LESSON : COMMUNICATION (P 31) A OBJECTIVES:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about the ethnic groups of Viet Nam

+ Vocabulary: Northeast, Northwest, Southern, red river deltal, central highlands + Grammar:

- Skills: Practice and develop speaking,listening and writing skills

- Political thought and moral sense: helps students know more about ethnic groups of Viet Nam

B TEACHING AIDS:

- Textbook, teacher’s book, lesson plan, board, chalks,the projector, and computer C METHODS: quiz, discussion, groupwork, chatting.

D CONTENTS: I Organization: - Greeting

- Number of students

II Revision/ Warmer (5’) Chatting

- T shows Ss the pictures on p.31- Ss’ books - Let Ss look carefully and answer the questions:

+ What can you see in the picture? + Where ethnic groups often live? + Can you see terraced field in the picture?

+ What most ethnic peoples in Viet nam live on ? - T collects Ss’ answers

Activity : Quiz (8’)

- T runs through all the sentences

- Let Ss work in pairs This should be a speaking activity, so encourage Ss to talk with fluency and accuracy, and as naturally as possible

- While Ss their task, T goes around to monitor the whole class - T corrects and gives explaination

- foods - festivals/ ceremonies - marriage/ weddings - T gives some facts or show pictures to facilitate the activities

Costumes: short blouses, long skirts, scarves, ornaments They are unique, strong and colourful

UNIT 3: PEOPLES OF VIET NAM LESSON : SKILLS ( P 32 ) A OBJECTIVES:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read for general and specific a passage about the life of an ethnic group and talk about the life of ethnic groups + Vocabulary: dig,canal, burn-out land, ancestor

+ Grammar:

- Political thought and moral sense: help Ss explore and understand more about the life of an ethnic group

Oganization:

- Greeting - Number of students

II Revision / Warmer: (5’) Chatting:

- T shows Ss the pictures on p.32- Ss’ books

+ Where the Thai people live? + What is their population?

- Then calls on Ss to read the questions from exercise aloud

- As the Ss read the questions aloud, T reminds the rest of the Ss to think about what the answer will be, without looking at the text

- T gives Ss time to discuss questions in pairs

- T encourages Ss to make guesses if they are not sure III New lesson:

1- Reading(20’)

*Activity 1: Read the passage and check your answer ( part 1- 32) - T asks Ss to read the text and underline any words they don’t know - T may let Ss read in chorus once

- Then, call on some individuals to read aloud to the class - T checks their pronunciation and intonation

- Let Ss read the passage again and and the task T checks the answer as a class Key: 1.farmer 2.bamboo 3.stilt 4.songs 5.ceremonies

* Activity 3: Answer the questions.( part 3- p 32)

- T asks Ss to read the passage again and answer the questions - Ss can ask and answer in pairs

- T checks the answers as a class Key: Yes, they do.

Their main food is rice.

It is well-known for being unique, colourful and strong. Thai women do.

They worship their ancestors. 2- Speaking(15’)

* Activity Read some facts about the Bru- Van Kieu people and the Khmer people and talk about it ( part 4- p.32)

- T divides the class into two groups, each preparing to talk about one ethnic group - Otherwise, Ss may work in pairs; each of them talk about one ethnic group

- T goes around to assist is necessary Then ask some volunteers to present to the rest of the class

* Activity 2.Discussion( part 5- p.32)

- T asks Ss to talk about their own ethnic group

- T may ask them to focus on one or two aspects such as clothing, food, ways of living, customs and traditions, festivals, beliefs, etc

- T can also encourage Ss to talk about changes in the life of their people over time

UNIT 3: PEOPLES OF VIET NAM LESSON 6: SKILLS (P 32)

A OBJECTIVES:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to listen for specific information about a traditional dish and write a recipe for a traditional dish

+ Vocabulary: sympolize, recipe, turmeric, element, harmony

+ Grammar: present simple, signposting the cooking steps: first, then, next, After that, finally

- Skills: develop and practice listening and writing skills

- Political thought and moral sense: help Ss understand more about traditional dish of ethnic minorities

B TEACHING AIDS:

- Textbook, teacher’s book, lesson plan, board, chalks, posters and pictures, cassette and the CD record, Projector

C.METHODS :- Chatting, open - predictions, listen and check, T/ F, complete the sentences and write it up

* Activity 1: Listen and decide T/F statements ( part – p.33) - T and WC runs through the statements

- T checks if Ss know the word” element, harmony”

- Let Ss listen to the tape then decide which sentence is T or F.( twice) - Ss listen individually then compare with their partners

- T gets Ss’ answers then corrects

* Activity 3: Listen and complete the sentences ( part 3- p.33): - T runs through the sentences by asking them to read the sentences - T plays the recording

- Let Ss listen and decide what word to fill in the gaps

B Writing( 20’)

*Activity 1: Read the notes carefully: ( part 4- p.33) - T tells Ss to read the notes carefully

*Activity 2: Writing:( part 5- p.33)

- Let Ss work in groups of 5, use the notes about the traditional dish to write full sentences to show the steps to cook the rice

- T makes sure that they use proper connectors first,firstly/ second, secondly/ and pay attention to spelling and punctuation

- T may collect some Ss’writing papers and mark them, then give comments to the class

- If there is not enough time to write in class, T can assign as homework + Sample writing:

The delicious dish is really easy to make First, you need to soak the rice in water for at least five hours Then rinse the rice and drain it well Next, add the turmeric extract and mix it well Then wait for 10 minutes After that, add the coconut and salt Remember to mix it well.Finally, steam the rice for about 30 minutes Check that it is fully cooked You can serve this dish with chicken.
