Descriptions of BSE blank unfolding function for models with thickness by using MidSurface part

Mid surface and Separate surface

1 Start up Dynaform 5.9.2

2 Click FileOpen and select Midsurface.df file (See Figure 1 and Figure 2)

3 Click FileSave As (See Figure 3)

4 Enter Midsurface_(user name)_(date).df as the file name (See Figure 4)

5 Click Save to save the database

6 The data model is shown in Figure 5 The part name is PRODUCT and the

model is a part with thickness The user needs to take out the middle surface

first and then use Mstep function to unfold

1 Click BSE->Preparation menu, the program will pop up the New BSE Project

dialog Click OK to adopt the default parameters (See Figure 6)

2 Click Define Tool button and click Undefined button (See Figure 7 and Figure 8)

3 Select part PRODUCT and click OK button to exit the Select Part window (See

Figure 9)

4 Click Exit button to exit the displayed Define Tool window (See Figure 10)

5 Click OK button to exit the Define Sheet window (See Figure 11)

6 Click Generate middle surface button (the first button in the second row), as

shown in Figure 12

7 The program pops up the Select Surfaces window The program will select all

surfaces in defined tool automatically (See Figure 13)

8 Click OK to calculate the middle surface of part automatically Click Done to exit

the Select Option window (See Figure 14)

9 Click Turn Parts On/Off button The middle surface is automatically named as

MIDSRF01 (See Figure 15)

10 Click to save the database

1 Toggle off the original Product part and keep the middle surface part MIDSRF01 only The program will set MIDSRF1 as the current part automatically

2 Select Mesh tab, and Click Surface Mesh button (See Figure 17)

3 Click Part Mesh in the displayed Surface Mesh window (See Figure 18)

4 The program will select all displayed surfaces in tool automatically Type in the

mesh maximal Size:2 mm

5 Click Apply to mesh

6 Click OK to exit Mesh Quality Check window

7 Click Yes to confirm the generated mesh (See Figure 19)

8 Click Exit to dismiss the Surface Mesh window

1 Toggle off Surface (See Figure 20)

2 Click Boundary Display icon (the third icon in the first row) (See Figure 21)

3 Toggle off Elements and Node

4 Click (free rotation) to rotate the model

5 Click (clear highlight)

6 Click to display the model in isometric view

7 Click Auto Plate Normal icon (the second icon in the first row)

8 Select CURSOR PICK PART

9 Move the cursor to select an element on the model (See Figure 22)

10 Select No to reverse the normal direction (See Figure 23)

11 Click Exit to dismiss the dialog box

IV Check and Repair Mesh

1 Select MSTEP in the Tool Preparation (BSE) window (See Figure 24)

2 Click Material button in the MSTEP window to define material (See Figure 25)

3 Program automatically enter the part Thickness: 3.20 (mm) (See Figure 26), so

we just need to define material

4 Click BLANKMAT button in the displayed Define Sheet window (See Figure 26)

5 Click Material Library in the displayed material window (See Figure 27)

6 Select CQ (36) as the material (See Figure 28)

7 Click OK to exit Material dialog box (See Figure 29)

8 Click OK to exit the Define Sheet dialog box (See figure 30)

9 Click Run to run MSTEP solver

10 Click to open the Display Part dialog box

11 Select MIDSRF01 and click OK to close part MIDSRF01, displaying OUT Line

only

The imported model with thickness can be automatically separated into three

parts : top surface, bottom surface and the surface along part thickness direction

with BSE Preparation Separate surface (See Figure 33) This can be

illustrated by using Midsurface.df as an example

Click Separate surface button and press Displayed Surf to select the entire

model with thickness Click OK to separate the model into three parts:
