Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the correct information by listening * Teaching aids: Cassette, disk B.Content: I. Pre  listening: 1. Warm  up: Chatting - Ask students some questions about their studying English: What do you need to practice in studying English?  speaking, listening What skill are you good at? What skill are you bad at? - Today we’re going to listen to what Nga said about her studying English. 2. Pre  teach vocabulary:  (n) (Writing/listening/…) skill : kỹ năng (viết/nghe/ ) (translation)  (to) improve : trau dồi, cải thiện (explanation)  (adj) excellent : xuất sắc (explanation)  (adj) terrible : kinh khủng, tồi tệ (antonym) ≠ excellent  (adj) international : quốc tế (example) English is an language  All over the world : trên khắp thế giới (situation) People speak English * Checking: ROR 3. T/F statement prediction: - Set the scene: Nga is studying English in London. She is talking to Kate about her study. - Ask students to read the sentences about Nga’s study (p.35) individually a, Nga’s studying English for her work. b, She learned English at school and university. c, She works for a national bank in Hanoi. d, She needs to improve her writing. e, Her listening is excellent. f, She hopes she can talk to people from all over the world, and understood her favorite English songs. - Have students work in pairs to predict which statement is true/false - Give feedback. II. While- listening: - Let students listen to the tape twice and check their predictions. - Give feedback and correct Key : a, T d, T b, T e, F (excellent  terrible) c, F( a national  an international) f, T *Tape transcript Host: Kate, can I introduce you to nga? She’s studying English here in London. Kate: Hello. Pleased to meet you. Nga: Pleased to meet you, too. Kate: Where are you from, Nga? Nga: I’m from Vietnam. Kate: Why are you studying English here? Nga: I need it for my job Kate: Really? So what do you do? Nga: I work for a bank, an international bank in Hanoi Kate: Oh, I see. Did you learn English at school? Nga: Yes, and at university, too. But I’ve forget or forget Kate: Forgotten Nga: Yes, of course. I’ve forgotten a lot of it. I want to improve my writing skill. You know… sometimes I have to write letters in English. Kate: What’s about listening, Nga? Nga: It’s terrible.This is my biggest problem.People talk very quickly and I can’t understand them. Kate: Do you like studying English? Nga: Oh, yes. Post  listening: Writing - Get students work in pairs writing about Nga and her English (using as much information from the listening dialogue as possible) *Suggested writing: Nga works for an international bank in Hanoi. She needs English for her job, especially writing in English. She learnt English at school and at university. But she has forgotten a lot of it. So she went to England to attend an English course. And now, she is studying with Kate’s family in London to study English. - Give feedback and correct IV.
