spartanburg DIRECTIONS FROM I-26 VIA LANDRUM: Take Exit for Highway 14 towards Landrum Continue through Landrum on Highway 14 and turn right onto Smith Road (after you pass Twin Oaks Vet Clinic, Smith Road will be the next right) The 2nd driveway on the left is the Clear View Farm entrance 2019 SCISA Hunt Seat Equestrian State Championship Competition Show Program Participating Teams (Tentative team rosters until entries and payment received) (In alphabetical order) Ashley Hall Charleston, SC Dorchester Academy St George, SC Hammond School Columbia, SC Porter Gaud Charleston, SC The Kings Academy Florence, SC Thomas Hart Academy Hartsville, SC Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate Darlington, SC Wilson Hall Sumter, SC
