I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - practice the sound of the letter Nn and the corresponding words - learn and practice reading skills

- sing a song

II.Vocabulary: nut, net, nest III Sight words: look, a, in, and

IV Methods: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals.

V Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the song VI Organization:

Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content

* Warm up (5’): “Touching game” - Put up the nut, nest,net on the board - Line up Ss into teams of Ss

- Call a student from each team to stand 1m from the board - T reads one of the three words out loud and the student must run to tap the card of that word

- The student who taps the correct card first will get point for his/her team

- Give feedback

* Presentation and Practice:

1 Listen Read along(10’) (Track 5):

- T encourages Ss point to the picture and say out the words - T plays the CD Have Ss listen and point to the story - Read the story Ss follow the story in their books

- Have Ss work in pairs One reads while the other one checks and then they swap roles

- T points and say the sight words Have Ss listen and repeat

- Time permitting Have some Ss read them aloud => Activity: Competition (3 mins)

- T gives instruction: Line up Ss into groups

2 Song(10’) - P.72 (Track 6):

- Put up the nut, net, nest phonics cards on the board T points and have Ss repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song Play the CD

- Ask Ss to take out their own picture cards and place them on their desks

- Play the CD again Ss listen and hold up the corresponding picture cards

* Production(10’): Memory game - Put the phonics cards on the board

- Ask Ss to memorize the order of these cards

- Ask Ss to close their eyes, T removes one phonic card randomly and asks individual Ss to name it

- Continue changing the order cards

- Remember to correct Ss’ pronunciation throughout the lesson

* Warm up(5’): “Who is quickest person ?” and singing. - Ask Ss to open their notebooks T explains the game: Ss will have two minutes to write as many Nn as they can The winner is the person who has written the most

- Have Ss listen to the previous song (Track 6) Have Ss listen and sing along

* Presentation and Practice(10’):

1 Circle the things that begin with the n Say the n words. - Show the picture and run through them

- Elicit the words that begin with n - Let Ss to circle these items

- Go around the class providing any necessary help

=> Activity: Work in pairs: Have Ss work in pairs to check their answers

- Call Ss to give the answer then T checks

2 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the “n” sound Say the “n” words. (Track 7)

T shows the “nose” phonics card Point to it and say: “/n/ -nose Have Ss repeat

- Mime trying to keep your balance and say: “/n/ - nose. Encourage Ss to the same T says the letter, Ss perform the action and say the letter and the word if they can Play the CD, Ss listen, point to and repeat the word

- Point to the pictures and have Ss named them

- Allow Ss some minutes to colour the pictures of the words that start with the /æ/ sound T goes around the classroom providing any necessary help

=> Activity: Craftwork:

- Provide Ss with some card stock paper Alternatively, ask them to bring some from the previous lesson

- Ask Ss to choose one of the words Have them draw the letter A on the paper Have Ss decorate the letter so that it represents the word they have chosen

- When they finish, they present their letters to the class

Display their work in the classroom * Production(10’): Hunt.

- Hide the phonics cards around the classroom Divide the class into teams: A and B

- Write the following table on the board for each team

- Play the song (track 6) In teams Ss have to hunt the phonics cards depicting the words in their column As they find them, they cross out the word on the board The first team to fin all its words before the end of the song is the winner
