1 Relative clauses (Revision): (Mệnh đề quan hệ)
- Mệnh đề quan hệ phần câu, bao gồm nhiều từ hay có cấu trúc câu Mệnh đề quan hệ dùng để giải thích rõ danh từ đứng trước
Ex: The woman who is wearing the T-shirt is my girlfriend. - Đại từ quan hệ: who, whom, whose, which, …
2 Omission of relative pronouns (Lược bỏ đại từ quan hệ):
- Lược bỏ đại từ quan hệ lược từ “who, whom, which, …” đại từ quan hệ.
- Đại từ quan hệ lược bỏ làm tân ngữ phía trước khơng có dấu phẩy, khơng có giới từ (whose không bỏ)
Ex: This is the book which I buy.
Ta thấy which tân ngữ (chủ ngữ “I”, động từ “buy”), phía trước khơng có dấu phẩy hay giới từ nên bỏ “which” đi.
This is the book I buy
*Notes: Không lược bỏ đại từ quan hệ mệnh đề chứa dấu phẩy có giới từ phía trước đại từ - This is my book, which I bought years ago ( Mệnh đề có chứa dấu phẩy)
- This is the house in which I live (Mệnh đề có giới từ đứng trước đại từ quan hệ)
- This is the man who lives near my house ( “who” chủ ngữ mệnh đề quan hệ không thể lược bỏ)
