Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period : 62 Preparation date :1 /1/2011 Unit : 8 Lesson : Speaking I. Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to make international direct dialing calls. - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to give instructions on how to do sth. II. IV- Teaching aids: - textbook - Handouts - chalk - cards V- Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) VI- Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Games: Miming - Put SS into two groups, CATS and MICE - Assign two mimers forms the two groups - whisper how to do the following things, one at a time to the group representatives. -chalk and board How to repair a flat tyre, how to use a public phone box, how to use a CD player, how to send an email, how to look up a word in a dictionary, how to cook rice, how to use cassette player, how use a digital camera, how make a cup of tea, how to make a paper kite, how to make a call from a cell phone. - the mimers take turns miming the process. - as soon as the miming has been done, the other group has to guess what it is by just calling out the answer. - Put an example in front of the whole class. - allow half a minute for each mime and half a minute for each answer - to make the game more competitive, get the group to count quickly from 1-10 if the other group haven’t found the answer within the allowed time limit Transition: - In today’s speaking section, we’ll learn to Unit 4 : speaking: giving instructions on how to do something give instructions on how to do sth. -Write down on the board : 2. Pre- Speaking (7’) * Teaching useful language: - describing sequencing T says the words : first, second, next , then, after that, …. Finally. Then T gives some samples with the describing words and ask SS to find their meaning. Have SS repeat saying - describing sequencing: first, second, next , then, after that, …. Post- Speaking (15’) 5.Homework(1’) - Put SS into pairs - Ask each to quickly draw 5 blank blow charts like this - within pairs, SS take turns asking and giving instructions on how to make international direct dialing calls to the numbers provided - as SS do the role- playing, they take turns filling the blank flow chart. - assign some pairs to perform their conversation in front of the class. - make corrections if Handouts necessary.
