T lets Ss listen to T sang the song Happy New Year and asks them to answer the following questions

1 What is the title of the song ? When people often sing it ? 3 What is it about ?

T asks them to work in pairs to answer the questions

- T gives comments and feedback

- Today we will read a passage about Tet holiday

- Pair work and whole class

- Ss give answers in front of the class

Suggested answers : 1 Happy New Year

2 It is often sung at the last days of the old year and at the beginning of New Year 3 It is about feelings about the old year and the New Year

Activity 2 II Before you read 10’

Discussing Tet holiday

T asks Ss the whole class to look at the picture and discuss the three questions in pairs

- T walks around the class to offer help - T calls on some Ss to present their answers and elicits comments from otherSs

1 It is Spring and it should be Tet holiday because we can see the apricot blossom and a kumquat tree full of ripe fruits

2 The people in the picture may be a family The grandmother is giving her niece and nephew some lucky money The girl, the boy and their parents may be wishing their grand parents good health and happiness.

3 In the picture we can also see a five – fruit tray on the ancestral altar and a dish of fruits , a tray of candied fruits and a trung cake on the table
