-Câu tường thuật loại câu thuật lại lời nói người khác dạng gián tiếp -Khi chuyển từ lời nói trực tiếp sang gián tiếp cần lưu ý số vấn đề sau: + Nếu động từ tường thuật (reporting verb) chia giữ nguyên (tense) động từ chính, đại từ định trạng từ nơi chốn trạng từ thời gian câu trực tiếp chuyển sang gián tiếp
Eg:
- He says: “I’m going to Ha Noi next week.”
⇒ He says he is going to Ha Noi next week
+ Nếu động từ tường thuật (reporting verb) câu khứ phải lùi động từ khứ bậc chuyển từ lời nói trực tiếp (direct speech) sang lời nói gián tiếp (indirect / reported speech) theo quy tắc sau:

+ Một số động từ không thay đổi chuyển sang lời nói gián tiếp : would => would, could => could, might => might, should => should, ought to => ought to
+ Khi chuyển từ lời nói trực tiếp sang gián tiếp mà động từ tường thuật khứ Các trạng từ thời gian nơi chốn đại từ định chuyển đổi theo quy tắc sau:
