Have small groups pick a card and read the contextual sentence. Then, have students discuss the content and ideas raised by the sentence. • Have pairs take turns using them as fl ash cards to review vocabulary words from previous weeks up to the current week. • For extra credit or homework, ask students to use Making Word Connections and More Words Connections to: (1) write a defi nition for one or more words, (2) write a paragraph using as many of the words as possible, (3) choose a word and explain the connection, (4) add words to the list. • Use the cards any time for one-on-one assessment of word recognition and pronunciation, as well as vocabulary comprehension. Read or show the defi nition then ask for the word, and vice versa.
