(1)Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 114 : Preparation date :31 /3/2008 Unit 14: Lesson : Space Conquest-listening I Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for specific information - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for general idea II Lexical items : -diverse -integrity -candidate III Structures : -Psychological health was even more important IV Teaching aids: - textbook - CD player - Sheet of paper - chalk an board - cards - Handouts V Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) VI Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard warmGames: ‘What’s he like?’ up - Divide the class into tow groups A and B (7’) -Show SS a picture of a person and ask them who he is ( Appendix ) ( expected : Yuri Gagarin) -Tell the groups to write down as many sentences as possible about Yuri Gagarin – who he was, what he was like - The group with more correct sentences about him wins the game -Set a time limit and let SS start the game -Read the groups’sentences and check with the class -Declare the winner - Transition:-‘Yuri was an astronaut What you think an astronaut must be like? What are some requirements of astronauts?’ The listening today is about how astronauts are selected - write down on the board : Unit 14: Space Conquest- Listening PreBrainstorming (task a, p 194) +marquee = a large tent used at listening social events - Tell SS to work in small groups (7’) -Ask SS to read the phrases in task a and check + Ball = a big formal party the things that are required of astronauts with dance -Ask SS to add more things that they think are required of astronauts Astronauts good health integrity -Elicit from SS the countries that have developed space exploration ( Expected: the USA, Russian, China, and Japan.)
