Pentium II 400 ! Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) 2.1 bus ! 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM ! 4-gigabyte (GB) hard disk ! 256-kilobyte (KB) Level (L2) cache ! A digital video disc (DVD) drive ! Network adapter 10/100 Mb/s required (do not use Industry Standard Architecture [ISA] bus) ! 4-MB video adapter ! Super VGA (SVGA) monitor (17 inch) ! Microsoft Mouse or compatible input device ! Read through all setup procedures ! Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials compact disc that is provided with the course materials Estimated time to set up the classroom: hours Time will vary based on the number of computers Classroom Setup Guide Computer Setup Procedures Use the following instructions to set up classroom computers ! Set up the hardware Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions (For more information on hardware, see “Hardware Requirements” earlier in this section.) Configure the hard disk as follows: • Drive C: 4-GB formatted as FAT (file allocation table) ! Install Windows 2000 Advanced Server Tip To increase the speed of installation, run SMARTDrive 5.0 or a later version prior to running the Windows 2000 Server setup program Smartdrv.exe is a utility that ships with Microsoft MS-DOS version 6.22 Insert the Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD in the CD-ROM drive If Setup starts, skip to step Open an MS-DOS command prompt window Move to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM, type winnt and then press ENTER Windows 2000 Server files will be copied to the hard disk Install Windows 2000 Server, typing the correct information when prompted Use the parameters listed in the following table Use defaults or information that pertains to your computer or location When prompted by: Use: Partition Install on the C drive File system Use NTFS Allow Windows 2000 to convert the drive to NTFS from FAT Regional settings Enter your regional information Personalize your software Enter your name and the name of your organization Product key Enter your product key, if required Licensing modes Per server; five concurrent connections Computer name Use the instructor computer name for Instructor Use the student computers name for StudentXX, where XX is the number of the student computer Administrator password Set to password Windows 2000 components Add NNTP Service, found in the details for Internet Information Services (IIS) Date and time settings Use today’s date and time 6 Classroom Setup Guide When prompted by: Use: Networking settings Select Custom Settings, click Next, and then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Click Properties IP address See the Classroom Configuration table earlier in this section Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Preferred DNS server Use the IP address for the computer Workgroup and computer domain Click Next The default selection is No, this computer is not on a network, or is in a network without a domain Completing Windows 2000 Setup Wizard Remove the CD and click Finish ! Install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter If your computer is not connected to a network, install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter If your computer is connected to a network go to the next procedure, Configure Active Directory™ Open up Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Hardware Click Next in the Welcome to the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard dialog box Select Add/Troubleshoot a device, and then click Next In the Choose a Hardware Device dialog box, select Add a new device, and then click Next In the Find New Hardware dialog box, select No, I want to select the hardware from a list, and then click Next In the Hardware Type dialog box, select Network adapters, and then click Next In the Select Network Adapter dialog box, on Manufactures, select Microsoft On Network Adapter, select Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and then click Next In the Add/Remove Hardware dialog box, click Next 10 Click Finish Classroom Setup Guide ! Configure Active Directory In the Configure Your Server window, click Active Directory Scroll to the bottom of the window and click Start the Active Directory Wizard Use the following table to complete the Active Directory Wizard process Note If you are installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server over a network, during the Active Directory installation you might be prompted for the Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD Indicate the network location of the files to continue Dialog box Default setting Welcome to the Active Directory Installation Wizard Action Click Next Domain Controller Type Domain controller for a new domain Click Next Create Tree or Child Domain Create a new domain tree Click Next Create or Join Forest Create a new forest of domain trees Click Next New Domain Name Type the full DNS name (DomainXX.msft where XX represents the machine number) You should type the domain name that matches the computers name listed earlier in Classroom Configuration section of this manual.) Install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 Run the service pack executable file Proceed with the installation of the service pack Use the default settings in every dialog box Restart computer when prompted ! Configure file-viewing settings Double-click My Computer on the Desktop, select Tools, and then select Folder Options Select the View tab Click Show hidden files and folders under Hidden files and folders Deselect Hide file extensions for known file types Deselect Hide protected operating system files Click Yes Click Apply then click Like Current Folder Click Yes when prompted to set all folder views with the current settings Click OK Quit My Computer ! Configure display settings Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab Use the slider to configure the screen area to 800 by 600 pixels Click OK Click OK when notified that Windows will apply the new settings Click Yes to accept changes Click OK to close Display Properties Classroom Setup Guide ! Install Exchange Server 2000 Run Setup The Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server Wizard appears Use the following table to complete the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server Wizard process Dialog box Default setting Action Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server Click Exchange Server Setup If the CD does not start with the autorun option, run launch.exe on the Exchange 2000 CD Welcome to the Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Installation Wizard Click Next End-User License Agreement Click I agree and then click Next Product Identification Enter a correct CD key and then click Next Component Selection Typical Click Next Installation Type Create a new Exchange Organization Click Next Organization Name First Organization Click Next Licensing Agreement Click I agree and then click Next Component Summary Click Next A message box identifies your domain as insecure for mail-enabled groups with hidden DL memberships Click OK This portion of the installation takes about an hour Completing the Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Installation Wizard Click Finish Note If your facility has more than one classroom, assign a unique Organization Name to each computer on your intranet 10 Classroom Setup Guide ! Install Visual Studio 6.0, Enterprise Edition Insert the Visual Studio 6.0 CD If Autorun does not run, start Setup.exe from the root of the CD On the Installation Wizard, click Next On the End User License Agreement page, select I accept the agreement, if you accept the terms of the agreement and then click Next On the Product Number and User ID page, enter the CD key for your copy of Microsoft Visual Studio; enter your name, and your company name Then click Next On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition page, select Custom and then click Next On the Choose Common Install Folder page, accept the default folder location and then click Next In the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Setup window, click Continue In the Product ID dialog box, click OK 10 From the list of components, select the following names: • Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 • Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0 • ActiveX • Data Access • Enterprise Tools • Tools 11 Click Continue 12 Setup installs Visual Studio 13 When prompted, click Restart Windows; leave the CD-ROM in the drive 14 When Windows restarts, log in as Administrator 15 On the Install MSDN page, select Install MSDN and then click Next 16 Insert Disk of the MSDN Library Click OK on the Locate Microsoft Developer Network Disk dialog box 17 In the MSDN Library window, click Continue 18 Click OK to confirm the Product ID 19 Click I Agree on the License Agreement page 20 Click Custom on the MSDN Installation page to install the following components: • Full Text Search Index • VB Documentation • VID Documentation • VS Shared Documentation 21 When asked to create a shortcut, click Yes 22 Insert the remaining MSDN disks, when prompted Classroom Setup Guide 11 23 When the MSDN Library setup completion message is displayed, click OK 24 Register your copy of MSDN and Visual Studio 25 On the Other Client Tools page, not select any of the tools listed under Client Tools, and then click Next 26 On the Server Setups page, select Launch BackOffice Installation Wizard Click Install 27 Select Custom and click Next 28 In the Disk Space Requirements dialog, click Next 29 Select the following options: • Remote Machine Debugging • Visual Interdev Server 30 In the confirmation dialog box, click Next 31 When the installation is complete, click Finish 32 When prompted to restart the system, click Yes 33 After the computer restarts, the Installation Wizard for Visual Studio dialog box appears Click Next 34 Register Visual Studio 35 Click Finish ! Apply Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack • Run the service pack executable file from the Visual Studio Service Pack CD Use the default setting in every dialog box You will be prompted to restart the computer Restart the computer ! Install Outlook 2000, Excel 2000, and FrontPage 2000 • Using either Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition or the stand-alone retail version of each product, run Setup, select Typical as the installation type, and then use the default values supplied by the wizard ! Install Workflow Designer for Exchange 2000 • Run exchwfd.msi, located under the Setup folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc Use default values supplied by the wizard ! Install Web Storage System Software Development Kit • Run wss_sdk.msi, located under the Setup folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc Use default values supplied by the wizard ! Install Web Storage System Tools • Run wss_tools.msi, located under the Setup folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc Use default values supplied by the wizard 12 Classroom Setup Guide ! Install Microsoft XML Notepad • Run xpsetup.exe located under the Setup folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc Use the default options supplied by the wizard ! Install PowerPoint 97 Viewer, fonts, and slides (on the instructor computer only) Run the PPView97.exe that is located in the Pptview folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc Run the Courseware.exe that is located in the Fonts folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc Run the Slides.exe that is located in the Webfiles\Downloads folder of the Trainer Materials compact disc ! Configure Internet Explorer Double-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop On the Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard, select I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN), and then click Next In the Setting up your Internet connection dialog, select I connect through the local area network (LAN), and click Next In the Local area network Internet configurations dialog, clear all the options, and then click Next In the Set up your Internet Mail Account dialog, select No, and then click Next Click Finish Internet Explorer starts Click Tools and Internet Options Click Use Blank on Home Page, and then click OK !
