Đối với thì hiện tại đơn (present simple tense) có 2 đặc điểm: - Trong câu thường không có trạng từ chỉ thời gian. Example: My parents don’t like apples. We are nurses. - Trong câu có các trang từ như: every + N; each + N. Example: Her brothers get up at 5.40 every morning. Sang walks to school each day. 2. Đối với thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (present progressive tense): Trong câu thường có các trạng từ chỉ thời gian như sau: now; at the moment; at present. Example: Nhi is taking care of animals now. What are they doing at the moment? At present Nga’s theater group is rehearsing a play. + Note: Trạng từ chỉ thời gian thường đứng ở đầu câu hoặc cuối câu. *. Các bước thực hiện để viết đúng hình thức của động từ: Bước 1. Cần xác định thì của câu là thì gì? (thì hiện tại đơn, hiện tại tiếp diễn hay thì tương lai đơn). Bước 2. Xác định đúng hình thức câu là gì? (câu khẳng định; phủ định; nghi vấn; “WH”). Bước 3. Xác định chủ từ và động từ cho trong ngoặc . Bước 4. Áp dụng công thức và chia động từ. Example: Luan …………………….(go) to school. Thực hiện bước 1: Vì trong câu không có trạng từ chỉ thời gian nên đây là thì hiện tại đơn. Thực hiện bước 2: Trong câu có chủ từ đứng đầu câu và động từ trong ngoặc không có “not” nên đây là câu khẳng định. Thực hiện bước 3: Chủ từ là “Luan” tên một người là số ít. Động từ cho trong ngoặc là (go) là động từ thường. Thực hiện bước 4: Ta áp dụng công thức câu khẳng định với động từ thường như sau: N(số ít) + V(s,es) …… Vì động từ (go) tận cùng là chữ “O” nên động từ này ta thêm “es”. Vậy câu trên ta viết hoàn chỉnh là: Luan goes to school. Do đó, động từ ta cần điền vào khoảng trống là “goes”. Example: …………… Luan ……………………( go) to school now? Yes, he … Thực hiện bước 1: Vì trong câu có trạng từ chỉ thời gian “now” nên đây là thì hiện tại tiếp diễn. Thực hiện bước 2: Câu có câu trả lời “yes” nên đây là câu nghi vấn. Thực hiện bước 3: Chủ từ là “Luan” tên một người là số ít. Động từ cho trong ngoặc là (go) . Thực hiện bước 4: Ta áp dụng công thức câu nghi vấn của thì hiện tại tiếp diễn như sau: Is + N(số ít) + V –ing ……? Yes, S(số ít) + is. Vậy câu trên ta viết hoàn chỉnh là: Is Luan going to school now? Yes, he is. Do đó, động từ ta cần điền vào khoảng trống là “Is/ going/ is”. 2 * Cách thêm “ing” sau động từ: 1. Thông thường ta chỉ thêm “ing” vào sau động từ: Example: play => playing do => doing visit => visiting 2. Nếu động từ tận cùng là một chữ “E” ta bỏ “E” rồi mới thêm “ing”: Example: rehearse => rehearsing ride => riding take => taking 3. Nếu động từ chỉ có một vần, tận cùng là một phụ âm và trước nó có một nguyên âm thì ta gấp đôi phụ âm cuối rồi mới thêm “ing”. Example: run => running swim => swimming chat => chatting III.
