I Objective

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate the sound of the letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the coresponding words

2 Skill

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing 3 Attitude

- Encourage Ss to consolidate the sound of the letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the coresponding words

II Teaching aids

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant III Method

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work,group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, correct teacher, act out… IV Procedures

2A Monday, April 26th 2021 2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Guess

- Choose some phonics cards from Units - 13 - T divides the class into groups, A and B

- T pass one card in each group (from the first row to the last row)

- Say: Stop! The students holding the cards must say the name of the item - Keep passing the first card and pass the second card to each group

- Say: Stop! The students holding the cards must say the name of the item 3 New lesson (30’)

Activity Listen Read along(8’)

- (book closed) Tell the Ss that it’s story time - Ask them if they like reading stories and what their favourite storybook character is - Prepare phonics cards of these word: watch, yo –yo, box, van, zebra.

- Ask the students to read out the words - Invite students to guess what they think the story is about

- Ask the students to look at the book

- Ask them questions about what they can see

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the watch in picture 1) Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s a) watch!

Teacher: (pointing to the watch in picture I like my…

Class: watch! etc

- Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the key words

- Play the CD again pausing for the Ss to repeat

- Ask individual students to read the story aloud

Activity What’s in the box? Draw and colour (8’)

- Point and elicit the items

- Ask the students to choose the correct item and draw it in the box

- Explain to them that they can use any colour they like to colour the item.`

Activity 1: Act Out (4’)

- Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words and invite the students to mime them (the watch, the yo-yo, the box, the van, the zebra)

- Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story

- Encourage them to have fun as they perform Activity 2: Optional Story Time Activities

- Ask the students to work in pairs

- Ask them to change parts or all the story - Invite some pairs to present their own stories

e.g Student 1: I like my (violin)! etc Activity: Draw it( 4’)

- Ask the Ss to choose their favourite animal or object from the story and draw it

- Ask them to decorate it

Activity: Stand and Sit

- T asks the students to listen for words that begin with e.g the /Vv/ sound. - Ask the students to stand up when they hear words beginning with /Vv/ sound and sit when they hear words begin with other sound

- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to make it more fun 3 New lesson (30’)

- T explains the activity

- The Ss say the names of the items and their beginning sounds

- Ask them to colour the corresponding letter - Go around the class to provide any

Activity 2: Look and tick (ü)(8’)

- T explains the activity

- Ask the students to tick the letters that correspond to the pictures

- Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual Ss to say out the sounds

- Ask the class to say out the name of each item and the correct letter of each one

Activity 3: Say the word Circle the ones that begin with the same sound(5mins)

- T explain the activity

- Ask the students to say the words for each picture

- Then ask them to circle the ones that begin with the same sound

- Go around the class to provide any necessary help

Activity 3: Listen and circle (Track 87)

(5mins)

- T elicit the names of the items - T play the CD

- The students listen and circle the correct picture

- Listen, pause, ask Ss to repeat the item they hear

Activity: Run and Touch(6’)

- T divide the class into two teams, make lines

- T put up the phonics cards on the board - Say the word Two students, one from each team, race to touch the cards

- The team with more points wins the game
