LESSON PLAN Teacher: Grade: 10 Lesson: Unit (Gender equality) - Reading I Objectives of the lesson:  At the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Knowledge: - Understand the general ideas and specific information in the text about gender equality - Can use words and phrases related to the topic Competences - Students can enhance their reading and comprehension skills - Students can apply the knowledge about gender equality to many different and practical contexts as well as develop their background knowledge useful for other skills Qualities - Students are more confident, responsible, disciplined, active, hard-working - Teamwork and self-study II Teaching aids and materials - Sách Tiếng Anh 10 (Học sinh, Tập Hai) - p.8, - Lesson plan, handouts - Virtual teaching aids: Classdojo, Laptop, ppt slides, video III Anticipated problems and solutions Area Problem Solution Timing The post-reading task some minutes to set up and SS may not get much time to complete it if there is less than ten minutes left in the lesson If students are doing well with the language, and finish the task quite fast, T can speed up while-reading stage The PowerPoint cannot be presented Have a copy of PowerPoint in some applications like: Gmail, Google Present, Equipment If while-reading stage cannot be sped up and there is only or minutes left for post-reading task, T can skip asking their opinions after they finish discussing However, T goes around the class to make sure they are carrying out the task Dropbox… If teacher’s laptop fails to present, T can borrow the available laptop of the school To save time, T needs to test equipment before starting the lesson If the problem is due to transmission equipment, T should use board instead Interaction When working on the post-reading task, two of the students are much stronger in speaking than others and therefore may get bored and less cooperate Groups should include two stronger students working with a weaker student therefore they support and challenge each other better Interaction While discussing the answers in pair, students may not explain why and just look at other’s answers then jump to conclusion T should go around the class and visit groups to make sure they communicate IV Procedure/steps of the lesson Time: 45 minutes (mins) * minute to settle down the class Stage aims Tim e Steps Interaction pattern Lead-in and Warm-up: Pre - Reading Task (adapted from the textbook p8) (4 mins) - Predict the topic of the lesson T let Ss watch a short video (1.36 mins) relating to the topic of the lesson - Make Ss feel engaged in the lesson and the subject - Generate Ss’ background knowledge and ideas about the topic - Provide some language preparation for Ss’ reading ~ 11 mins T-Ss + The video edited by VEED.IO for the subtitle and H5P with some following questions: (1) What are the genders of people drawn by children? A Female B Male (2) Why were the children surprised when these people came in? (3) Can you guess what topic we are going to read about today? + This activity can motivate the Ss’s background knowledge, including assumptions needed to be corrected + (1 mins) T asks some Ss to guess the topic of reading test Presenting key vocabulary: Task (textbook p8) (7 mins) Ss-Ss /T-Ss + T use techniques (picture/mime/explanation/…) to introduce the words + T let Ss work in pairs to this task to check their understanding after introducing the vocabulary + T gives answers and explains any difficulties Ss practice reading skill: + (1 mins) T reminds Ss about some reading techniques necessary for reading tasks in textbook (skimming, scanning, reading for details ) before they read While - Reading - To give Ss more practice for improving reading skill - To help Ss understand writer’s purpose and text structure - To help Ss clarify the content of the text T-Ss + While Ss work on the tasks in their textbooks, T monitors and assists weaker students who are having difficulties completing those tasks * Task (textbook, p.9)(4 mins) ~ 18 mins + T asks Ss to scan the text and find the repeated words and their collocations (1 mins) T-Ss; Ss individually + T explains to Ss that repeated word may imply its main idea or title (1 mins)) + T has Ss skim the text to choose the best title (1 mins)) + T checks Ss’ answers as a class (1mins) T-Ss * Task (textbook, p.9)(6 mins) + T asks Ss to underline the key words in the statements and relevant words/phrases in the text (2 mins) T-Ss; Ss individually + T ask Ss to check if the statements are True, False or Not give (2 mins) + T checks answers as a class (2 mins) * Task (textbook, p.9)(6 mins) + T asks Ss to look at the questions quickly and underline the key words which can help them to locate the specific information in the text (1 mins) + T lets them read the text individually T-Ss Ss individually Ss-Ss T-Ss + T has Ss take turn asking and answering in pair then play game + T checks answers as a class Post – Reading Task (textbook, p.9) Have SS reflect upon what has been read In Viet Nam, which jobs are in favour of boys? Have SS relate the text to their own knowledge, interests or opinions Consolidation and Homework - SS understand main points of the class - SS’ questions and doubts are explained - SS are clear about the homework and the T-SS; SS-SS (group work) ~10 + T asks Ss to work in pair to share their mins perspectives (5 mins) + T invites some students to share and discuss their opinion with the rest of the class (5 mins) + T uses questions to check whether SS get the grip of the lesson (the vocabulary, content of the reading) correctly and adequately T-Ss ~5 + T answer Ss’ questions and doubts mins + T gives SS the handouts as homework to revise all things learnt + T assigns SS to prepare for the next lesson required preparation for the next class - + Before ending, T opens Classdojo to give bonus points for SS who have contributed to the lesson List of ICT products: veed.io, h5p, ppt ... questions and doubts are explained - SS are clear about the homework and the T-SS; SS-SS (group work) ~10 + T asks Ss to work in pair to share their mins perspectives (5 mins) + T invites some students
