Dependencies on Windows 2000 Components ! Extending Active Directory Before you install Exchange 2000 should understand the extent to which Exchange 2000 depends on Windows 2000 and Active Directory BETA MATERIALS FOR MICROSOFT CERTIFIED TRAINER PREPARATION PURPOSES ONLY Module 2: Installing Microsoft Exchange 2000 Dependencies on Windows 2000 Components Topic Objective To identify the dependencies of Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 and Active Directory Active Directory Lead-in Exchange 2000 Exchange 2000 Exchange 2000 is an application based on Windows 2000 that integrates with the domain security model provided by Windows 2000 IIS NNTP IIS NNTP Windows 2000 Server Exchange 2000 is dependent on several Windows 2000 services Although some of these services are included in a typical installation of Windows 2000, you will need to select others for installation during or after the setup of Windows 2000 Server Active Directory Computers running Windows 2000 Server that host Exchange 2000 must be part of an Active Directory domain All computers running Exchange 2000 in the same Exchange 2000 organization will also be in the same Active Directory forest There can only be one Exchange 2000 organization per Active Directory forest If you are installing a server running Exchange 2000 into an Exchange Server 5.5 site, the Exchange 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC) must be installed and running before you install Exchange 2000 During installation, the Exchange 2000 Setup program confirms whether the Exchange 2000 ADC has been installed by checking the configuration partition of Active Directory Note There are two versions of the ADC—one that comes with Windows 2000 and another that comes with Exchange 2000 The Windows 2000 version of the ADC does not support Exchange 2000 coexistence with Exchange Server 5.5 IIS Because Internet Information Services (IIS) provides all of the Internet message transport protocols for Exchange 2000, IIS is a very important Windows 2000 component The protocols that IIS provides by default, such as Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), are extended by Exchange 2000 Setup to support the advanced features of Exchange 2000 Other protocols, such as Post Office Protocol version (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol version (IMAP4), are added to IIS when you install Exchange 2000 BETA MATERIALS FOR MICROSOFT CERTIFIED TRAINER PREPARATION PURPOSES ONLY Module 2: Installing Microsoft Exchange 2000 Note MAPI is not a message transport protocol and is not provided by IIS MAPI clients connect directly to the Information Store NNTP The Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) must also be installed on all computers running Windows 2000 that will host Exchange 2000 NNTP is an optional component included with Windows 2000 During Windows 2000 Setup, you can choose to install NNTP during the networking phase of Setup by selecting the optional component under Internet Information Services You can also add NNTP to a Windows 2000 installation after setup is complete by using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel If NNTP is not installed you will not be able to install Exchange 2000 The Exchange 2000 Setup program will issue a warning and exit NNTP is required because Exchange 2000 uses NNTP to access public folders on NNTP hosts BETA MATERIALS FOR MICROSOFT CERTIFIED TRAINER PREPARATION PURPOSES ONLY 26 Module 2: Installing Microsoft Exchange 2000 Deploying Administrative Tools Topic Objective To identify the tools that can be used to configure Exchange 2000 and their utility Lead-in You can configure Exchange System Exchange System Manager Manager Active Directory Active Directory Users and Computers Users and Computers Active Directory Active Directory Users and Computers Users and Computers You can configure a server running Exchange 2000 using Exchange System Manager However, to manage Exchange 2000 recipients, you need to use Active Directory Users and Computers because Exchange 2000 recipients are Active Directory objects Active Directory Users and Computers You can use Active Directory Users and Computers to manage Active Directory users, groups, and computers Active Directory Users and Computers is installed on computers running Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Professional However, to manage Exchange 2000 recipients, you must install the Exchange 2000 System Management Tools on these computers After you install the Exchange 2000 System Management Tools on the computers that you want to use to manage Active Directory, you can mail-enable users and groups Important You must install Exchange System Manager on any server or workstation that you intend to use to manage Exchange 2000 recipients using Active Directory Users and Computers Exchange System Manager Exchange System Manager is a snap-in for Microsoft Management Console (MMC) It is installed as part of Exchange 2000 when you select the Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools component Exchange System Manager is the main tool used for managing an Exchange organization You can also install this snap-in on other computers running Windows 2000 on your network This means that you can run Exchange System Manager from computers that are not running Exchange 2000, including computers running Windows 2000 Professional BETA MATERIALS FOR MICROSOFT CERTIFIED TRAINER PREPARATION PURPOSES
