A Theory:

*Form:

Should / Shouldn’t + bare infinitive

*Use: to give advice and make recommendation.

II Structure of Conditional Sentence Type 2:

Ex: 1 ( Today is Monday, you must go to school but you don’t want to go to school.)

→ If today were Sunday, we would stay at home.

2 (You want to buy a new car but you don’t have enough money)

→ If I had a lot of money, I would buy a new car

* Form:

Type 2: Past simple Would / could + Bare.inf

* Use: Unreal (Untrue) in the present

* Form:

* Use: Unreal (Untrue) in the past.

A Theory:

1 to + infinitive: Dùng để chỉ mục đích (Phrase of purpose)

to

in order to + V- bare infinitive to express a purpose: để (mà) ……

so as to

E.g: I listen to classical music to feel relaxed.

(I listen to classical music to feel / in order to feel / so as to feel relaxed).

* Hình thức phủ định của cấu trúc này là:

In order not to/ so as not to + V-bare infinitive: để mà không ………

E.g: I got up very early in order not to/ so as not to miss the train

2 Wh-questions: là loại câu hỏi bắt đầu bằng các từ để hỏi (Question words) như: when, where,

who, whose, what, which, what colour, what time, how, how long, how far, how often, how old, how many/ how much, what time, why …

Form:

Question word + auxiliary (do/ does/ did/ can/ should/ have/ has……) + Subject + Ordinary Verb?

Be (am/ is/ are/ was/ were ) + Subject (+….)?

- Whose is this bag?

- What were they doing at this time yesterday?

- Why can’t you come to the meeting?

- How do you go to school everyday?

- How long have you known him?

* Note: Khi “who/ what” dùng làm chủ ngữ thì trật tự câu hỏi như sau

UNIT 13: FILMS AND CINEMA

A Theory:

I “It is/ was not until ………that… ”: Mãi cho đến ……….…

* Structure :

It is/ was not until + time + that + S + V (V2/ Ved)

E.g: It was not until last year this school was built.

It was not until the lights were on that the football match started

II Articles: “a/ an” “the”

1 A/ An::

-“A” , “An” là mạo từ không xác định ( indefinite articles), có nghĩa là “một”

- “A” được dùng trước danh từ số ít đếm được có phụ âm đứng đầu

E.g: a book, a pen

- “An” được dùng trước danh từ số ít đếm được có nguyên âm đứng đầu, h câm

E.g: an eraser, an apple, an university, an hour

- Dùng a/ an trong các trường hợp sau:

+ Trước sự vật, sự việc được kể đến lần đầu tiên

E.g: I live in a small house in Danang

+ Chỉ nghề nghiệp: I’m a student My brother is an engineer

+ Trong các cụm từ/ từ chỉ số lượng: a pair/ a little/ a few, once a week …

+ Dùng trong câu cảm thán: What a beautiful flower!

2 “The”:

- “The” là mạo từ xác định( definite article)

-“ The” có thể đi với cả danh từ đếm được và không đếm được, số ít và số nhiều

- Dùng mạo từ “the” trong các trường hợp sau:

a Sự vật, sự việc kể đến lần thứ hai, thứ ba …

E.g: I live in a house The house is very nice

b Chỉ các yếu tố duy nhất: the sun, the moon, the earth, the sea…

c Đi với tính từ để chỉ nhóm người: the young, the rich ……

d Trước từ chỉ sông, biển, khách sạn, quán bar, tên ban nhạc, báo, tên các dãy núi

E.g: the Nile, the Huong Giang hotel, the Mekong river, the Times, the Alps…

e Trước tên của tập hợp nhiều bang, nhiều nước: the United States, the United Kingdom …

f Chỉ quốc tịch: the Vietnamese, the Chinese…

g Trước một danh từ với điều kiện danh từ này được xác định bằng một cụm từ hoặc mệnh đề E.g: the girl in uniform, the engineer that I met ……

h Trước so sánh nhât, số thứ tự (first, second), nhạc cụ, only…

E.g: the oldest man, the piano, the first student…

3 No articles:

a Trước danh từ đếm được số nhiều, danh từ không đếm được

E.g: Books are good friends Milk is good for you

b Trước tên quốc gia, tên châu lục, tên núi, tên hồ, tên đường

E.g: Europe (Châu Âu), South America (Nam Mỹ), France …

c Trước danh từ trừu tượng, trừ khi danh từ đó chỉ một trường hợp cụ thể riêng biệt

E.g: Oranges are good for health

d Trước tên các bữa ăn, trước tên núi, ngôn ngữ, tạp chí, sân bay, nhà ga

E.g: lunch, English ……

III- Adjectives of attitude ( tính từ chỉ thái độ)

- Cách thành lập: V + ING/ED → Adj

- Dùng Adj có đuôi “ing” khi nhắc đến đặc điểm của một vât tác động đến con người như thế nào; dùng Adj có đuôi “ed” khi nói đên thái độ con người đối với sự vật, sự việc đó như thế nào

B Practice:

1 Form:

a) Positive S + will + V-bare inf

b) Negative

E.g: He won’t do it

He is not going to return early

c) Questions:

E.g: Will you join us?

What are you going to buy Jill for her birthday? – A CD

2 Uses:

* Phân biệt “will” and “be going to”:

a) Chúng ta sử dụng “will”: một quyết định nhất thời (ngay lúc nói) Trước đó, người nói chưa quyết định hay chưa chuẩn bị

Eg: Oh, I’ve left the door open I will go and shut it

* “be going to”: ý định có trước lúc nói, đã có dự tính trước khi nói

E.g: - A: Kate phoned you while you were out

B: OK I’ll call her back right now

- A: Kate phoned you while you were out

B: Yes, I know I am going to call her back

b “Will” dùng để diễn tả sự phỏng đoán, thường dùng sau “I think, I suppose, I’m sure” hoặc với probably

E.g: I think everything will be all right

The weather will probably get colder for a few days

- “be going to”: diễn tả một dự đoán nhưng có cơ sở dựa vào hiện tượng thực tế

E.g: Look at the black clouds It’s going to rain

* Các cách dùng khác của “will”:

- Tự nguyện giúp đỡ ai việc gì

Eg: A: I’m very tired

B: OK I’ll help you with the washing-up

- Đưa ra lời hứa

Eg: Thank you for lending me the money I will pay you back on Friday

- Đưa ra lời yêu cầu

Eg: Will you shut the door, please?

- Đưa ra lời mời

E.g: Will you come to my birthday party next Sunday?
