2 Gerund and to + infinitive (revision)



I Aims: Through the lesson, students can

+ Remember how to make WH- questions.

+ Distinguish the use of gerund and to – infinitive

II Language contents:

- Grammar: WH- questions, gerund and to – infinitive.

- Vocabulary:

III Techniques: explaining, comparing.

IV Teaching aids: The blackboard, colour chalks.

V Procedure:

1 Warm-up: (5’)

- T reviews the old lesson - WH- Questions

- Gerund

2 Reviewing:

B Gerund and to – infinitive.

b To-Infinitive (to-V): (7’)

- T explains:

- Ss take notes

c S + V + 0 + to-inf… (8’)

- T explains:

- Ss take notes

d Notes (10’)

- T explains:

- Ss listen and take notes

b To-Infinitive (to-V):

After some verbs such as: want, decide, try, fail, pretend, prove, hope, agree, promise, happen, tend, plan, expect, threaten…

Ex: We all want to become better students.

She decided to live in HCM City.

c S + V + 0 + to-inf….

After some verbs such as: ask, want, get, tell, advise, allow, persuade, order, invite,…

Ex:My parents always want me to be a doctor.

Nga asked Lan to return her book.

Stop + V-ing: dừng hành động đang làm.

Ex: Stop making noise, please!

Stop + to V: dừng lại để làm việc khác.

Ex: She stopped to talk to him.

Try + V-ing: thử làm điều gì

Ex:He tries writing with his left hand.

Try + to V: cố gắng làm việc gì

Ex: We try to get high marks.

Remember +V-ing: nhớ đã làm điều gì

Ex: I remember locking the door before I left.

Remember + to V: nhớ phải làm gì

Ex: I remember to call him.

Forget + V-ing: quên điều gì đã làm

Ex: I forgot meeting her.

Forget + to V: quên làm điều gì

Ex: I forgot to shut the window.

3 Production (15’)

- T asks Ss to do the exercise

given

- Ss work in 10 minutes

- T gives feedback

- T asks Ss to make questions with

the underlined words

- Ss do individually and exchange

their answers with their partners

later

- T corrects the exercise by calling

Ss to write their answers on the

board
