INTERNSHIP REPORT ATEN JOINT STOCK COMPANY

Under the recommendation of the English Faculty of Thuong Mai University, I had the opportunity to experience as an intern in the Aten Joint Stock Company. After one month (from September 20th, 2021 to October 15th, 2021), with the valuable support and enthusiastic instruction of managers and colleagues in the Company, I was able to apply the knowledge obtained at University into practice, meanwhile collecting basic information to complete the internship report. I would like to express my sincere thanks to my lecturers in the English Faculty of Thuong Mai University, along with staffs in Aten Joint Stock Company. PREFACE English has become a vital and mandatory communication language in Vietnam since the opening of its doors to the world in 1986 Many English-speaking foreigners from across Asia, Australia, America and Europe started coming to invest in Vietnam This has motivated the people of Vietnam to learn English to facilitate efficient and effective communication among their counterparts Completely change the situation of the starting point of learning English for Vietnamese people, starting with a standard pronunciation lesson so that the path of learning to speak English fluently can be shortened only from months to year The teaching of English in secondary and high schools strongly focus mainly on grammar, sentence structures and vocabulary In such a teaching format, conversational English was not taken into consideration In addition, English learning and teaching is purely examination-based Examinations were mainly grammar-focused As a result, the teachers and academicians teach only the bare necessity which is required to pass the examination and are not linked to the learning needs of individual students This has caused students to become demotivated because English is just another subject at school, not part of their life Many students eventually fail to see the importance and pride in being able to speak fluent English Aten Joint Stock company completely changes the situation of the learning English for Vietnamese people, starting with a standard pronunciation lesson so that the path of learning speaking English fluently can be shortened only from months to year AJSC trains the generation of young and talented Vietnamese people, contributing to making country’s education better by the dynamism and creative thinking for Vietnam to confidently integrate into the world Aten's mission is to "Bring THE PREEMINENT ENGLISH ENVIRONMENT” - more worthy of customer investment than any other Who else: Once invested - For everlasting values! support trainees in determining English proficiency and attending the course 1.3 Introduction about Planning and Training Department The Department is responsible for all information on classes, sections, subjects, syllabus and assign class routine section wise In Aten JSC, the Department plays an important role to help the company reach ultimate goals: • Planning the progress of works and monthly, quarterly and annual plans of the Company • Giving advise and assist the Board of Directors on the enrollment plan, enrollment organization, and teaching planning, building and proposing enrollment strategies and plans • Developing a training plan: training scale and industry; type of education; form of organization and management of training; etc • Training program, as well as the teaching staff on quality, modify the curriculum, • • change the method of teaching Teaching English for students of Aten Modify and edit the syllabus after the courses for the best quality PART 2: INTRODUCTION ABOUT INTERNSHIP PROCESS IN ATEN JOINT STOCK COMPANY 11 2.1 The tasks in internship process * Working time of the Company: 8.30 am – 5.30 pm AJSC is a center with a young and dynamic working environment with young staffs When joined to the training management division, all employees are friendly, open, and enthusiastic They have good qualifications, abilities, and skills in training management Everyone is close to age so it is easy to exchange and understand each other This was an opportunity for me to experience a real working environment, learn and familiarize myself with the business activities of the Company Specifically, I was responsible for the following tasks:  • Week 1: (from 20/09/2021 to 25/09/2021) Greeting, getting to know the staffs of the Company as well as presenting the • • •    General Director of the Company Reading documents related to the Company is given by my colleagues Understand and comply with the rules and regulations of the Company Arranging documents Week 2: (from 27/09/2021 to 01/10/2021) Sending documents to all students Examining feedback of learner’s study situation sent from Vietnamese teacher and      TA Combining information to arrange new teaching and TA calendar next week Send mail to all teachers and TAs in center Week 3: (from 03/10/2021 to 8/10/2021) Check Flashcards used in speaking test and CD or DVD used in listening test Make sure that the pupils you support are able to engage in learning and stay on       task during the lesson or activity Document student progress and communicate with parents to keep them informed Copy and delivery the documents to the others department Week 4: (from 10/10/2021 to 15/10/2021) Attend all training classes, parent conferences, and faculty meetings Help with school events, trips and activities Making sure that the pupils you support are able to engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity  Prepare new syllabus and new teaching plan, create new games and add necessary documentary for lessons 2.2 The experiences and the difficulties 12 During the internship process in AJSC, I encountered some following experiences and difficulties 2.2.1 The experiences After a month of internship process in the Aten JSC I have learned a lot of valuable lessons First of all, I must learn to adjust to the workplace environment and follow the company's tight standards I also learnt how to communicate and collaborate with a diverse set of people, which is a critical ability in the workplace Furthermore, the internship time gave me a chance to use my English and lessons studied at university in practice Through these activities, I see that the knowledge studied at university is just the theory, how to use it effectively in real life is the most important thing Moreover, through communicating in English with my colleagues and my students, my English skills have been improved significantly, I have known more specialized vocabulary This internship course has helped me become more confident in using English than before Thus, I learned many skills in the office such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, after one month of working, my skills have been improved greatly I knew how to make a complete report, wrote it clear and understandable; how to use printers, photocopies which I never knew before In addition, through finding a way to combine working and relaxing time, I learnt how to manage and invest my time Because of the nature of my employment, I am required to address a large number of problems each day and ensure that they are completed on schedule and without error Besides, I was taught how to deal with high pressure situations and avoid delays at work I have to labor all day to keep up with customers, especially when the company has a lot of orders Finally, working in Aten JSC, I become familiar with a modern, dynamic, and professional working environment in reality I have learned how to support pupils across a range of abilities as well as undertaking duties that free up a teacher's time, such as preparing the classroom and working exclusively with pupils with special educational needs or with those with other specific needs 13 2.2.2 The difficulties Besides the benefits I gained, I also realized that I encountered some difficulties during my internship  Lack of teaching skill and classroom management skill One of the biggest difficulties in this internship was the lack of teaching skills and classroom management skills I have faced during my time in the classroom is working with children with behavioral difficulties and hyperactivity, who find it very difficult to follow rules and stick to them Most of the time they refuse to the assigned tasks and cause disruption among the class or get involved in any sort of fight or exhibit rude behaviors towards me, teachers, and classmates When these situations happen I try to give them a time out in a different place or environment to think over their behaviors It is important that they understand why their behavior is being disruptive and its consequences Managing the children’s behavior and attitude can sometimes be a challenge I overcame this by reassuring them and advising them to have a positive attitude and respect other children as well as members of staff Worked with some very challenging young people who had experienced some very difficult situations for their ages I taught some lessons with some very challenging and sometimes potentially violent behaviors; using past experiences and the training offered to me by the school I was able to manage their behaviors It was probably the most difficult time for me in this internship  Lack of specialized vocabulary related Ietls : Another difficulties in this internship was the lack of specialized vocabulary related Ielts As the main and successful sector, the company requires a lot of knowledge related this field The way to use these specialized words is frequently every department in the company, and it is even harder for me to use by English As a result, my assignments were becoming more difficult in reality In the first time I completed the tasks, I made mistakes There were unpredictable situation that I could not solve because of the lack of real experience and essential vocabulary, that make the result of my work not to be good as my expectation Thanks to the internship course, I had got more opportunities to practice and improve these skills I had tried harder and had improved the vocabulary and information related to the 14 main sector of Aten, with the assistance of the manager and the help of other staffs I improved my specialized vocabulary It was probably the most difficult time for me in this internship  Job’s requirement I am a kind of person who is very good at adapting to new situations, so it took me a little time to accommodate myself to the company’s working environment However, this job requires a lot of speaking, communicating, and caring, so sometimes it makes me feel pressured and a bit tired with the tasks Besides, the company requires specialized vocabulary, so I had difficulty in understand what they mean That is the reason why I made some errors when doing the tasks As a result, it is quite difficult for me to complete duties connected to English, particularly documents, swiftly and accurately on my own  Time pressure After a day of work, I had to check the students' homework In addition, to the poor students, I have to spend extra time teaching in the evening, so I don't have time for myself I wish my day was longer so that I could spent time to my favorite things Sometimes, it seems like all my hobbies and my favorite things had to be put on hold, to the point where I almost forgot about them I also needed to meet with my friends to discuss my work Working in a professional setting requires me to constantly improve myself It is a significant challenge for undergraduates Sometimes I have to complete several tasks at once Moreover, I am still unfamiliar with the work, it takes me more than required 15 16 PART 3: THE REALITY OF THE USE OF ENGLISH IN ATEN JOINT STOCK COMPANY 3.1 The use of English in Aten Joint Stock Company Learning foreign languages has become a trend for any young person in over the world Because of just having the mother tongue, you may lose the opportunity to work in multinational companies and reduce the ability to compete directly with other candidates who are fluent in foreign languages About ten years ago, foreign language learning was only seen in regular classes at high schools under the guidance of Vietnamese teachers, focus too much on grammar, machinery, and learning Students regard studying a foreign language as "pain," which they quickly forget because it is not used in their daily lives However, Vietnam's economy has been gradually integrating with the global economy in recent years This necessitates a growing number of elements in the recruitment process Previously, you might acquire a job that suited your abilities after graduating from a particular school and holding a diploma in your hand However, English is no longer a top criterion for employers when hiring "Professional abilities may be learned in a month or two months," I've heard, "but being proficient at English takes a long time." Employers can spend up to two months educating experts if they are fluent in English Employers can train professionals for two months if they are fluent in English, but they cannot teach you English for one to two years if you simply have expertise In today's world, English plays a critical part in every business It is a critical component that provides more opportunities to grow the firm, find new investors and partners, and exploit new markets, all of which boost profitability and production efficiency Owing to job’s requirements, Planning & Training Department must always use English all the time to teach to students This Department is specializing in the field of English Therefore, people are also using English as a tool to communicate Employees use English to support their work Working on Aten Joint Stock company has many opportunities to use English Employees and teachers, TA of the center are trained to make plans, write emails, 17 communicate, improve the skill and correct the grammar mistake… Furthermore, I learned that knowing English is a significant benefit in expanding into new areas and gaining more opportunity to collaborate with more international partners throughout the world Furthermore, the workers in the Planning & Training Department can create and understand more about their subject, resulting in a more effective result for the organization In several nations around the world, they have greater opportunity to keep up with instructional trends Other departments have the opportunity to gain knowledge of foreign companies and markets, which they can use to their department's job Currently, almost all staff in the company in the company have good English proficiency At Aten, people can build a modern thinking foundation, practice life skills, and languages to reach the "big sea" globally However, the English level of employees varies from department to department Staff at other rooms only know how to read and write, and cannot communicate in English, and have poor English reflexes This causes some challenges in the working process For example, staff in the sales department can only read and understand specialized English but are not good at communicating, so sometimes they have difficulty with consulting courses that are suitable for students' levels These difficulties cause the company to reduce its image and reputation in the eyes of its students Furthermore, they made several errors, As a result, it is often difficult for individuals to perform assignments connected to English, particularly E documents, swiftly and accurately on their own To this end, there have many teams good at English in each division, specializing in training languages and skills through their regular actual surveys The surveys will then be examined through many steps and many periods 3.2 Some solutions to improve the use of English in the Company As can be seen, English is now a language for global business More and more large corporations in the world force their employees to use English, considering English as a corporate language But the process of building an English foundation for employees, key leaders, as well as changing the way businesses operate so that the policy of using English can be implemented is not easy at all Employees of the 18 organization should develop their English skills on a daily basis in order to adapt to the present economic climate Given the current state of English usage at the organization, all employees must be capable of not only reading and writing, but also hearing and speaking Thus, it is urgent to promptly draw up some plans to deal with the negative reality and enhance the efficiency of using English After one month of being an intern there in the Company, I would like to suggest several solutions aiming to raise the level of English used in the Company  Using a notebook or and writing down terms is also an effective way to learn specialized English vocabulary, such as finance, technology information, human resources, advertising, business administration, etc Keep a notebook and pocket dictionary with you Whenever you’re speaking to someone and hear others speaking and you catch the word you not fully understand, write it down and look it up  Using online applications to manage vocabulary This helps them learn vocabulary anywhere and helps improve their ability to remember new words  Reading is also a great way to increase industry vocabulary Read out loud then record it When you're by your lonesome, you have no reason to be nervous You can let your brain flow freely, so record yourself will be easier Then compare what you are saying to the correct pronunciation of words, and to the rhythm of native speakers You not need to sound exactly like a native speaker, but you can always improve through comparison and imitation Your English is going to be at its best  Or record yourself reading from a book You will be able to actually hear yourself and be able to pinpoint the quirks in your English and where you slow down and have trouble Then rerecord it and you will improve your English skill  The company can organize English presentation competitions aim to discuss about knowledge of products and services that the company businesses among employees every month This method not only can encourage the creation and motivation to work, expand product knowledge for employees, but also help to improve English speaking and speaking skills for employees  Listen to podcasts, and the news We live in such a digital age; even if you think you don't have native speakers at your disposal, you actually Scientific American, CBC, BBC and Australia's ABC Radio are great mp3s to get 19 started with, but there is also a million podcasts out there and handfuls of news stations, too And the best part is that these people generally speak clearly and have pretty generic accents  Narrate your world As you go about your day-to-day, talk to yourself What are you doing? What are you feeling? What you see, taste, smell, hear? What are you touching? What are you thinking? Try to describe everything around you in English This will help you create better English reflexes  Play any games in English to develop your subconscious language appreciation Repetitive games are addictive And when we stop playing, you continue thinking about them That is not always a good thing, of course, and too many games may not be good for you However, spending a bit of time on simple vocabulary, pronunciation, or even strategy games in English will help push the language deeper into your subconscious Before long you will start thinking in the language, and that is great for your oral skills: the ability to speak English fluently and confidently is now closer than before So, whether you are improving your English primarily for business or for social reasons, you can see that everything you practice does transfer Make sure you are trying the suggestions above to help quickly develop your speaking skills in English  In addition, the Company should also make conditions for staffs participating in sharing learning English experience workshops organized by the units in the country and abroad  The managers can use policies to help employees believe in their ability to develop English proficiency, providing opportunities for them to improve their foreign language skills  The company should organize some conferences, conventions, trade shows and training events for all types of professional activities Making not only the opportunity for learning new things for staffs in company, but also to network in English with other colleagues and potential business partners  To examine the credentials of the staff, the company should recruit people with TOEIC 700 or IELTS 6.0 or higher instead of TOEIC 500 20 PART 4: SUGGESTION FOR THE SUBJECT OF GRADUATION THESIS English is very important, this is for sure Its position not only comes from the statistics of the number of English speakers, with 400 million native speakers and over 1.6 billion people speaking English as a second language But it also manifests itself in the role of the official language in the field of politics, diplomacy, business, or tourism Not counting businesses with global factors, most of the trading companies in big cities in Vietnam have very frequent cross-border transactions So, in addition to the existing job skills, if you have the ability to use English, it is very easy to find jobs with high income For Vietnam, a country that is in front of an era of development, we see the importance of English With students, pupils, and future generations of the country, learning English becomes more and more necessary than ever In our country, studying English from elementary school until university, not mention extra classes at English centers, many students who apply for jobs not meet the requirements on English skills and communication skills To learn more about this issue, I propose a research subject for my graduation thesis: “How to improve English speaking skill for the first/second year English major students at Thuong Mai University.” I sincerely expect my teacher consider and help me in the process of doing the thesis 21 CONCLUSION In the current situation, the fact to get the desired job in all fields is indispensable for one of the "prerequisites" that is to have a foreign language English This has also contributed to the promotion of teaching and learning foreign languages at universities and colleges, which have always become "hot", especially in recent years Since then, innovations in composing books, textbooks, teaching and learning methods have been constantly implemented in order to improve the foreign language proficiency of students so that after graduation, with specialized knowledge The field of study combined with a foreign language will help students easily find jobs, meet the rigorous requirements of many employers Learning English is important because it contributes to bringing Vietnamese people into the world culture Good English also helps learners more easily get jobs and opportunities in life, especially in today's global trade During one month working in Aten Joint Stock Company, I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge obtained at University into reality and learn more about styles, attitudes, working methods, communication in a business environment, and generating valuable experiences that help me give out the clear direction for my future career These valuable experiences have helped me to give out a clear orientation for my future career Once again, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all lecturers at Thuong Mai University who have taught and provided me extremely useful knowledge so that I could apply it to practice; colleagues of the Plan - Project Department as well as other departments of the Company have devotedly helped me to accomplish this report Hanoi, October 15th, 2021 Student Phan Thi Ngoc Hai 22 REFERENCE https://aten.edu.vn https://hosocongty.vn/cong-ty-co-phan-aten-com-592368.htm
