Processes of connected speech: In connected speech, sounds may influence each other (assimilation) For instance, nine pigs, spoken quickly, will sound like /m`HloHfy/ instead of /m`Hm oHfy/ Also, sounds may get lost in connected speech (elision) For instance, perhaps is often pronounced /ohzor/ instead of /p?(¢)gzor/ If assimilation or elision is present in a stretch of speech you listen to, it also needs to be transcribed – exactly as the speaker said it Task 15: Listen to me speaking a short text and transcribe As a help, you have the orthographic transcription What is some description become rare they call a hobbit?
