The most effective is a matter of concern for educational administrators, teachers, parents and students Unlike face-to-face classes, online lessons not have much time and opportunities for students to interact and exchange information with other students, reducing the ability to communicate between students Therefore, the problem of exchanging, connecting and enhancing mutual learning is a limitation Especially for introverts, it is easy to fall into isolation and receive little support Students will not even interact with the teacher, leading to the teacher having a hard time to manage the students and the class is becoming boring In order to have a good quality online English class, giving students an excitement when absorbing the lesson, the teacher must really have unique and attractive methods Through the process of online teaching, I realize that in addition to the knowledge and style of a foreign language teacher, the teaching method is also an extremely important factor in attracting students' interest, concentration and interest as well love the subject Currently, there are many new teaching methods that have been applied in the online teaching process These are good methods, easy to use and have contributed to improving the quality of the subject Through the process of teaching online, I have applied “Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively” to my lessons to stimulate students' interest in learning Personally, I find that using some attractive support tools in teaching and learning English online is really effective Students feel excited when learning English through these support tools To be honest, there are inevitable shortcomings and mistakes in my study in such limited time I am glad to have more constructive opinions and helpful supports from my colleagues so that it will be more perfect and applicable Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively II Aims of the study The aims of this study are: - To create the harmonic atmostphere which sets the establishment of rapport between teachers and students in learning online - To make students more motivated and interested in learning English - To help students improve their memories and make learning fun - To increase students’ experiential learning on the basis: “Playing in learning” - To promote students’ communicative and cooperative skills -To boost students’ confidence and help them become more student-centred and student-initiated -To encourage students’ peer-assessment and empower them to take action to improve their performance - To help students understand the aim of their learning so as to raise students’ achievement III Methods of the study - Apply and adapt some essential knowledge from the workshops and classes I have participated in before - On the basic of my experiential learning and teaching online - Cooperate with my colleagues to share the problems and get their useful supports - Make full use of a variety of support tools - Implement the surveys among the students to find out the necessary figures and solutions to the problems IV Scope of the study The students at Quynh Luu High school PART B: CONTENT I Theoretical and practical background Theoretical background 1.1 What are online teaching support tools? Online teaching support tools are additional support software for teachers to manage students, deliver assignments, grade and track student learning progress as well as organize online lessons Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively 1.2 Why should teachers use online support tools? Online support tools are designed so that students can apply a variety of skills Teachers should use projects in their teaching and assessment process for a number of reasons - Online support tools help students develop all skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, communication With this combination of skills, students become directors and managers of their own learning process, guided and mentored by a skilled teacher - Online support tools bring learning relevance By incorporating digital technology into the curriculum, students are encouraged to become independent workers, critical thinkers and lifelong learners - Online support tools are not only a way of learning but also a way of working together and students must learn to take responsibility for their own learning - Online support tools make the review process more authentic It develops students' ability to work with their peers, building teamwork and teamwork skills It also helps teachers communicate in progressive and meaningful ways with students about a variety of issues - Schools that practice learning using online tools see an increase in collaborative learning skills and improved student achievement 1.3 Disadvantages of online support tools - Organizing games, or making exercises using supporting tools takes a lot of time, affecting the teaching progress - The better students receive more praise, which causes the inferior students to become discredited in the class It leads to some worse students not participating in the game for many different reasons: they will feel bored, lose time Moreover, in order to play games, or to practice using support tools, students must have good equipment, high-speed and stable network - Using online support tools is a difficult method that requires a lot of time for teachers, so teachers need to know the methods and ways of organizing, composing games, making exercises and If you are good at information technology, you can run it well - Some applications students can cheat when doing the test - Teachers are familiar with the traditional teaching method of lecturing, discussing, asking students to memorize materials to take tests However, by using online support tools, teachers must act as facilitators rather than disseminators This will be unfamiliar to some teachers, and they may have difficulty breaking free from their past habits Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively 1.4 The role of Online support tools Games or exercises used through Online support tools are a source of encouragement and interest in learning for students They are often considered as the first step to attract students' attention to the foreign language teaching environment For most games, competition between players and teams is a powerful learning motivator for students This statement lets us know that Games can play a really important role in the language online classroom Games or exercises used through support tools have shown that : - Improves concentration - Improves memory - Brings a sense of community to a group - Motivates learning - Relaxes people who are overwhelmed or stressed - Makes learning fun - Helps learners absorb lessons 1.5 Features of tools to support online teaching - Games or exercises used through online teaching support tools ask a question or poses a problem that each student can answer Issues can be discussed All teachers can support, encourage and model - Online teaching support tools allow students to delve deeper into content in a more direct and meaningful way Students will have different learning styles, specific experiences and practices that are brought together in the learning process Students also have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge - Online teaching support tools require students to investigate problems in the curriculum By creating bridges between subjects, students view knowledge historically, rather than looking at isolated facts - Online teaching aids promote students' understanding to help them answer questions correctly 1.6 The role of teachers and students in online lessons 1.6.1 The role of the teacher For an effective online lesson, teachers need Prepare lessons Prepare materials for the lesson Diversify learning activities through the combination of visual channels, text channels, audio channels, challenges, and games Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively Use online process assessment tools to immediately respond to and evaluate each student's small tasks (In order to prevent the loading time of these support tools from being long, teachers need to open the necessary tools before during class time) Create opportunities for students to participate in discussions in the class through the chat feature of online calling tools or tools that allow creating online discussion spaces To successfully make use of online teaching aids, teachers must support students by providing adequate guidance and feedback Furthermore, they need to explain all assignments clearly, provide detailed directions, and rotate within the classroom to answer questions and encourage student motivation Furthermore, teachers must plan well, be flexible and consider themselves in the role of learners and accompanying students 1.6.2 The role of students in the online classroom Usually, students work in small groups, individually or in pairs to answer questions 1.7 Steps to implement online teaching support tools Using online teaching aids is an activity performed by students with the support of teachers There are four steps to implementing online teaching support tools 1.7.1 Start thinking and answering questions This phase involves selecting topics and questions that are relevant to the student Based on the question through support tools for students to answer Questions should be challenging and motivating so that students can develop and have the flexibility to work at their level 1.7.2 Answer the questions At this stage, all team members conduct research individually, in pairs, or in groups They must also find answers to guiding questions, documenting their results through support tools 1.7.3 Get results During this phase, students will know their results immediately through the automatic feature of supporting tools All answers are assessed to ensure that students understand the lesson 1.7.4 Evaluate At this stage, the final product is assessed, and students self-assess their abilities based on what they have learned Self-assessment is encouraged by allowing students to view their results through automated aids Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively The applicable manner of online support tools Nowadays, the development of technology makes it easy to use support tools in online classroom We can use computer, laptop, tablet, or even mobile phone to use support tools Besides, support tools can be used to teach in almost lessons, as reading lessons, speaking lessons, listening lessons, writing lessons or language focus lessons and it can be used in almost stages, as warm up ,before teaching, while teaching, after teaching For these, I myself have been trying to put online teaching support tools into online class for years, and the result is really impressive and surprising II Techniques for using support tools in English online classroom Considering the great advantages of support tools mentioned above, there are a variety of different ways to use support tools in the online classroom Such as Quizizz,Wordwall, whell of name, Kahoot, Baamboozle, Blooket google form, azotar Support tools choosen to use in classroom should be easy to understand and easy to use I myself have applied some useful techniques for using online teaching support tools to help students get movitated and improve the learning atmosphere in English online classroom I have been using support tools in English learning online classroom in four classes: 11D2, 11D5, 12A1, 12A6 And I amazingly found that they have made teaching and learning easier, faster and more pleasing: III The solutions Keys to success - Teachers should start with easy online teaching support tools – The online teaching support tools should be suitable with class and easy to understand and easy to play - When designing a technique, teacher should have in mind which content standards will be addressed, what kind of games to support and what materials and resources will be accessible to the students to assist them Practical background Unlike traditional method of teaching and learning in which teacher is seen as a disseminator who will bring all necessary informations to students passively The assessment mainly relies on paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that simply presents established facts or portrays a smooth path to knowledge instead of posing questions, problems, or scenarios Thus, students may have few opportunities to develop their cooperative learning skills and selfevaluation Students are even learned in boring classes without support tools Techniques for using support tools to help students get movitated and improve the Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively learning atmosphere in English classroom, where students work in collaborative real-world investigations They will become centered-learner of the learning process and assessment Almost students have motivation in learning English They are more attentive to the lesson and eager to learn As a result, they use the language with great interest and students feel relaxed while learning Description of online support tools and success measures 3.1 Description of online support tools What are the online support tools? - Why you like studying English? - How you like to study in English online class? Teaching content Obviously, the majority of students (97%) want teachers to use support tools when learning online This activity helps students to active their prior knowledge about the topic of the lesson and to guess upcoming information 36 Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively 5.2.2 The results of the test using support tools in online lessons, the initiative is applied to students in two random classes at my school, two other classes in Quynh Luu and the other two classes at Hoang Mai At my school, the treatment was done on class 11D2 (experimental group) and class 11D5 as the control group At Quynh Luu school, it was performed on class 11A1 (experimental group) and class 11D1 as a control group and at Hoang Mai school Table –Post test result of my high shool CONTROL GROUP (11D2) TREATMENT GROUP (11D5) Number of the students Average result the post test Number of the students Average result the post test 7.5 8.5 6.5 7.5 6 7 5.5 6.5 4.5 5.5 3.5 4.5 It was performed on class 11A2 (experimental group) and class 11A3 (control group) The data analysis was collected mainly from the results of using support tools during online lessons after being carried out at three schools for 11th grade students After months of using the support tools in online lessons showed a clear difference 37 Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively Table –Post test result of Quynh Luu high shool CONTROL GROUP (11A1) Number of the students Average result the post test TREATMENT GROUP (11D1) Number of the students Average result the post test 8.5 8.5 7.5 7.5 6.5 5 6.5 5.5 5.5 4.5 4.5 The above table shows the effect of using online classroom aids in the treatment group compared with the control group that did not use this method As can be seen from the above data, the scores of the control group ranged from 3.5 to 8.0 points There were students with scores from 7.5 to 8.0, 13 students with scores from 6.0 to under 7.5 points and 14 students with scores from 5.0 to under 6.0 There are still students in the control group whose hearing loss is less than 5.0 In contrast to the treatment group, out of 38 students with scores between 5.0 and 9.0, eight scored 8.0 or 9.0 and 21 scored between 6.5 and less than 8.0 There are candidates with scores from 5.0 to below 6.5 Taken together, these results suggest that students in the treatment group made better progress after receiving the pre-listening warm-up questions than students in the control group 38 Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively Table –Post test result of Hoang Mai high shool CONTROL GROUP (11A3) TREATMENT GROUP (11A2) Number of the students Average result the post test Number of the students Average result the post test 7.5 8.5 6.5 7.5 7 5.5 6.5 4.5 5.5 3.5 4.5 As can be seen from the above table, out of 38 participants in the treatment group, students scored between and points, 20 scored from 6.5 to less than 8.0, and the rest (13 participants) grade) was rated from 5.0 below 6.5, with no student scoring less than five points Whereas in the control group, none of the participants scored between 8.0 and 9.23 participants and participants scored between 5.0 and below 6.5 and below 5.0, respectively The number of participants who received between 6.5 and less than 8.0 was seven These results indicate that there is some difference in the data that the number of participants who scored high was higher in the treatment group than in the control group Furthermore, no one in the treatment group did not make progress 5.3 Evaluate 5.3.1 Student assessment I use questionnaires to see how students react to this method I gave these questionnaires to students from three schools (as shown above) and the students' comments on this method are as follows: + 0% of students expressed interest in the traditional listening method; + 50% progress in learning English, + 98% of students show their interest in the lessons 39 Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively In addition, my colleagues at Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai also used the same questionnaire to know students' reactions to this method They distributed this questionnaire to students in grades 11A1, 11D1 (Quynh Luu 1) and 11A2, 11A3 (Hoang Mai) (as shown above) and student statistics about this method were as follows: + 0% of students said prefer to learn in the traditional way; + 77% improved in learning English, + 96% of students showed interest in the lesson + While only 1% of students in grade 11A2 at Hoang Mai showed interest in following the traditional way; + 64% progress in learning English, + 98% of students show their interest in the lessons 5.3.2 Reviews of my colleagues (Results from a questionnaire sent to the teacher) The questionnaire was made to investigate the ideas of English teachers in using online learning aids for 11th grade students In my high school and other schools The results are as follows: + 100% of English teachers agree with this method and they give their opinions about it as follows: + 100% of teachers think this method is very important + All teachers agree that this method can effectively motivate students to learn English + 100% of teachers admit that this new method has helped students pay more attention to the lesson + The foreign language ability of students is increasingly improved + They have the opportunity to prepare what they will learn and develop their language skills As a result, their English has improved better (Details of the questionnaire are in the appendix) The result of my work is shown in the following table: How much interest in English did the students have? 5.4 Comments from my colleagues: 42 Some interesting support tools for teaching online effectively PART C: CONCLUSION We could see that online support tools can provide students and teachers with motivation, besides offering opportunities to create a good environment and relationship among them by breaking barriers between teachers and students by reducing students’ anxiety and inhibition during the teaching – learning online process Moreover, it can expose students to vocabulary, good pronunciation, grammar and some cultural aspects of the English language through authentic materials Besides, it is a way of helping them to improve the four main skills Therefore, we can conclude that online support tools used in online classroom is a great way of keeping students highly motivated, besides the English will be used In other words, students will be learning and having fun at the same time, which brings impressive results to the teaching – learning online process Integrating games,
