(1)Pre : 10.03.2013 Tea: 21.03.2013 UNIT 13: FILMS AND CINEMA D WRITING Week: 10 Period: 85 I/ OBJECTIVES: Educational aim: To help Students will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a film they have seen, based on prompts Knowledge: Helps Ss to write a passage about their favourite film Skills: Write a descriptive paragraph about a film II/ METHOD: Mainly communication III/ TEACHING AIDS: Textbook, pictures, handouts (slips of paper) IV/ PROCEDURE: Checking attendance The new lesson Contents - Teacher’s & Students’ activities WARM UP: (5’) Look at the picture What film is it from? Did you see it? What is it about? What are the main characters of the film? T: Shows a picture of an actor and asks Sts some questions: PRE – WRITING (15’) TASK 1: * Vocabulary: - tragic (adj) that makes you very sad, especially because it involves death - luxury (n) great comfort - liner (n) a large ship that carries people, etc long distances - voyage (n) a long journey by sea or on space - base sth on sth (phr v) (Translation) - engaged (adj) having agreed to get married - fall in love (exp) (Translation) * Suggested answer: The Titanic It’s a tragic love story It’s about the sinking of a luxury liner It is set in America It is based on the true story of the Titanic disaster that occurred in 1912 The main characters are Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater Jack Dawson is a young and generous adventurer who saves Rose Dewitt Bukater from killing herself They fall in love with each other, although Rose Dewitt Bukater is already engaged The film has a sad ending Lop10.com T: Asks Sts to read the description of the film Titanic, and then answer the questions given T: Explains the meanings of some new words T: Asks Sts to find the answers to the given questions T: Goes round to offer help when necessary T: Asks Sts to compare their answers with a partner T: Asks Sts to answer the questions aloud in front of the class (2) WHILE WRITING (15’) * Writing sample : The Secret Garden is the film I have seen recently It is a moving film It is about the love of parents for their children The film is set in England It is based on the true classic story The main characters are Kolin and Mary They are completely neglected by their parents and left to be raised by their nannies Kolin’s father grief for his wife’s death grew in such a way that it ruined his relationship with his son Mary is the niece of Kolin’s father, who saved Kolin’s life Finally, Kolin’s father understood the love for him The film has a happy ending POST WRITING (7’) T: Asks Sts to write about a film they have seen, using the description of Titanic and the questions above as suggestions T: Goes round to offer help when necessary T: Collects some writings and corrects mistakes in front of the class T: Writes Ss' typical errors on the board and elicits self and peer correction T: provides correction only when Ss aren't able to correct the errors - Gives general comments on the paragraphs Homework (3’) T: Asks Sts to complete their writings at home Lop10.com (3)
