READING ARE YOU SUPERSTITIOUS?

Lesson : Reading

Class : 10A3

Time allowed : 45minutes

I Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 Develop Reading skill for general and specific information

 Present and expand new words

 Know more about some superstitious beliefs of Vietnamese people and the rituals during Tet holiday

II Teaching aids : PowerPoint, Textbook, Laptop, Big Computer Screen, Pieces of Paper, Handouts, Chalk, and Board

III PROCEDURE:

5’ A Warm-up: WHISPER GAME

Instruction: “Now, I would like to divide you into six teams Each line is a team Each team will choose one representative to come here and pick

up the piece of paper containing a comparison sentence Then each representative of each team will return to his or her seat and whisper the message to the next person sitting behind until the last person of team gets the message within 1 minute The team which can repeat the message correctly will be the winner.”

 superstition (n) /ˌsuːpəˈstɪʃn / a belief that certain

events or things will bring good or bad luck

E.g According to superstition, breaking a mirror brings bad luck

 superstitious (adj)

 prestigious (adj) /prɛˈstɪdʒəs/

Inspiring respect and admiration; having high status

 legend (n) /ˈlɛdʒ(ə)nd/ a story from the past that is

believed by many people but cannot be proved to

be true e.g The legend of Thanh Giong

 Instruction: “Now, you will read a text on a topic

5 Homework:

- Ask Ss to list at least four superstitious beliefs of

Vietnamese people

- Ask Ss to learn new words by heart

- Ask Ss to prepare for “Speaking”.
