This Lesson Covers: 1. Why Add Competing Products? 2. Removing Products 3. Searching for Competing Products 1. Why Add Competing Products? Adding competing products to your list validates the demand—we need to know that there is more than just one product in the BSR range. If there is only one of these products in our BSR range, there might not be enough demand to make this a viable option. Copyright © 2017 Amazing Selling Machine www.getwsodo.com www.getwsodo.com 2. Removing Products Expect to remove products from your list during this process. This is where your patience comes into play. Remember, this is what separates you from people who are going to give up when things become hard. Read the list of reasons to remove a product below, and remove any items from your product opportunity list that match the criteria: One or more of your competing products has a lower BSR number than the recommended range. The competing products are selling at a lower price than the primary product. There are NO competing products. Your primary and competing products all have more than 1,000 reviews. Keep this list in mind as you start searching for competing products by following the instructions below. 3. Searching for Competing Products Keywords and keyword phrases are words and phrases that a customer would likely type into the Amazon search bar in order to find a specific product. So, choose a keyword or keyword phrase that you think is most applicable to your product, in order to start finding your competing products. Then, take the following steps: Copyright © 2017 Amazing Selling Machine www.getwsodo.com www.getwsodo.com Copy the URL of your first product and paste it into your browser to get to the product page. Read the title of the product closely, and look for important keywords. For example, if the title of the product is “Fidget Spinner Toy White Super Fast for Stress Anxiety ADHD,” pull out some keywords like “Fidget,” “Spinner,” “Stress,” “Anxiety,” etc. Click the categories button to the left of your search bar, and select “All Categories” from the drop-down menu, so that you start searching for competing across every category: Paste the keywords that you have chosen into the search bar, then click the magnifying glass icon. Amazon gives you multiple product suggestions. They show up in a drop-down menu as you start entering keywords—ignore those options, and search for the specific keywords that you entered. Note: Amazon might perform your search within a specific category. If this happens, do the following: a Enter your keywords and click the magnifying glass icon to search. b Click “Any Category” in the left sidebar of your results page. Now you are looking at the results for your keyword in all categories. Scroll through the results, and make note of the BSR#, price, and reviews. Delete any items that fall outside of the ASM recommended ranges. Add the URL, BSR#, and reviews for any viable competing product to your product opportunity list, which will start to look like this: Copyright © 2017 Amazing Selling Machine www.getwsodo.com www.getwsodo.com Repeat this process until you have weeded out any non-viable products, and filled in the required information for any viable competing products, until you have a list of a minimum of 15 products. This process will result in re-building your product opportunities list, but again, this saves you a lot of time and expense in the long run—trust the process, it works! Now, finish building your product opportunities list, complete with competing products. When you have finished that, head to the next lesson, where you will narrow down that list, and find your perfect product! Copyright © 2017 Amazing Selling Machine
