SUMMARY OF NEW CONCLUSIONS OF THE DISSERTATION Doctoral Candidate: Nguyen Thi Loan Dissertation title: The acculturation in Design Art of Vietnamese Women’s Ao Dai from 1930s until 2017 Major: Theory and History of Fine Arts Code: 9210101 Scientific Supervisor: Assoc Prof Dr Doan Thi Tinh and Dr Tran Thuy Binh Institution: Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies New conclusions of the dissertation Ao Dai is the product of aesthetic thinking and good creative ideas associated with real life, needs, and the taste of Vietnamese women Therefore, the design art of Ao Dai for Vietnamese women is not affected by long dresses of Cham women or Chinese’s cheongsam traditional dress The design art of Ao Dai has undergone times of acquisitions and changes For each time, Ao Dai has receptive toward creative thinking ideas based on the development of science and technology, weaving techniques, decorations, and printing techniques…especially receiving the costume design methods into the designs of Ao Dai As the results, Ao Dai have been changed with variety of styles, colors, fabric materials, and suitable in decoration to the culture and aesthetics of contemporary Vietnamese women The cross-cultural has impacted to the thinking and aesthetics perspectives of consumers in the society The common models within its traditional narrow range in the community is now replaced by products of Ao Dai with personality traits, giving prominence of ego with a dynamic and healthy beauty of modern women The design art of Vietnamese Ao Dai has been strongly affected by the process of cultural interference, and acculturation For this reason, the elements of shaping are all about to change Those elements that always tends to change included: colors, fabric materials, decorations of Ao Dai Ao dai designs are represented by many artistic methods creating the variety of decorations and imprinting the personal creativity Scientific Supervisor Doctoral Candidate Assoc Prof Dr Đoan Thi Tinh Dr Tran Thuy Binh Nguyen Thi Loan
