INFORMATION OF THE DISSERTATION Thesis’ title: Sustainable Industrial Development in QuangNam Province Specialty: Economic Development Code: 62.31.01.05 PhD candidate: Ngo Anh Tuan Supervisor: Prof Dr.Nguyen Truong Son Dr Nguyen Thi Thu Huong Institution: The University of DaNang MAIN RESULTS OF THE DISSERTATION - The thesis systemises basic theories on industrial production, issues of sustainable development; basing on these, it applies to clarify the concepts and basic contents of Sustainable Industrial Development; develops a system of criteria and indicators for sustainable development of industry focusing on Economy, Society and Environment; identifies basic factors affecting Sustainable Industrial Development; studies and generates experiences and lessons from industrial developed nations - Based on the basic theories on Sustainable Industrial Development, the thesis provides overview and assessment of the factors affecting the process of Sustainable Industrial Development in QuangNam Province; comprehensively analyzes the development of industrial activities in QuangNam in recent years in terms of Economy, Social and Environment; shows the results, challenges and their reasons, and contradictions in Sustainable Industrial Development of QuangNam Province - To overcome existing challenges and to promote sustainable development for industrial activities in QuangNam, the thesis defines viewpoints, orientations and targets for local industrial activities, as well as put forward completed measures to promote Sustainable Industrial Development in the coming time NOVEL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE RESEARCH - The thesis adds a new concept of Sustainable Industrial Development; Contents of Sustainable Industrial Development are built on Economy, Social and Environment; Assessment system includes 14 criteria, 21 indicators basing on Economy, Society and Environment, in which clearly shows requirements, the sustainable threshold values for each specific indicator to ensure an accurate and objective assessment and measurement - To determine challenges of Sustainable Industrial Development of QuangNam Province in recent years, the thesis based on comparing results for each specific indicator, showing high or low levels, meeting or mismeeting requirements shows persuasive and scientific evidences; The contradictions between economic development with social development and environmental protection are not only interpretated but also evidenced by the data and reliable evaluation - For base of solutions, the thesis defines viewpoints, orientations and objectives of Sustainable Industrial Development in QuangNam province by proposing the scenarios (models) for the Sustainable Industrial Development in QuangNam and pointing out the impact of each scenario in each particular stage ABILITY TO APPLY IN PRACTICE - The contents on Sustainable Industrial Development built the basis for continued research, complement and complete in the near future and may consider to be applied to build strategies, plans and evaluation process of Sustainable Industrial Development on a larger scale - The shown results through the evaluation of sustainable development of QuangNam will enable managers to see more accurately about the limitations as well as their reasons so that they are able to offer effective solutions for problems in industrial development of QuangNam - The proposed solutions are the basis for managers to research, reference, and apply, contributing to foster a Sustainable Industrial Development in QuangNam in the coming time FURTHER RESEARCH The thesis inevitably includes certain limitations; besides non-stopping changes and development requires further studies to supplement, update and complete contents of sustainable development as well as Sustainable Industrial Development It is also necessary to clarify the role of policy in industrial development towards sustainability; Contents on Sustainable Industrial Development also needs to be researched to suit with each particular stage; The system of criteria, assessment framework should be updated regularly to ensure the assessment process of Sustainable Industrial Development more accurate, consistent and objective
